What I really like about this episode is how they introduced Michael for the first time. Up until now, every time Michael has been mentioned it has been a mostly negative experience. Michael who had issues, Michael who dealt in drugs, Michael who was very disorganized with his paperwork, and Michael who offed himself. It was like this shadow looming over everyone. Almost like he is a burden. When we finally get introduced to him though, it is through this warm memory. We see how charismatic and charming he is. Also how cooking was a bonding experience with everyone. So now we see what the shadow is really about. It's the hole he left in everyone's heart because despite all his flaws, he was a light in everyone's life. A light gone too soon.

Re: your comment about Carmy and Sugar's interactions/vibe around their brothers death -- at least in my experience, it is extremely relatable! The sadness and emotional toll is often coldly punctuated by paperwork and mundane reality.

Haha, I actually gave James a nod when he first started watching this series. He had mentioned how much he enjoyed Richie's(Ebon) relationship with Frank Castle(Bernthal). I was like so you like those 2 characters from The Punisher, that's interesting and I lol. So awesome to see your reaction when you saw him in this scene as I thought you might. 👉🤛 Seasons about to ramp up bro, if even possible.

The conversation between Carmy and Sugar in the office made me think about my own brothers and my relationship with them, honestly the best part of the show for me is the focus on their relationship and how much they love each other

Ceres is a Roman goddess. I think she's the goddess of agriculture, grain and fertility. It is also a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt of our solar system (and plays a role in the show The Expanse)

It is also a late night bar at the Chicago Board of Trade, which is where the story at the start from Michael took place. Hence the name of the episode.

Per your conversation about entertainment value, this show has a lot of problems with genre discourse. It's classified as a comedy, and there's a lot of debate about whether this should be considered a drama instead. It's tricky because this show sits in the middle. It's hilarious and also super intense and very emotional. Wonder where you sit on that debate

@brettcloud8550 I agree! Plus, I think this show needs to be done with 20 minute episodes (with one important exception). 20 minutes is perfect to tell this story. And for some reason, only comedies can have 20 minute episodes? I don't know. I view this as a hangout dramady. But the conversation is still an interesting one to have.

@brettcloud8550 I find labels useful insomuch as they help identify which other works each piece is in conversation with/indebted to and help to connect it with an audience. Like, if you walked into The Bear thinking it was a sitcom, there would be whiplash. Knowing it's more slice of life helps with expectations.

@@magnuswiesener9588 that's a big claim but I respect it. I will say I enjoy the lightheartedness of the slew of shows from the USA channel-Suits, Burn Notice, Psych, White Collar, Royal Pains, Monk. I think if I could only have 2 channels I would be happy with Fx and USA.
