Nice work David. The first video of yours I have seen. Just wondering how many commands the B9 recognizes, and if you thought or have a command to suspend voice input for a period of time. Like "Bubble-headed Booby" for instance.

Thanks for watching my video. I Appreciate your kind words. I don't believe there is a limit to the amount of commands I can have stored for him to listen. I currently have several dozen and keep adding as I think of something. I actually do have a command in there for him to stop listening. I just didn't use it in this video. It does come in handy if I can remember to use it. Lol

Amazing build. I loved watching Lost in Space as a kid way back when. It would be interesting to update B9's voice recognition using the latest AI technology so that you wouldn't have to be so precise in your verbal commands. Maybe even incorporate sensors such as vision recognition, distance/object recognition so that he can move around a room on his own without bumping into things, etc.
@DavidSchulpius

Great thinking. All those things are on my "someday" list. I've tried a few of them. The only problem is that the sensors needed to do a lot of that stuff are hard to hide so they don't interfere with the original "look" of the robot. Thanks for the interest.

That is beautiful. A pc inside the robot and the smart power strip, wow. I am programming the arduino development boards for my B9. I currently have 3 of them just in the upper sections, from the collar and above. One controls all the brain and finger lights. One controls the radar motion, and the last one(so far, I need several more) is a master that will handle the PS3 controller for the entire robot. This master controller will pass command to the other sub system, to allow control of all motion, audio, and lighting throughout the entire B9. I am also keeping in mind the “power pack” pull and deactivation. Thank you for the inspiration to do these type of function for B9. Keep up the good work.

Your setup sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing and your kind words. Are you on our B9 Robot Builders Facebook group? If not please join and share. I decided to go with Synthiam's ARC because I didn't want to learn a completed computer language like what is used in programing Arduino. My respect to yo brother for going that route. (BTW, since then I've learned a bunch of Javascript and converted all my scripts in ARC over. Much better).

I want to make sure I can do these things first. I am learning a lot of this arduino programming as I go along. Also realizing that it will take a lot of arduino’s to accomplish this setup. The nice thing about it is one arduino per subsystem.

Ironically, you may be able to speed up it's shutdown by turning off "Fast Startup" in Windows. That saves the contents of RAM to your storage device for faster boot. If you're using an SSD {and you should be -- even a SATA one if your SBC can't do NVME) it's really not worth it. Thanks for your videos, you're building the B9 I dreamed of back in the '60s!
@DavidSchulpius

Wow, great info. Thanks! This little mini PC does have a 500GB SSD harddrive. I'll look at the fast startup option. But are you saying that if I have a SSD it's not worth turning that option off? I understand wanting this robot for so long. Like you having one that looked and acted like the one from Lost In Space was a childhood dream. So I built one when I was able and found a way.
@madbradfreeman
@madbradfreeman Ай бұрын
@@DavidSchulpius No, it's that it doesn't help much if you have speedy storage. You probably won't notice the faster startup, but you will notice it's not having to write 16GB to disk during shutdown!

Turns out I need to have Hibernation enabled and I disabled that feature when I first installed this Mini PC. I actually really slimed down Win 10 system and got rid of everything I didn't need. Lots of stuff. I even tried to disable Windows auto update but for some reason it keeps reenabling it's self. Ugh.

I think that you have done a magnificent job on our sophisticated friend "Robot B9", from the Robinson Family's ill-fated Space excursion thanks to the infamous acts committed by Dr. Zachary Smith. I lost my mechanical friend due to the antics of the unwelcome intruder who invaded my home. The perpetrator or perpetrators, broke into my home lab, & destroyed my Robot B9 working replica. I was corresponding with members such as "Dewey F. Howard" among others of the B9'ers Club. Obtained my robot's bubble headset from the late great "The Robot Man": Fred Barton. When we started back in the late 1980s, we had to figure out how to get much that did not exist to get things the way we wanted them. Much technical innovation of brilliant minds, has come into play in the way of getting the robot to come closer to what "Lost in Space" featured as but a bit of a glimpse of the future so many years ago. I congratulate you on your outstanding accomplishment Mr. Shopeous. It is an honor to learn of what you have achieved. I wish you all the best in the years ahead. I am planning to build my next B9 of the class M3 when I can acquire the necessary funds to do so. Wish me success In my endeavor to do this. God's speed to you & your sir. The Robot was the most fun project I ever worked on. I know that you must feel the same as I do about the Mechanical Marvel of the Robinson expedition. Take care for now. Sincerely, Professor Howard Daniel Rollins III, Inventor & Scientist.

You could have used multiple pulleys and made a circuitous route anywhere you needed it to be to be out of the way, like around the inside of the body shell, basically as long as you wanted the "string" to be. And "super-glued" stand out locations on the inside of the body where you needed to attach bolts and such. (probably using a very strong two-part mixed glue that bonds well to fiberglass or whatever) Then no outside showing bolt heads or rivets.

Nice job Dave, B9 is looking good. The Sabertooth with the kangaroo are tough items to tame. There are so many little tricks and features to be aware of. I put them away for a while to work with steppers which are much more predictable. Still plan on using kangaroo for many items and have them working well now but there definitely is a learning curve to it.
