I live in a tropical climate country where the temperatures range between 24-33 degrees celsius. Fimi mini 3 has done a very good job and no issues with the camera focus

Yes the Fimi Mini 3 definitely has a focus issue with the cold temperature. With the last firmware update (the 1013B camera firmware) things improved a little bit. , but the problem still remains. I live in the centre of Italy and here we still have a temperature of +12 degrees celcius at noon so, no issues for us. I tried at +8 degrees and no issues at all. I think that's the minimum limit nowadays thanks to the update of the camera firmware. Before it was even worse but, I repeat, no problems at this latitude.

Aside from the cold temp flying and with 2 batteries I'd say it needs to be priced about $100.00 less than advertised on Amazon. If they fixed the video issue and added another battery I'd be happy with the $449.99 price. Great job on the review, all the other features and handling were impressive. I have this drone with the same problems. I just purchased a Specta Air, with No Geo Fencing. This is one of the best drones I have ever flown. No issues flying in temps below 14 degrees F.

That is how to do a drone review. Thank you. I have a Fimi X8 Mini V2. The control response is a couple of milliseconds too slow for precision flying, but it's a great learner drone. I've used it to explore some cave entrances high up on a mountain. I hope Fimi fixes the camera focus problem with the Mini 3, because I was impressed with the low-light performance that you demonstrated. They make very good and inexpensive drones, but I'm with you. Bad focus is a deal breaker.

Hello there, I've had a FimiMini3 for a month and love it but keep experiencing a nagging problem. After making sure the drone and controller are both fully charged and phusically connected up, I keep getting a "Disconnected" error between controller and the drone. I try to use the "short press followed by two second press" pattern on the controller after powering ON the drone.. but it wont connect, so I get impatient and try again and again using progressively longer press intervals.. I've tried reconnecting the iPhone to Controller cable and shuttong down the drone and powering it back Up yet it wont give me the "Beep" that occurs when it actually will connect.. Generally it takes about 15 annouing minutes of fiddling around retrying everytrhing before I get that beep and then in 5 seconds or so, Navi screen pops up with a video of the camera view awaiting Satellite connect and it will start and run fine till I'm done. Then I have a similar srttuggle shutting the Controller OFF. I have to fiddle around for a LONG time to get it to go OFF. Its as if it is going into a re-BIND mode or something. Do you know of a simple and reliable way to Power ON and Shut down the controller ? I am usig the latest Fimi Navi Software and drone software and I even got a replacement drone from Amazon and its MUCH better but its still a struggle .. What is the precise pattern of Button presses that you use? Are you having this issue? Thanks in Advance.. JimS

Doesn't seem to be that critical of a process for both for me. In general my sequence is start the remote first with a quick press (0.25 sec) followed immediately by a long press (5 seconds) then the same for the drone (short then long press). It makes some sort of a beep when the device is powered on, don't release the button before you hear the beep or it isn't turned on yet. Then I open the app on my device, then connect the communication cable between the remote and the device. The device beeps when the cable is plugged in. Then the app connects to the drone in a few seconds. It takes a while (maybe 2 minutes) sometimes to find satellites and when it does it will display ok to fly or something similar in the upper left of the app. It's not an exact science but it shouldn't have to be that precise to work. Hope this helps.

FIMI support sent me a video with a start up sequence that was VERY quick.. one short tap followed almost immediately for what appeared to me to be on;y a 1 second longer-tap and it immediately Beeped once and connected .. I tried it, and it failed the 1st two times but worked the third so I think I was pressing far too long on the second press.. More info on this as i get a chance to reconfirm the ON sequence is reliable.. I will try to follow your complete steps ane let you know Thanks Again. jiimS

I tried again and am now sure my 1st short -press was way too long, and my interval between the short and long press was also too long. And finally the Long Press I was using which was progressively longer each time it failed, that was way too long too.. I never tried then loading the APP and connecting the cable last, but I may try that too Anyway I'm confident I can get it all turned ON and OFF without all the ridiculous hassle now.. I reviewed the Fimi Mini 3 last summer and early fall, before sending it back, and I was very impressed with the video quality on this budget drone. But I never flew it in colder temps and had no idea it had focusing issue in the colder conditions. This is really a big issue for many flyers, I hope they get this resolved in the next generational. I've purchased the first fimi mini x8 an the v2. The v 2 starting flying apart in flite. It was to late to warrant return. Th e 2nd mini v2. Flipped over an burned the motor left rear up not any luck. Sd card videos were good. What I got while flying. So all said an done. Dji mini4pro is now in possession. An loving it. In my search to find my perfect drone. I needed to find waypoints with POI. Thought I had found it with the Fimi mini 3, but two reviewers (you) have found that videos and photos are out of focus in cold weather, and horizons are not level. This only occurs in cold weather. What are the chances that these types of errors can be solved with firmware updates, and do you think Fimi will actually do it?

IMO, the horizon tilt can probably be fixed in firmware and the the focus is likely dissimilar materials and thermal expansion so not fixable in firmware. So far I've not heard Fimi is even admitting this is an issue and that is not a good sign for this being addressed as acknowledgement of a problem is a first step to fixing it.

I returned mine too for the same reason. It's winter here in Virginia, so it ain't warm. Am now using a Potensic Atom and it is much better at low temperatures. Could be better when it gets warm?

