I pack mules in the Rockies. The coat is named after us packers. That collar is a life saver sitting in the saddle in a snow storm. I have the red plaid one, wish I had the green one. Ive had mine for 20 years and I will pass it off to my son. The quality is that good!

the shearling collar is obviously awesome, but did you easily make the decision to get the Packer as opposed to just the regular Double Mackinaw coat (without the collar). This is the dilemma that I am in now. Plan on heading into the Great Jones shop this week to hopefully try them both on. Thinking that I LOVE the shearling collar but it might be overkill sometimes for regular usage. Would love some feedback - thanks for the vid, enjoy your new coat !

Thanks man! It took me 3 Christmases to make the decision to treat myself with this coat. I bought a vintage Mackinaw coat before, but ever since I felt that shearling collar in person, I knew I had to get it one day. Either way they are both one hell of a coat. Good luck with your decision!

I have a vintage one in solid red and one in their classic green wool. The green is a 40 and the red is a 42. These are spectacular coats. I cannot believe they have removed this piece from the catalogue. The limited edition cotton lined version recently released is a downgrade from what you have there. That is a beautiful coat, and it is actually very functional workwear. Adding a permanent cotton liner makes it less functional as workwear.

Great jacket. Just tried on my friend's exact same jacket the other day. Love it. Unfortunately, filson discontinued the charcoal model. Got a big kick out of your reaction to the jacket, because that's exactly how I react to such clothing purchases. Love the mackinaw wool, I have a couple of filson jackets, field pants and western vest, all in mackinaw wool, all in the beautiful charcoal color.

Nice video. I just got their double mackinaw in forest green. I like the way the packer looks. But I’m using mine for in the woods, and I like to blend in. Not too easy to do with that bright collar. :)

Good choice going with the black. The Plaid looks a bit generic and the other colors, inappropriate. This makes the shearling really pop.

I realize that you've only had the coat a couple of weeks now, but can you post another video showing a full body shot of you wearing the coat - collar up and down. That shearling collar is crazy and based on comments - people either love it or hate it - or more accurately love the warmth, but not the look. I'm not so sure "I can rock it" like you! I realize that the collar is huge, but perhaps a full view of the coat balances it out. I really want to buy this coat, but with shipping, duty, taxes to Canada - its a $750 coat - so I want to be sure! Any help your vid could provide would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Cor

Hello! I will try to make a follow-up video after I wear it for awhile. Honestly, now that it hit below freezing temperatures in New York, I can say that the shearling collar is the way to go. I don't wear a scarf anymore and this thing really cuts all air from getting near your neck. It is so functional!! I'm sure the cold here is nothing compared to Canada, so I am guessing that it will be well worth the investment.
