@Jonah Massey there was a lot of expectations on this trip. Adam was "supposed" to be able to climb this route. And as they wanted to do a full process film with a lot of insight on his feeling, it makes sense to explain what happens. And sadly some people are dumb enough to compare Adam with other climber instead of enjoying the content provided. People are so keen to criticize him because he often speaks about bad conditions but they forget that it's one of the hardest route in the world, that each climber is different and finally that condition do matter in climbing. And most of those people would not even lift a leg in a route like this one.

I agree. It would be hard to be so invested in something and not be able to do it, plus the added pressure from all of the people wanting you to do it.

@@bastouflette2552 You do know you dont have to be a chef to know if a dish tastes bad or not right? Using the excuse "Well you cant do it" or "Why dont you try" doesnt hold up in any context of a debate at all. It never has and never will. People incapable of performing an action can still analyze said action and critique it, even to a degree acceptable enough to see mistakes and errors. Using your logic, why would anyone consider coaching adam ondre in the first place then? None of the people he works with have even a 10th of his talent for actual climbing and wouldnt be able to ascend the route either in the prime of their lives, so therefore that means they cant possible help him right? While sends on hard routes are great, it is almost more inspiring to see a series of videos that show incredible effort despite frustration and without a send at the end.
@baschu1014 жыл бұрын
Yeh it's a totally different experience to see the whole frustrating process, and not just the final send. It's also quite humbling that Adam shows us this up front, makes him vulnerable and human. And as with any vulnerability some people see it as weakness and excuses. Hat off to Adam for having the courage to put himself out there!
@NickRoman4 жыл бұрын
This seems pretty typical for climbing videos though. Maybe not. But if you only show the ascension and don't ever make it to that, then you don't have a video. This is how climbing hard routes is done: go for weeks and months to work on it and maybe you get there. He did make it another move at the end though. So, they showed progress.
@andnowwecry92254 жыл бұрын
@@NickRoman it’s certainly true that hard routes involve challenges and struggles. I think it’s more unusual to dedicate the same amount of time to presenting, editing, and exposing to a route that isn’t finished than one that has a more typically triumphant ending.

This may be my favorite climbing short series of all time. To have worked that hard and not gotten it is so frustrating, beautiful, and poetic. Adam you are my favorite professional climber for your ability to show real humility. So many climbing shorts follow the story arc of 1. cool shots of moves on the route, followed by difficulties 2. humility and vulnerability for the "down moment" 3. the inevitable send. It was so beautiful that this ended with unfinished business. It feels more like real life often does.

Trying a route called Perfecto Mundo in the very imperfect world of 2020 was always just asking the gods to shoot you down! However, while the gods were concentrating on foiling the send, they dropped the ball by allowing you and your team to create some of the best climbing content ever made. Well done Adam putting yourself out there for all to see and for coming up with such a compelling format. And well done to the team for the hours spent lugging gear and hanging in harnesses, sieving through hours of footage, editing it all into a set of beautiful short films, adding music that added to the content rather than just steamrolled over the top of it, and for staying sane while watching the rain fall!

It's weird to me to watch this. I have never been great, but I have watched a lot. The first Reel Rock I saw on tour was at Hans Florine's Diablo/Touchstone RG, with Adam vs Sharma, he is like 18, his Mom is there. It's such a hard sport, look a Olympic gymnasts, they retire at 18 most of the time. Today is the first time I felt like I was seeing signs of aging, injury, in Adam. My only street cred comes from saying the Face across from the Nose at Yosemite is named after Taft, a relative of mine. That's what Dean Potter jumped off of to his death. Thank you Adam, this in many ways is the best video I have ever seen you do, as what I would call a "film", not just a video. It's literature, like a Greek tragedy.
