The Blade franchise does not get the credit it truly deserves. They weren't huge blockbusters like the Spider-Man films were, but they truly paved the way. They were good and full of action. Black Panther gets all the credit but Blade did everything that movie did first.

Blade as a character should also get credit for being such a funny character at times without being a clown. Like this is a masterclass on how to make the strong cool hero be funny without diminishing his coolness factor or sacrificing his character, they should look into it more.

Bringing on Guillermo del Toro to direct the sequel was the best decision that could've made in regards to Blade II. His style of Gothic horror mixed in with the sleek and dark visual flare of the Blade universe makes for a very special comic book film, and Wesley Snipes seems like he was having a real blast playing this character.

@@JamesVSCinema This had Del Toro all over it...he uses Ron Perlman in damn near everything he does (Hellboy, Pacific Rim, Chronos), and the actor playing Nomak was also the main villain of Hellboy 2. For some of us of the slightly nerdier persuasion, the style coordinator for this film was also the creator of the Vampire: the Masquerade role-playing game of the '90s-early 2000s (which just had a new video game release about two months ago).

I think Wesley Snipes is a hugely underrated actor. This man played Blade and did really difficult martial arts choreography. "It's great that it starts out on a fight scene"... The Blade trilogy... across the entire series, there is a fight scene every 10-15 minutes of screen time.. This truly doesn't get the recognition. Deacon Frost was just kind of a power hungry punk in the first movie, whereas Novak in this film was simultaneously very relatable, given his story, and also the vampire equivalent of the terminator. Blade actually uses multiple martial art styles. Yes, one of Guillermo first films, that's why it feels different. I don't consider this a Marvel movie, kind of is its own thing. People have forgotten that the 90's animated Spider-Man series was essentially it's own cinematic universe for television. Punisher, Blade, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Captain America show up. Spider-Man sauces the X-Men and the Fantastic Four when they both had their own shows just before their appearances bridging separate shows together. It has a Spidey Multiverse. And a Stan Lee cameo.

The UK trash newspapers loves to build heroes up and then shit on them. The boys took a hammering and both moved to the US to escape. I think this is Luke's best roll, tied with his Prince Nuada roll in Hellboy II. Good to see him "up there" after what the UK did to him and his bro. Much love.

When Del Toro talks about Nomak, he describes him like a fallen prince, a man who lost his kingdom, and that the people he kills are drug dealers and people like those blood bank vampires- people Nomak feels are taking advantage of his kingdom. And he found a way to make little pairs and couples out of the Blood Pact, miniature friendships, to make the group more visually relatable and give them personal relationships and a personality so that they had emotional value across the movie. All these little things, the devil in the details, is why Del Toro is one of the absolute best- maybe the best director of our time. And damn, they gave Blade a love interest, and like a real Samurai/warrior tragedy, she dies at the end. Frickin epic.

I haven't seen this movie in years and totally forgot that Norman Reedus was in it. Really great cast in this one, lots of great actors. I think the special effects hold up better than the first one, too. The Reapers are freaky as hell.

Snipes is a martial artist before anything else. He's been training consistently since he was 12 in several disciplines, and has a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan karate and a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido

I wasn't able to see Blade 1 in theaters, But when Blade 2 came out. I had to see it in the big screen. Me and my cousins went on opening weekend. We had a blast, Guillermo brought the horror element to the franchise. which was a nice touch.

I hope someone informed you that the actor playing Whistler, Kris Kristofferson, was a country music singer. Played in the 2nd remake of “A Star is Born” as well. The one prior to Brad Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Honestly one of my favorite comicbook films of all time! And its funny that you spoke about the villain in this because he is one of the reasons I like this one better than the first. I mean I still liked the first one but this one and the Reapers were just so much more intimidating as villains. The digital AND practical effects were amazing as well, even for this time. And then to top it all off, the action was even better than it was in the first one. A+ movie for me!

Fun fact - the actor Luke Goss who plays Novak in this film, and was also in Hellboy 2, was in a boy band with his twin brother Matt in the late 1980's! Check out the song "When Will I Be Famous" by Bros 😁

Blade II rocks! My favorite of the franchise! Wesley Snipes has like a 9th degree belt or something major like that.. The director had to tell him to slow down so they could catch his movements on film.. Blade is FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Love seeing Danny John Jules in this one. He played Cat in Red Dwarf and has the "Cat" teeth in this one.

Guillermo Del Toro has a lot of sympathy for his monsters, so Nomak gets an understandable story; his sister gets a whole arc, all the Blood Pack get little moments.

Del Torro also use the creatures from this movie in his TV series "The Strain",which plays out like a super long theater film chopped up into 46 episodes. The entire TV series was a masterpiece on par with the likes of GOT, The Sopranos ,OZ and The Wire.

Del Toro Knowledge of Manga, Anime and Asian Cinema is the key. He is the Ultimate Fan. He truly loves this CULTURE, he understands it. Orgullo Mexicano pero aun mejor: Geek, Nerd, Otaku Grand Master. Guillermo is a Legend. Btw: the cinematographer is Gabriel Beristain, one of the best of our country (Mexico), he's not as famous as the Mexican Holy Trinity of Cinematography (Chivo, Navarro & Prieto) but he's a Master too.
