FIMI X8 SE Drone - Gimbal Glitch & Jello Problems Solution

Straight out of the box from new I had problems with the video wobbling about (jello or jelly like) as if it was filmed through the worst heat haze possible. I also had a really bad problem with the camera gimbal suddenly pitching down briefly before springing back up. I was so disappointed with the drone I was considering sending it back, but thankfully I set it up on my kitchen table where I noticed the gimbal glitching down at regular intervals. I timed the glitches and realised that they were regular at a steady 6 second interval. This happens to be one tenth of a minute and got me thinking that it was interference coming from timed transmissions from radio controllers (central heating programmer, time clocks etc) and also from the Wi-Fi and 4G internet connections on my phone. I figured that these were interfering with the radio signals sent from the RC to the drone. In the 'Advanced Settings' in the app I adjusted the gimbal gain down to 1% and switched off my Wi-Fi and 4G connections on my phone. Testing on the table afterwards the results looked good with no glitching. The test flight the next day lasted 25 minutes and the camera gimbal never glitched once and there was no jelly wobbling on the images. Fingers crossed the problem is now solved.
A smart watch is also a source of radio transmissions and at close proximity to the RC controller while you're flying, so switch them off or at least put them into Flight/Airplane Mode while you're flying.
UPDATE: 2020
After initially improving, the problem started to gradually come back some months later and by May 220 the problem was really bad and video footage became unusable. Nothing I did in the settings would improve it. I also noticed that now the actual camera was physically vibrating (see • FIMI X8 SE 2019 - Gimb... ). I could do no more so reluctantly contacted FIMI support. After sending the black box files to them they asked me to return the drone to them for warranty repair. This I did and about a month later it was thankfully returned and the problems had been fixed. So I think now that there is a problem with the drone's software which can only be fixed by FIMI. All the tweeking with the settings only appears to be a temporary fix.

I am now since 2 Weeks here at Central Luzon Philippines and the Temperature here is of course above 25 degrees Celsius. Since i am here i didn't see any glitch or wobbleing at the Downstream to the Remot or at the recorded Video. So at least in my Case the Problem depends complete to the Temperature. i have done a few Flights already at above 35 Degrees C and there is also no Problem. The only Thing i noticed is that the Batteries are draining faster at higher Temperatures, even if they just stored in the Case and unused after 4 Days i lost 12 % of the Capacity. The Batteries have 49 Cycles done till now. Merry Christmas to everyone and soon a happy new Year 2020.

Pero tengo que decir que no se ha ido al 100%. Pero en general ha ayudado enormemente, por lo que son posibles grabaciones de video mucho mejores. Las ondas pueden reaparecer en ciertas situaciones, pero solo muy levemente. Pero no tan masivo como antes. Tengo que ser feliz con eso. El Fimi volaba 1A hasta que fue atacado por una golondrina y cayó desde una altura de unos 50 m. ¡Tuve que cambiar 2 brazos! ¡Ahora vuelve a volar! Una tarea difícil para un profano, ¡pero solucionable! ¡Si tiene a alguien que pueda soldar muy bien y esté familiarizado con la ingeniería eléctrica!

Thanks for subscribing George. Since I made the video I have noticed in recent footage a tiny amount of jello creeping back in again. Appears to only be in the first initial seconds of flight before settling down. I have since been exploring other options to prevent this happening and may now have a proper solution that works. I need to carry out a few flights to confirm this but have not been able to fly here in England due to weeks of strong winds. I will report back here, hopefully with a successful solution as soon as I can 🤞🙏

Hello. Mine has the same problem. but flying with 1% gain the image is not so cool. wouldn't there be another solution? is it a software error? Or would I have to change anything?

MUNDO DOS CURIOSOS if you have already switched off the WiFi on all your devices when flying then try adjusting the gain gradually up to around 25% and see what works best. You probably won’t eliminate it completely but it should reduce it significantly. You can then just edit out the bad bits. That’s what I do.

In my Case it depends at the outside Temperature. At lower Teperatures i have that Problems too. As long the Teperature is above 12 degrees C its gone, at least at the Moment. At my last flight Temp. was at 3 degrees C and the Problem is back. You can see it in almost all of my Videos somwhere. FIMI Service requested the Blackbox Files and i sent it to them. Waiting for a Answer now. By the way my Phone is always in Flight mode, but here it didn't change the behavior of the Gimbal.

Have you tried flying with all of your mobile devices that you are carrying with you turned to 'airplane mode' and with Wi-Fi and 3G, 4G etc switched off? Are you wearing a 'smartwatch' ? If so switch that off too. They all emit radio transmissions that can interfere.

@@Graham.Hanson Yes, i tried that. Even if i going to a place i know there is no radiation from transmission towers around its the same. Its just related to the Temperature in my Case. I found so many others with the same Problem at lower Temperatures now. But anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

@@thomasgerstner2087 That's really weird. It was only about 4 or 5 degrees C when I test flew it and obviously the cold didn't affect mine. When it happens to you has your drone been outside in the cold for a long period of time. I'm just wondering, and it's just a guess here, if these gimbals are fluid damped and the cold has made the fluid a lot more viscous.

@@Graham.Hanson Yes i guessed that too, that the Gimbal damped by fluid but in another Video from a Guy in Russia i seen its just a Ballbearing. I tried it already to preheat the Drone before i go outside and the result is that the Problem takes 2 or 4 Minutes to appear again as the Drone gets colder over time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp3VdIl9i6pogZY here the Gimbal Jumping up and down left and right.

Yeah, and and all the other 99 percents in between. Tried everything possible. It can’t be fixed without sending it back to FIMI unfortunately. It was perfect after they sorted it out. Just wish I knew what they did to sort it.

NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAMERA!!!!!!!!! Use a landing pad and leg extensions help too. During startup the camera gimbal performs a SELF TEST. IF THE CAMERA TOUCHES ANYTHING...GRASS THE TEST TEST FAILS !!!!!!