The gimbal does slightly better in warmer temps as the mounts soften a bit, bit in general a quality drone won't degrade too much until you get below zero-ish. At least that's been my experience... 😎

A dip in cold weather performance is not a deal breaker for me but that does seem prety strange. Hopefully it can get fixed with an update as the camera itself should not have those issues. Currently deciding on this drone or the Fimi X8 Pro....I need to determine if going over the 250g limit is worth the hassle.

It may be my particular Fimi mini medel. But, my fimi Mini doesn't have the best range. I flew mine in a cold environment, around 30° to 40° weather, up in the Poconos mountain. I only managed to get around 2300/2400 feet distance. I'll have to check my videos again to see if I got some of that blurriness you got with yours. But, I didn't notice any particular blurriness at first. I can see why that would be a deal breaker for people. The range issues are definitely a deal breaker for me. But, I'm keeping my unit. I still need to do some further testing to see if I get better results as far as range, in a different environment. The place I was flying had a lot of woods.

That is weird because when I was watching the video I thought it was kind of not very focused. And your tests showed that indeed it was better at a higher temperature which like you noted is not a desirable feature. Also as you noted in the video your orange jacket I assume definitely looked very red. But the overall performance was amazing. Hopefully they get the camera fixed and maybe I will find myself buying another drone.

I had one. It worked great. One day I had a battery issue and it fell from 350 feet on a near full charge. Totally distroyed. The other batteries I had were also bad. I want to say this happen 10-12 months ago.

Have you noticed that radar on lower left screen works fine only on iphone? On android app is impossible to know if you are pointing the drone with your controller. I already reported the problem few time ago and got no solution, maybe if they receive more reports...

My question is, what I noticed (not just in your video, but others too): when recording, and the drone moving just a bit faster (so not being stationary), the whole footage starts to blur a bit. Is that the same weather issue? Because I have seen footage with warm weather, and still, it was blurry as it moved (artificial motion blur feeling. Like some AI software was trying to smooth it out??). What causes that?

Possibly some Ai effect or maybe the gimbal adjusting, but could be actual motion blur too. Frame rate at 30 fps isn't very high so it wouldn't take much motion to create motion blur in the video. 🤙

Sorry, I did not test it that fast... ✈ My guess is that it might be able to do it if it were high enough and straight enough, but with the visual follow it might struggle to keep a lock at the higher speed, but that's just an educated guess. As an X8 Pro/TX10A owner I can tell you that FIMI routinely uses substandard parts, has subpar quality control and FIMI will never admit a mistake or flaw in the equipment or the actions FIMI takes or doesn't take when an owner of one of their drones has a problem. FIMI does not have any sort of dedicated return service. You must navigate the complicated shipping of a hazmat item to China which has many pitfalls. For example, should you insure the shipment for the replacement value of the drone, Chinese customs will add a tariff fee of 20-50%. To avoid additional tariff fee, you can only declare the package value at $40 or less. Secondly, you must agree to abide by whatever decision FIMI makes regarding to the cause of the issue that you need fixed. If they decide the problem was caused during shipping or by the user, you will be presented with an additional amount of money you must pay to have the drone repaired. Then you will have to pay FIMI to ship it back to you. Or you can have them return the drone without repair, but still have to pay return shipping. FIMI lied to me multiple times and I will absolutely NEVER buy another FIMI or Xiaomi product again.

No geofencing in the US that I've found and I did try 1 controlled airspace and it did not prompt or anything. You have the option of not entering a login and password, I never did. It says you won't be able to sync your data to the cloud until you log in, but I consider this a bonus not a negative.

Right on point. Great features and capability for this size and package but that video and photo quality is less than the DJI Mini 1. Unacceptable in 2025 or even 2020 at this price point. Well done and thank you for the honest review! I hope Fimi can correct this shortcoming. With Autel and DJI looking at a probable ban at some point in the future, we will need alternatives if this one qualifies.

I read a lot of negativity about Fimi. Like it's a 50/50 chance you'll actually get a good unit. That aftersales is practically non existant. And that after 4/5 flights problems start emerging. I have a little bit of experience with the first X8 SE and I really liked that one. In hand it really felt like a quality product. I'm really on the fence, deciding if I should go with the DJI mini 4K or this Fimi mini 3. DJI is a "trustworthy" name brand which is locally available, so a bit less worries about aftersales. But i find the lack of features like waypoints and active tracking pretty disappointing. But hearing all this negativity makes me a little weary to purchase the Fimi from China. Could you give your two cents on this?

At some level it's a personal choice, but it also depends what your budget and your needs really are. My advice is if you can't live without waypoints and active track and you are only considering the DJI and the Fimi, add a bit to your budget and get a DJI mini 3 pro or mini 4 pro rather than the Fimi mini 3. DJI does do a really good job so you won't regret stepping up a little. If your budget isn't flexible you may want to consider the Potensic Atom 3 axis, kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYKXYWywZaqprJY it is a great little flier with good functions and good support. I hear they just started a care program for the Atom too so they are going in the right direction. Hope this helps!

Thats a pretty big con . Borderline deal breaker . Might be ok for the casual user , but for anyone looking to make content i would say its a deal breaker , after all , the whole point of the drone is to take video and if the video isnt up to par with its competitors, then it doesnt really matter how well the other features preform . If its just a software issue , it could possibly be fixed via update , but if its a lens or sensor issue , i suspect that its just something everyone will have to live with as it wont likely get fixed until a mini 4 comes out and no tellin what else will be out by then , very disappointing. With all of the drones that have been recently released , im hoping they will drop a mini 4 before next xmas . Just sayin
