This episode scared the hell out of me when I saw it in syndication as a little kid. My mother kept telling me it was funny, but I didn't think there was anything funny about that "ghost" appearing in mirrors and the like.

As a kid I thought the walnut episode was freaky because it was so much like the horror and sci-fi of the same era and I'd seen way too many of those. This one I could kinda tell they were being set up.

@@garyfrancis6193 You really know how to suck the fun out of something, don't you. Yes, I'm aware that "favourite" is a superlative and does not need a modifier, but in a casual remark, one is permitted such little lapses. Used this way, it constitutes more hyperbole than factual statement. How sad, Gary, to spend your time correcting the grammar of strangers on the internet, particularly in areas where it is wholly irrelevant. Now, would you like to get into it over whether my first sentence is an actual question, therefore requiring a question mark, or if it is rhetorical and may use a period?

"It May Look Like a Walnut" was my mom's favorite episode. And that's probably one of the most well remembered. But "The Ghost of A. Chantz" has always been my favorite by a mile. I've always loved the "spooky haunted house" comedy episodes of TV shows. And this is one of the best ever done. They don't make Television like this anymore. 🤧

I was just the wrong age for that kind of thing. These and "Uhne Utz" gave me nightmares when I was a kid. And don't get me started on The Twilight Zone. The problem was that I wasn't old enough yet to understand that these things weren't real, just old enough to know that they _weren't right._ So when Sally was looking straight at me with that expression, I practically dove under the rug.

This is one of my fave eps. It's a good mystery for first timers. I watched this show new, as a kid. What was never explained was what was the ghostly face Laura saw in the mirror, and what horror did Rose Marie see while outside the bedroom she shared with Laura. I always wondered why Dick van Dyke tripped over the ottoman at the start of the eps.Didnt he see that big thing and also know it was there? How can Rob and Laura hog pillows and blankets when they each have a twin bed?

One of my faves. Unfortunately we will never know Rosemarie’s comments on it. During the film archives interview about the show she mentioned it twice as if she was eager to tell some story about it. The stupid interviewer never caught that and just keep ignorantly asking questions over her and she never got a chance to say what she wanted to about this episode. She passed on in 2017 so we will never know.

Definitely in my top five all time episodes. But there's one little glitch. When Laura tells Buddy "to be careful because Rob kicks the covers off" and Rob tells Sally "if she steals a pillow just take it back", I've never understood how they supposedly knew this since the two of them slept in separate twin beds for the entire series. So no one would have been kicking covers off of anyone and no one would've been stealing pillows.
