I have such a soft spot in this movie for a Multitude of Reasons. 1. Guierrmo De Toro and Comic Books go together like Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Blade 2 and Hellboy 1/2 are honestly beautifully made films and if anything I think they came out too soon for the Comic Book Film Audience to appreciate them until it was too late. 2. Wesley Snipes is Blade, and his one liners are so fucking good. That ending is 1000 percent perfect "Oh,you didn't think I just forgot about ya did you?" 3. Ron Perlman and Del Toro go together like Cheesecake and Strawberries. This duo are perfect In every movie they've done together, especially the Hellboy Movies. If the Hellboy movies came out 5 years ago they would've been considered acclaimed Masterpieces of the Genre. 4. I won't say it's better, but the Soundtrack and Visual Style of the films equals the first film which is a borderline Aesthetic Masterpiece. 5. The Vampires Mythology with the Ruling Family is cool, the Design of the Reapers mouth is amazing ,and finally Nomak as the Tragic Villain of the story is so Underrated and another Great Casting decision with Luke Goss in this and in Hellboy 2 as Prince Nuada. With Nomak the tragedy comes from the Hunger inflicted upon him by his father, while Prince Nuada carried the Refusal of watching his People go extinct in their Waning days and decided to Fight humanities Pollution and Destruction of the Forests and Earth itself.

Jen’s question at 35:50 about Holden seeing ‘The Strain’ first, changing how he felt about ‘Blade II’, since the creatures are similar, goes both ways. Since ‘Bade II’ was released first and ‘The Strain’ second, if Holden had watched chronologically, or Jen for that matter, how would she or he have felt watching ‘The Strain’ since it seems to be pretty important to her. After all, del Toro took a LOT of the creature designs from here for use on ‘The Strain’. And from what I’ve researched, he may be the only person (not in an executive role anyway) to have anything to do with both properties. So I’d conclude that there’s a very good chance he had a hand in the vampires look and reused it for ‘The Strain’ BECAUSE he liked it so much. But these are all guesses. If anyone knows for certain, I’d love a reply, Thanks!!

I love the first Blade movie because it has a straightforward and pretty seemless storyline that connects completely with the sound design and basically everything visual. Blade 2 decided to up the ante on the choreography and visuals. While the story is pretty damn good, the production didn't play it out enough. It's a film worth watching over and over again. There are so many iconic scenes like the sewer scene where Blade just chucks a grenade into the water and they always give me chills 😊

Guillermo del Toro directed this film and is also the creator of the strain. He has been known to reuse/build off of his ideas from previous projects in new projects. A lot of the creature designs and lore from this movie was built on in The Strain. Other examples of him doing this is the troll market in Hellboy 2 is one of the main settings in his animated series Troll Hunters and his depiction of Death (also from Hellboy 2) was similar to the Death from his recent Pinocchio film.

The Reapers are Guillermo del Toro’s personal vision of the vampire. He brought them to this property because at the time he hadn’t done anything major where he had such control over what he could bring to the screen and thought it was the only time he might be able to bring his vision to life in such a major manner. Of course then he went on to co-write the Strain trilogy in which he was able to let loose and that was adopted into the show we know and love. (Though I will say the vampires on the show are still not quite the same as the ones in the book, they were toned down a bit.)

Whenever I think of Ron Pearlman I think of HellBoy or the Beauty and the Beast TV series. The fight scene after Blade comes out of the blood fountain / bath, features "Name of the Game" by Crystal Method, which was also the theme song used in Splinter Cell. The music video Cystal Method did for Name of the Game was kind of cool in the early 2000s skater / break dancer vibe. I think Blade III is worth a watch even though it was pretty heavily panned by the critics and to some extent the audience but it's worth a watch to wrap up the trilogy, and a great introduction to Ryan Reynolds and a not quite super hero'esque character.

Yeah, it's flawed, but Guillermo del Toro's influence as the director is strong (hence all the similarities with "The Strain")... which at the very least makes for some interesting visuals. Snipes again manages to pull off a performance I just can't imagine anyone else could've done. Like the first, it's a fun ride that hugs that fine line between ABSURD and AWESOME. EDIT: For what it's worth, "Blade II" was years before "The Strain," either the book series or the TV series, so that wasn't an issue when the movie first aired. GdT recycled some stuff with "The Strain," which I really, really enjoyed (although I thought the ending was slightly lacking). That's the sort of detail that comes up again and again with some us... older... watchers, where we have more experience with the origins of things that catch on in pop culture and say "yeah, whatever, seen it done before and done better"... or "cool, I love the homage/shoutout to [fill in the blank]"... which sometimes puts as at odds with younger or less experienced viewers. That's one reason I say everyone should start out watching black and white episodes of "The Outer Limits" and "The Twilight Zone" so they can see that ninety percent of modern, sci-fi storylines are just rehashed or mix-n-match versions of stories that were told decades ago.

