I first heard this song in 1971 on a monoaureal transistor radio. I was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the house of the girl I liked, she had just come from the United States to settle in my neighborhood. We were both teenagers. She spoke English, I didn't. The device received a signal from a station in the United States - I'm from Monterrey. This song captivated me. I didn't understand the lyrics very well but I loved the sensitivity with which Skeeter Davis sings and since then it has been one of my favorites. Now I speak English. I understand the lyrics, it's quite a romantic song. Whenever I listen to it I go back to that moment.

My favorite version, and Skeeter's plain old lovable! She's not a virtuosos, but she has an earnestness in her singing that sells the song to me every time.

I don't think I could ever sing this song without getting all choked up. I wouldn't even try.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Here in 2023, this is still a great song, full of heart, talent & soul! It may have come out in about 1962, but it still has plenty of meaning. I’m glad to have found it here on this web. Blessings to all! 🥰😎✌️

We're actually looking at a piece of history. That part that messes with me the most is that these people are probably long gone. They're just dancing

Looks like about 1986, not 63..... I was almost old even by then, and I’m still here......

I have always loved this song, but it took on a different meaning on December 9, 2010 when my husband passed away. We had been married for 42 years and my world seemed to stop on that day. With God's help, I found you have to go on with living. I still tear up when this song is played.

One of the most distinctive voices in music. I have always enjoyed Skeeter singing, and this is a most lovely song...thrilling her fans for decades. Thanks for posting!

My aunt came from Poland after WWII ended to try and find her loved one. She was engaged before the war, but her man went to the front line to fight the Nazis. He never came back to her. She thought he was dead, but rumors came to her saying that her fiancé was seen in NY. So she flew there, and eventually she found him with another woman and a child. She loved him so much, and she was broken when she saw that her man she was in love and engaged, just did this so quietly, and he didn’t try to come back to her. She didn’t get married. And she died alone. Rest In Peace Aunt Olga.

Ok smutna historia. Polacy są idealistami i emocjonalni. Ale na Boga ten narzeczony nie walczył z żadnymi nazistami tylko z niemcami.!!! Nazywajmy rzeczy po imieniu!!!Pozdrawiam

Sorry to knock the vibe, but hands down, this is my fav fallout 4 song. I'd sit in the bushes and wait for it to play to sack a building. Good memories, damn good memories
