Recently I was filming a short with my brother with a scene featuring a warm cup of coffee, and we wanted it to be steaming but couldn't get the steam to show up on camera. Since I knew that it would be very easy to throw a basic steam asset over the footage, I assured him with honest confidence that I could fix it with post, and his response was "Okay. You're a wizard." Now "I can fix this in post. I'm a wizard." has become my automatic response to issues like this.

In my university we had an image film project. I had the role as a cameraman and the person in the postproduction department said we don't need to display all graphics on the tablet screens - "we'll do ist in post"... I insisted we take the extra time but no. It came down to me fixing every screen because the postproduction people weren't able to do it

@GeffenAvraham9 жыл бұрын
+pzawsome Well, the closest thing is the helicopter model video. X-Wings are easier because they have no moving parts. Now, the way star wars did it was motion control and optical printers, but these days we have something called after effects. It really would be nice to see how to make more complex things like, for example, the dogfight you mentioned. It would basically be done in front of a wraparound greenscreen, and moving around the camera. Then in after effects it could be made to look like they were moving. It would work best with one of those slider things.

Ryan, I 100% agree with your choice for a remake - The original 1932 The Mummy has an amazing tone - the scene when Karloff first awakens has an extraordinary slow build - the primitive sound and the grainy black and white (was it a bad print I watched? maybe ) have an eerie quality which I would love to see recreated with today's technology.

I feel as though the phrase "Let's fix it in post," is the death sentence to a scene. In my experience, it never turns out well and usually, it was a problem caused by poor scheduling/time management.
@filmnewsreport32319 жыл бұрын
Or the fact that some people make filmmakers have very little time to shoot a scene.
@QuestionmarkX39 жыл бұрын
+Film News Report Although that is true, you never have enough to time to film or edit. So to me, that is never an excuse. Especially, since good planning ahead of time will allow you to work around the lack of time. Side note: You have an interesting channel in the works. The name is eyecatching and your videos are informative. I suggest going out and getting a blue yeti microphone. Although it is a USB microphone, it is about $100 and you can do a lot with it from a production aspect when you pair with a program like Audacity. Other than that, when you chroma key your shots for green screen make sure that you watch the clip and really fine tune the edges of your image.

I bought Edifier $30 cellphone earplugs and put it below my shirt, they give a very decent LAV mic quality for their price, even when plugged into $200 phones. Standart phone earplugs have shitty mics because factories have to save money on everything. Get a dedicated phone (even and old android phone you don't use anymore), put it on airplane mode, LAV yourself with plugs made for good sound and BOOM you have good enough audio quality.

Uncompressed to DNxHD, back out to uncompressed is ideal but not always practical. But yes, even with let's say Canon footage....transcode to DNxHD if, for nothing else, to be able to edit smoothly. Sure, the file size might be larger, more data and all that, but much much easier to edit as it doesnt have to decode on the fly and "stutter" like Ryan said.

A feature film is actually quite different from a short film!!! In a short film you have much less time to get the story across, but with a full length film the challenge is in the writing. Creating a great 120page Screenplay is much more difficult than a 10 page screenplay. So the leap to a full length is much more difficult than you may think.
