I'm so very sorry to hear that. I almost lost my wife two years ago. It's been a long road but without saying anything else I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about. She's still with me and I just can't imagine the pain of losing her. God bless you my brother and I will remember you in my prayers.

Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know it's the end of the world? 'Cause you don't love me any more Why do the birds go on singing? Why do the stars glow above? Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when I lost your love I wake-up in the morning, and I wonder Why everything's the same as it was I can't understand, no, I can't understand How life goes on the way it does Why does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry? Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said, "Good-bye" Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm (Why do these eyes of mine cry?) There will never be another Skeeter Davis in our time. She was simple, unique and so good in the art. Her songs were and still golden till now, so it remains.

My sister who is a MD PHD, found Skeeter Davis's name in a medical book that stated she had gone through the most intensive breast cancer surgery and pain that had been recorded. She is more than a singer, she is a producer, writer, plays a number of instruments and was an executive at a record company. She is a female version of Buddy Holley (correct way).

I first heard this song in 1971 on a monoaureal transistor radio. I was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the house of the girl I liked, she had just come from the United States to settle in my neighborhood. We were both teenagers. She spoke English, I didn't. The device received a signal from a station in the United States - I'm from Monterrey. This song captivated me. I didn't understand the lyrics very well but I loved the sensitivity with which Skeeter Davis sings and since then it has been one of my favorites. Now I speak English. I understand the lyrics, it's quite a romantic song. Whenever I listen to it I go back to that moment.

My aunt came from Poland after WWII ended to try and find her loved one. She was engaged before the war, but her man went to the front line to fight the Nazis. He never came back to her. She thought he was dead, but rumors came to her saying that her fiancé was seen in NY. So she flew there, and eventually she found him with another woman and a child. She loved him so much, and she was broken when she saw that her man she was in love and engaged, just did this so quietly, and he didn’t try to come back to her. She didn’t get married. And she died alone. Rest In Peace Aunt Olga.
