Great comparison Andy. The X8 does stack up to the Mavic 1 very well. The video quality was very comparable. The Mavic seemed a little more locked in on the GPS. But the X8 is a good option at a lower price. Cheers.

To me the cheap Xiaomi is the winner, I can live without collision avoidance and have a longer flight time and better video ... first I thought the X8's camera is poor but when you switched to F-LOG mode this thing came alive at 16:16, stronger color saturation, crisper image without trading in noise, but still making things look natural - making the Mavic look faded - that was a big surprise. I would also be interested in the radio range to know when you send it on a GPS mission - I guess it can do that? This is a bargain and perfect for taking on a hike - while my fixed wing drones are simply to bulky for longer hikes, though they are outstanding for longer trips through beautiful landscapes.

Bizarre! When they took off and went into a hover, the Mavic was "rock solid" yet it was miles off the landing pad. Then at around the 19 minute mark, the Mavic was again described as "rock solid" yet it was clearly moving all over the place when viewed from the Fimi - so eith the Mavic was moving or the Fimi was moving at about 100mph to achieve the same results relative to the background. Wonder if you'l do a repeat test with updated Fimi firmware, which has improved quite a few things. But a good comparison, nevertheless.

Yes it is difficult for the smaller companies to keep up with DJI as far as electronic features are concerned but I am glad that so many companies have come to beat them at the price without the camera and gimbal being bad. I can't help but mention Parrot Anafi. Why don't you make a test of the little French beauty now that you have one in the collection ?

My personal preference is the Mavic Pro from an image and flight perspective. However, throw the price into the mix and then the X8 SE is a bargain. I own a Mavic Air which also does 100Mbps data. I have to say the difference between the 60 of the Mavic Pro and the 100 of the X8 SE don't really compare if the camera quality is not identical. Would I spend £400 on an X8 SE and take a chance? Absolutely! 4K 100Mbps camera of reasonable quality for £400 - yes, yes and yes. This is what the Hubsan Zino SHOULD have been, but failed!! Another great video AndyRC!

Thanks for an excellent comparison. I am looking at both of these but the price difference in New Zealand is considerable, almost twice the price for the Mavic. You are helping me decide if the features of the Mavic justify the difference. I really like some of the new releases at CES this year (Evo 2, V copter falcon, Power egg X ,Skydio 2)but who knows when they will be available here in NZ, so maybe buy the cheaper but still very good fimi and get one of the 2020 releases later. Thank you for juggling five different recordings to make this nice review for us. As I've sadly lost my Mi Drone 4k I am considering buying one of these and right now I lean towards the Fimi even if the Mavic's colors look more natural and the precision landing works just perfect. But I can easily live with a little color grading in post and picking the Fimi up a few steps away. I use RTH just to get the drone closer so I can land it myself anyway.

Fimi told me they came out with firmware today that would fix the hs and vs swapping and other bugs, will be interesting to know how it performs now. Please do more videos with this new firmware once you get it because right now the x8 is the new kid on the block that everyone wants to know about. Great vid!

X8 SE lack of range, it can do only about 2km in stock configuration. While Mi drone 4K can do 4km in stock configuration. Despite that, X8 SE in overall better in other aspects.

Hi! I checked almost all FIMI video footage on youtube now. (My FIMI will be shipped on arod 24th according to BG staff.) What I see is that distant objects are so out of focus and blurred. Finally found a UK review of the Fimi! Everything so far is from our cousin's across the pond. Got a Tello for Christmas as a 'starter' drone and already fallen in love with the drone world; as well as my kids enjoying 'chasing it'. Video is ok in good light, however you can see the quality of both of these drones.. I'm not sure if you did expand in a previous...but the Fimi has ability to shoot flat log along with RAW photos. I'm guessing the Mavic can too... But that is impressive for those editing and looking for more control over content. If you ever want to shoot the FIMI my way to a good home, I'll happily accept :P

the fimi x8 se just got a firmware update for the wifi transmission and camera. now the blue tint is gone and you have less interference. Once the fimi gets a few more updates to hardware and the software bugs are sorted then it will shit all over the mavic pro and in Australia the fimi is $1000 cheaper than the mavic pro

The mavic air has half the flight time of the xiaomi but is smaller and has the DJI warranty so it all depends what is more important for you. Paying more and swapping batteries more with better warranty service or flight time and cheaper

I don't know if it's just the way youtube nerfs the video's but EVERY comparison I see of these two, I think oh the X8 SE has some nice camera footage, and then I see the Mavic's footage and immediately say wow, yeah that's definitely better. Sharper, clearer, more detailed, and more natural with its colors. This is coming from a guy who just bought an X8 SE (waiting for it to arrive, purchased from banggood). You can't beat the bang for the buck with the X8 SE, but IMO, from all I've seen, the Mavic is clearly the better drone, just not for the money.

Love your videos Bud and I won’t say for a minute that your biased towards Xiaomi drones but I would say your talking sense and ethical decisions. I had a phantom 3 pro and I crashed landed and ruined the gimbal, if it was Xiaomi 4K, I I had to do was replace the gimbal and I would had been back in business. So sense there in price 👍🏻

Brought the Fimi, doing my pfc...? license next week. lots to read that I don't understand, as fimi has no "atti" mode, will be taking a self designed 3d printed 4" freestyler in case they really need to know I can fly with no crutches. It has no GPS (obviously) and I'm hoping if required the ground up design/build will answer any questions about aerodynamics as it goes like shit of a shovel ;-) wish me luck, I'm about to join the dark side.
