this one can go 'forever' because this is a chemical round or high explosive while other rounds like APFSDS and only go a certain distance before the kinetic energy runs out and it becomes harmless

For the hinges. I usually a paper clip. They run around 2mm diameter. So shove it into the hole and clip it off like you did. Definitely the most stable linkage I have ever made.

It doesn't move fast enough/have enough intertia/momentum to throw all of the fins out without requiring a rubber band? You may be able to avoid filing away so much of the fins and baffle strikes entirely? What kind of results were there without the rubber band? You could get the fins to deploy with a centrifugal force if you can get the shell to spin.

Add an airfoil to those fins. So the lift generated from each would cause the projectile to spin

wouldn't a slight blade angle offset, give the same spin effect if that's what you wanted ? I'm thinking you'd want the fins as thin (therefore as light) as possible.
@discombubulate2256
@discombubulate2256 10 ай бұрын
@@andrewgray1965 yup. having said that the projectile needs to reach a velocity where the oncoming air will begin to impart enough force on the blades to produce spin. so for such a low velocity round over a rather short distance that's going to be quite the angle. if it had the capability to fly say 100 meters with in a second then even a slight angle would do the job it. would however be easier to spin the projectile within the barrel in this case.
@Bue2
@Bue2 9 ай бұрын
@@comradekirov7788 The projectile is fin stabilized, not spin stabilized. If the projectile is spinning, the fins would slow the rotation.

I think I would have used craft knife snap blades for the fins instead of 3-d printing them. You'd have to grind the tip to get the same "no catch" effect in the bore.
