I think the final scene between Jesse and Gale lingers the perfect amount. Jesse hesitates on shooting just long enough that you realize it's killing his soul to do this, Gale getting to beg for his life to remind you that despite everything this is a PERSON not just a pawn in Walt and Gus' game, the close ups of their faces, the sounds of them breathing. It just gut punches the audience after the hype of Walter's "your boss is gonna need me" moment. And it is right that they do that!
@marvelsandals4228 Жыл бұрын
I also like how Gale starts by begging and trying to persuade him, but as the scene goes on, he gets quieter, and kind of just...accepts it, like he's a smart guy, he can discern what's going on. This man is here, at his house, for a reason, if he hasn't said a word or asked for money, then...he's not here for money, he's here to kill him. He's come this far to track you down, break in, and aim at you with a gun. This isn't a situation you can really talk your way out of. "You don't have to do this." That's true, but he knows that. They both know it. Yet, as Walt said "it's either us or him." Jesse chooses us.

I like that you pointed out how Gus uses his "person suit" to seem less threatening in order to maneuver through difficult situations and hide in plain sight, and then the end of the episode essentially shows Walter using his own person suit with Mike, playing it off like he's just a simpering, desperate, terrified man so he can find just enough of an opening to get the upper hand and go full Heisenberg. I also like that they explore that through Mike's eyes specifically, because we know that he's seen it all AND he is super familiar with Gus pulling the exact same stuff, so it's a great subtextual indication that Walter is essentially figuring out how to play Gus' game better than Gus can.

Like, he had no idea Gale would have loud music on and not hear the phone call, lol.

I think Walt had to make it clear what happened, to ensure that Mike didn't kill him then and there out of anger (or fear that Walt was too chaotic to permit him to live any longer). He needed Mike to understand that Gale was really going to die, this wasn't a bluff, so Mike would have no choice but to hold off on killing Walt, since the whole meth operation depends on having a chemist.

You wanna know what's really crazy? As good as season 3 was, the next two seasons are even better. Not only that, but depending on who you ask, many would say that the next show is even better. So yeah, you are still in for a wild and high quality ride. And oh man am I happy that this isn't one of those cases where they say that the show started out strong, but fell off towards the end. Nope, this entire franchise has it's seasons range between a strong 8/10 and an amazing 10/10. And as for this episode, was it one hell of a finale or what? I loved (or rather hated) that final shot of Jesse. It was a ''us or him'' situation, but Jesse was almost sadder than Gale about what had to happen. Also, Walt came in all heroic last ep, saving Jesses life, and in this ep he uses that into guilt tripping Jesse to consider the option to kill Gale (Though Victor coming after Jesse did speed up the thinking process a lot). Gale was always an issue for Walt, even if it wasn't about him or Jesse working with him. I think deep down Walt always knew that Jesse can't replace him, but even at a cost of a few % purity drop, Gale is always a replacement option. I think even if the whole issue with the two drug dealers had not happened, Gale would still have been a thorn in Walt's side.
