If you've been following this B9 Robot from Lost In Space build you know it started as a box of space junk. Two and a half years later I can finally say he's ready to go home to his owner. In this vid I'll show how he turned out and some of what he can do. Enjoy.

@DavidSchulpius
@DavidSchulpius 2 жыл бұрын
Hi EDP, Thanks for the kind words. All the voice clips I have installed in this robot are preformed by the original voice actor that did the robot's voice. I have permission to use them by the owner. The "connect to network" voice you hear is a built in recording that is hard scripted into the EZB that does that connection. There is no way I know of to replace it. Even if I could there are no voice clips or fragments in the Robot's voice that stat that connection. I hope this makes sense.

Fantastic Dave. So many questions though, but I’ll save them till I get to those parts of my build. Curious though, why are you not using the crown spinner?
@DavidSchulpius
@DavidSchulpius 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Herb. The answer to why I;m not spinning the crown is that I was limited in what I could do based on how the robot was built when I received it. To get more action like the crown spinning. bubble moving up and down or the finger lights moving I would have had to scrap the head section that was sent with the robot and rebuilt a new one. This would have added a lot of time to the build and lots more money charged to the owner. Thanks for your interest. I hope your B9 is doing well!

What a wonderful job you've done on our beloved B9!!! As this vid is now over 2 years old, I wonder, have you, or will you be building an API to Chat GPT (3 or 4)?? It would be so amazing if he could have more verbal autonomy. Have you improved his triggering to "Robot"? Not that I have a robot (i wish), but we do use Google Assistant and even now, in 2024, it can still be a pain in the butt when saying, "Hey google" or "Ok google". Many times, we have to say it twice. Also familiar is while he usually recognizes words, it can sometimes "hear" it wrong or just get it wrong. I guess A.I. still has a long way to go. Also, I'm wondering, at some point (if not already done) are you considering adding avoidance sensors 360 degrees so that he could walk down that hall or around other areas and not bump into things, without remote intervention? You are so lucky to have the space and ability to build this. Seriously, just a beautiful job!
@DavidSchulpius
@DavidSchulpius 6 ай бұрын
Wow, thanks for the kind words. Actually this is not my robot. I built it for a friend that lives up in NY. I do however have one like this that I did build for myself. Yo may be able to see it in the background of this vid. You have good questions. I have not look closely at the new AI tech so I'm not sure how I would implement into my robot at this time. However I have thought a lot about learning soon to see how I could achieve this. As far as the voice recognition, it's only as good as the mic that is picking up the words and how the words are spoke. I find with a good headset and me speaking clearly I can get close to 99% accuracy. I haven't thought about adding sensors to avoid things. I guess I thought who ever was running the RC controller that moves him around would do that job. LOL. My personal B9 robot I mentioned above does not have motors to move him. He just stands there and looks very cool.

"Impressive! MOST impressive!" to quote another famous franchise. Yet, I gotta, ask, what happened with the range of arm movement? I recall your earlier experiments which demonstrated a a full retracting limb system could have the range of upward and downward movement nearly equal to actor Bob May within the suit! Specifically, this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5K8iJ-Af5t2pZo&t Before seeing that video, I used to claim that was a sure way to determine if it was a performer inside a costume as opposed to animatronic mechanism because the latter could not swing around the arms like that in addition to fully pulling them inward. Yet you demonstrated it COULD be done with robotics! I hate to say it, but in a (very minor) way, this is almost a step backwards. What happened?
