Not sure how coincidental this was, but the guy playing Parsons (Dick Schall) was married to Valerie Harper, who of course played Rhoda. Schall was on a couple of episodes of MTM, too.

Good eye. I recognized his voice. Richard Schaal was married to Valerie Harper during the MTM show, and the Rhoda show. They eventually divorced, but I enjoyed seeing them interact on these shows.

Bill Idelson, who plays Herman is also pretty good writer. While watching a lot of these old shows like M*A*S*H or Andy Griffith his name will pop up as written by.

Who could blame Sally when Herman always puts his mother first and allows her to control his entire life and everything. It's one thing to care for your mom and listen to her opinion but Herman's mom is all in his personal space and dating life, coddling him and everything. It's amazing the guy could even get a girl. Or breathe on his own without her trying to put an oxygen mask on him. Reminds me of Howard's mom on the Andy Griffith show. Way too overprotective, manipulative and controlling. I wonder if guys and their mothers exist like that in real life? That's a pretty sad existence I think.

@@garyfrancis6193 They were talking about Howard, Mayberry's Hall of Records guy (I think), the "momma's boy" on that show, not Opie. Howard's parent was all in their face just like Herman's of this show, hence the parallel and Esmeralda's comment.

@@stephenstumbke1721 Yeah! Leave it to the good old classic sitcom to normalize toxic relationships. I just watched that episode where a guy is sexually harassing Laura I'm front of Rob and then they end up all "Aw, shucks, I just feel sorry for this guy!". An amusing show but a lot of it doesn't age well.

No wonder there is such violence. The horrific commercials advertising violent pretend beings infesting my screen is partially guilty for all our crime. Sadly, it's embedded in the s0-called brains of America. So sad. Dick Van Dyke is the era I grew up. Sadly, respectful people don't exist anymore!