Love Kris Kristofferson as Whistler him and Wesley are a great pairing . Wesley Snipes was perfect casting as Blade and he is a fantastic martial artist I have always wondered how many of his stunts he did himself in fact after the success of the first Blade Marvel comics rebooted Blade making him look a lot more like Wesley and with the armour etc a big departure from the look of Blade in the 1970s with his big afro big coat with stakes etc , Mahershala Ali has got a lot to live up to in the new Blade. The rest of the new cast are great ( Donnie Yen ,Ron Perlman , Danny Jon Jules , Tony Curran ) and have their chance to shine . The Reapers are a truly gross design and do bear a resemblance to the Strigoi as you noted , all in all a great sequel unfortunately Blade 3 is a major let down easily the worst of the three .

So many tie-ins with other movies too. Nomac (the main villain) is also the same person who is the main villain in Hellboy 2 which also stars Ron Pearlman. The first of the Blood Pack to die in the club is Marcus (the first vampire) from the Underworld series.

What i like about blade 2, is the action and fight scenes feel like there's weight, speed and power that should be there since these are Vampires and not regular run of the mill humans.

Luke Goss totally surprised me with his performance in Blade II. Also, being from the UK, it was great to see Danny John Joules (Cat in Red Dwarf) having a cameo as Assad.

I remember seeing Blade 2 in the cinema with a couple of mates and we were blown away by it. Just some little Trivia. Michael Jackson was supposed to cameo when Nyssa and Blade are looking for Nomak when one opens a door but the cameo was cut. Verlaine is the sister of Traci Lords character from the beginning of the first film, whom Blade killed. Lighthammer used be on the Australian Obstacle course ,TV Series Gladiators in the 90s. Chupa is Matt Schulze from Transporter and Fast and Furious and Fast 5. Thomas Krentchmann, the vampire overload, played Von Strucker in Avengers: Age of Ulton. The Boat Captain in King Kong and has appeared in many films, ranging from Resident Evil Series to Hitman: Agent 47. Danny John Jules (Asad) is a comedy legend in England after regular role as one of the main leads in TV Series, Red Dwarf. And Tony Curran, Priest, played Vampire Elder, Marcus in Underworld Evolution a few years later. He also played Skinner the Invisible thief, in LXG. He also had a very quick cameo as Thor's uncle leading the attack against the Dark Elves in Thor: Dark World. And Guillermo Del Toro enjoyed working with Luke Goss as Nomak, so much, six years later, he gave him the role of Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

There's a reason there are so many things here that seem like The Strain. Guillermo Del Toro directed and came up with the creature designs for this movie to test out his vision for the strigoi. Then years later, he went on to further utilize the imagery and elements from this movie in his own story. So, the reapers in this movie were the prototypes for the strigoi in The Strain.

If I'm not mistaken I think Guillermo also did the strain too. I always felt like it reminded me of blade II even before finding that out

From the Brits, you recognised Tony Curran. The male "ninja" was Danny John-Jules, who is probably best known for playing Cat in Red Dwarf. Under a lot of makeup, the bad guy Nomak was played by Luke Goss from 80s boy band Bros. He was also the prince in another Guillermo del Toro movie, Hellboy 2.

i do think that the original idea for the second blade movie was to incorporate Morbius and possibly add Whistler into that story arc, but then there were talks to using Morbius for Spiderman so it never went through

13:34 - 13:39 Guillermo Del Toro directed this and was behind The Strain which probably explains the the design. The Strigoi had really long tongues with singers on the end. The Reapers mouths split open. Similar but different. Guillermo does great creature effects.

The director of Blade 2 also co-created The Strain, so the similarities make a lot of sense.

I bought the first movie on VHS and the third movie on DVD, just because I missed it in theaters... And when I got home from the store to watch it, the extras disc was in there, but the middle insert with the movie disc wasn't,,, only DVD I ever had to go back to the store and get another one cause the movie disc wasn't there, and I did open the replacement before leaving to make sure it didn't happen again

The action was great and I like intro of the anti-Blade team as well as the alternate breed of vampire. The first still the best. I feel for you when it coming to watching the third film. Whistler is a rock star! Del Toro work the screen play to Blade II and years later co-wrote the Strain to get his vampire in novel and later live action.
