My mom tells me that I'd watched this movie at least 30 times as a kid. Now that I look back at it, I think it's because I related to the main character so much. I had a really tough time learning as a kid, my school's special ed system was pretty stupid too lol, all they'd do is send in a teacher once every three classes, she writes in your journal and tells you to do your work, kids can already be pretty harsh, didn't help that they had a free pass to pick on the one kid who was always checked on by teachers haha- I only started improving after I got one teacher who was extremely patient with me in fifth grade, she held extra classes for me after school, took time to explain every single subject to me, and helped me build a lotta confidence. Then in 6th grade it was back to the old cycle of teachers coming in and going, begging picked on etc. But this time, it was so much easier to deal with academic and social stress, finally in 10th I made pretty much the boldest decision I could've and practically demanded to be let out of the special needs program. In my eyes, for years they did absolutely nothing to help me, so I managed to get out of it right in the middle of tenth grade, near board exams which was a risky move because end of 10th grade have some of the most "Important" exams of high school- welp, they went decent. hjehgffdhjemsdbn anyway long story short- Sometimes all you need is a person who's willing to be patient with you and genuinely help you out, this movie did a great job at portraying that

Yup I can understand you...ur story almost same as mine...I used to hate to go to school because some of my friends make fun of me, teacher's always scolding me if I don't do homework even hv been bullied as well. My confidence become low and feels low-esteemed. On grade 5 I remember I got good class teacher who always try to motivates me and always pushes me to improve myself, slowly I was improving. My parents couldn't understand me tat time why I m being like tat. I failed in 12th board and my dream breaks in thousand pieces, when I was at grade 1,always wanted to automobile engineering but failed in math and physics,I felt tat's it my world came to end. Hi Nathan, this was a lovely review but I’d like to note that in India mental health awareness isn’t really widespread, especially at the time this movie came out. You might be surprised but this movie helped so many people realise their child can have a reading disability and isn’t just purposely being a slacker in their studies. Also I’d recommend Pink, Section 375, Dear Zindagi, Chak De India and Munna Bhai series.

Thanks for the recommendations and also sharing that info. It's great to see that greater awareness came from this film.

i cant believe I cried even tho it was only in parts. This movie has considerably made huge impact on Indian society. Elders have always been brutal towards children and every person I have met has gone through many things this movie has shown. Comparison, yearning for children to exceed thier capabilities and toxicity is deeply assimilated in the roots of Indian families. This movie and 3 idiots has been boon for young children in India. The toxicity is still there, I'm a high school student, my mental health is shitty, but still less shittier than my older sibling and cousins. I'm thankful for being born in the era when this movie was released while I was young. Earlier Television was only source of entertainment there parents would watch movies in the evening and the channels would always be playing these movie, that is why it could make an impact on people I have known. Everytime I watch this movie, I cant help but cry, and the song 'MERI MAA' No matter where I am, istg if it plays, I'm gonna cry my heart out.

So so so greatful for this movie because Indians are so strict about getting high scores in every subject ( especially maths). Sometimes a student's entire value is based on their report card. But things like mental health and reading disorder were never even considered a thing until this movie popularised it.
@Old_Soul_2 жыл бұрын
The one thing that's sad about India is that marks is everything. Your worth is defined by your report card. But here's the catch - the rank holders, class monitors, top ten holders, teacher's pet, last ten holders, students who failed - we are ALL DEALING WITH life's good, bad & the worst. Maybe the levels are different but the struggle is universal. Life is not going to be easy just because you got 1st rank in your class.

Watch queen and zindagi na milegi dobara. Very palatable to the western audience. Queen is about a shy indian conservative girl going on a solo honeymoon trip in paris and Amsterdam and getting culture shocks everywhere. Its funny, uplifting, great film. Zindagi na milegi dobara is about 3 indian friends going on a bachelor road trip in Spain and rediscovering their lives, purposes. Its funny, uplifting, philosophical, bromance eye candy films. Watch these. U won't be dissapointed. Also watch haider Best hamlet modern adaptation. Based during kashmir insurgency in India 1990s.

Zindagi na milegi dobara is a dream to Indian audience but it is a lifestyle in the west. People I'm foreign countries don't enjoy Zindagi na milegi dobara as much as we do. Queen is funny to us when we listen to the middle class old Delhi accent which foreign audience won't get.

And it is their lifestyle thats y its more relatable and easy to swallow. Its a dream for western audiences too. All the adventures which not everybody has done it. @@jog.antani hmm I see, I am still not sure about znmd, I feel foreigners might feel the dialogues too cheesy. Foreigners do way more crazy activities. Road trip with expensive hotels, tomatina festival, love stories, self discovery journey, all the sports which all of them r not available everywhere in the west and very few have done it . Its not just about that. The main plot is all about self discovery, love story, bromance, and understanding life in general. Ppl have loved dil chahta hai too which has cheap road trip. Love that you're doing Indian movies, I like your commentary a lot. Since you've reacted to some of my favorites films already, I would recommend watching Judgmentall Hai Kya, it's a nice dark humor/thriller combo :)

5th or 6th grade is the age when we can understand if a child has dyslexia. Generally we cannot understand if a child is dyslexic or not.And dyslexia is not any brain problem or brain disfunction but it's caused by genes.In survey it's found that if a child has dyslexia but his/her other siblings are intelligent or excellent in studies . And generally they are a lot of introvert type and like spending time alone.Everything here is just a play of genes.

46:44 If you're pretty close to animals specially dogs, you may watch Umberto D. Its 1952 Italian neorealist film. You surely don't need to react to it. Its not long just around 1.38 hr. You can find it on YT as well and watch it in your free time. I really love dogs and this movie made to my favourite 4 on letterboxed💞

Thanks for that recommendation. If I don't do a video on it I'll at least do a review on Letterboxd.

Hey Nathan, if you want to delve into the cornier side of Bollywood you should definately check out Bunty aur Bubbly, it's about 2 people trying to reach their dreams through unconventional ways. A fun movie over all not as thought provoking as the ones you've seen.

Thanks for the recommendation! I enjoy a corny film here and there.
