I have an extremely strained relationship with my father, who is 80, i'm 46, and just about the only thing we can do together is watch sports or movies. I took him to the movie theater to watch this after i had already seen it by myself. I could just tell how special this movie was and i thought my dad would be able to relate to it because of the time period and his love for cars. We talked more about NON sports or movies during the ride home after the movie, then we've probably talked about ANYTHING over the last decade. THIS is why i love movies (and sports)...they have the power to transcend. This movie instantly made my Top 10 of all time! A few recommendations for auto racing films: Grand Prix (1966) - A three-hour epic following a full Formula 1 season starring James Garner. Some of the scenes outside the racing are a bit dull, but the on-track action is incredible. Le Mans (1971) - Stars Steve McQueen and uses footage from the 1970 24h of Le Mans. McQueen was actually an endurace racer himself. Rush (2013) - Tells the story of James Hunt's and Niki Lauda's 1976 F1 championship battle, starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl and directed by Ron Howard.

As another note, this was the age of innovation. For the last twenty years I have raced vintage sportscars. and it fascinates me still the difference between a well engineered car with a poor driver, and a hand-built with a good one. I got protested one year in a Bocar XP-5 for illegal brakes by a Porsche 911rsr driver because I beat him into and out of three consecutive corners on two different laps.... Made him crack a wheel off and stare at the 12" drum brakes.... he became my best friend for the rest of the weekend.

Matt Damon western cowboy movie "All the Pretty Horses". A couple of other race films worth watching, "Rush" from 2013 staring Chris Hemsworth, and "Grand Prix" from 1966 staring James Garner who was also a race owner / driver fielding teams at Lemans, Daytona, and Sebring endurance races as well as an off road race pioneer and inaugural inductee of the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame...

I swear to god, I hate hiccups, but darn that was funny seeing you try to run through a script while hiccuping. 😉😂

Damn are you picking from my personal library? As a sports car racing fan, and one who knows the real story I have my complaints but as a fan of movies and movie making I love this movie, it's great. Ken was the 3rd Ford driver to die in the development process of the GT 40. And yeah in the 60s race cars tended to blow up like that. If you haven't seen Rush yet I think that would be an amazing follow up to this one. Directed by Ron Howard, starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl as James Hunt and Niki lauda telling the story of their rivalry.

This and Rush are the dynamic duo of racing movies. They're an earnest dramatic retelling of historic events that happened in motorsports history. This on Ford's legendary feud with Ferrari and Rush as a sort of biography for Niki Lauda. Niki died in 2019 of old age and he actually saw the movie Rush and was impressed by it. This movie also respects the Ford GT's reputation as one of the most dominant racecars in this time and I'm so glad they highlighted the finesse in its engineering. It deserved to have a win streak for how much of a beast it was.

I saw this movie 3 times in the cinemas just for the sound of those cars and the music!

Racing is a sport that you really need to understand to appreciate. I learned that when I joined the Slinger Speedway safety team last summer

My Dad used to race in the 1960s before I was born (a 1940s car- local speedway, circular track stuff). He flipped over in a crash once. Still belted into the car sitting upside-down, he could smell the gasoline leaking out of the tank. He told me the scariest part was hearing someone yell, "LET'S GET THE TORCHES AND CUT HIM OUT OF THERE!"

This is one movie I wish I could have gotten to see in theaters. As good as the sound is at home, I can only imagine how good it sounded in the theater.

Ken miles was also a ww2 hero. He drove tanks and thats where he got good as a mechanic. There is a story about his tank crew going through a time where they were all alone and has to fend off germans

I remember driving home from the theatre from this feeling like a professional driver but in reality barely going over the speed limit.

Lol wait the orginal title is Ford v Ferrari? In France it's called "Le Mans 66".

Pretty sure that's what it's called in the UK as well

@Stabis Hop It is a dumb title, but most Americans wouldn't know what Le Mans is. All about getting butts in theaters.

I'm not much into cars or racing, but I love this movie. Great reaction as always too

I love the part with Ford crying after driving with Shelby. The movie could have just stopped at making it a funny part to laugh at but instead they use it to develop empathy for him as a character

So, the Coen brothers did a remake of True Grit back in 2010. It indeed has Matt Damon as a cowboy.

Gonna throw in another mention of 2013's "Rush" which is among Ron Howard's best movies. Even if you're not into Formula 1 it's a hell of a movie.

when you hickup it's your diaphragm spasming. like with any muscle you have to stretch it to stop the spasm. inhale as hard as you can to stretch the diaphragm and hold your breath for 12+ seconds. repeat if need be.
