9:14 you can press CTRL + R to change the clip UI to intuitively change the speed of the clip in Resolve but If you just wanna adjust the speed of an audio, you can do it much better in the fairlight page or in the edit page just right click and select change clip speed.

Thanks for your explain. I mostly use Final Cut Pro now, want to learn Davinci Resolve but have not a lot of motivation yet, one reason is I don't actually need something crazy, just want the simply cut, in this case the Final Cut Pro does quite well, another reason is I am using a laptop, which Final Cut Pro can have a really friendly UI and show the video viewer in HUGE size, while Davinci Resolve will be kind of cramp if you are not link to a 27 inch monitor. My best hope is to have magnetic timeline in perhaps the cut page or a new page, this function is really attractive to me.

9:11 Open the keyboard shortcut editor and search for keyframe. Under "Mark" -> "Keyframe", the default shortcut is Ctrl+[. I can't use that in my language, but on an American keyboard, you can, I think. Or change it. Use Ctrl+R to open the Retime Controls panel. Add keyframes (speed points) on the clip, by dragging the playhead, then click Ctrl+[ where you want speed points. Drag the speedpoints to your liking, just as you do in FCP. It's a bit cumbersome, as you need to drag the playhead, but the rest works as in FCP. It's easiest to do, in the top of the speed points. You can use elastic wave to stretch parts of an audio clip, but only in Fairlight.

I've bounced back and forth recently with both and as much as I like Resolve (Free Version) on my desktop, Resolve for iPad is still buggy and frustrating to use as the interface glitches for me quite a bit on my M1 iPad Pro. Final Cut just works as you pointed out. Since my original background as a photojournalist, documentary and street photographer, unscripted is the defacto in my work having transitioned to shooting more video. I shoot and edit solo with no collaboration. Final Cut handles footage really well on both my Desktop/laptop and iPad Pro. My only issue is handing off only goes one way for project files - ie; Final Cut for iPad project files can be handed off to desktop version but not the other way around. Resolve can do two way project hand off no problem via their cloud service or as I like to do, archiving the project to my NAS and downloading that to an external SSD using my iPad Pro to continue editing and then back for finishing on my desktop if needed Hopefully Apple can figure out a way to enable two way project handling so that FCP can be used no matter which device. If that becomes a reality, I'll probably uninstall Resolve as it's a huge program and I only need a handful of their tool set.

@@jakefelzien I agree on using the right tool for sure. As a self contained shooter/editor, I need the tools necessary to produce and deliver my work. I've been experimenting more and more with reducing what I need to edit. I have both M1 Macbook AIr and 11" iPad Pro - love the size and less weight of the iPad Pro but again, this comes down to issues with actual stability/usability for me at least. The mobile versions of both apps have their pros an cons as much as I've tested round tripping with both. Resolve is an amazing tool - especially what you get with the free version. Again, it feels incomplete on the iPad even though shortcut keys can open the other tabs they are buggy. For me, Final Cut on the iPad is only missing 2 things - Stabilization and true project interchange back and forth is basically all I need from FCP mobile. Maybe you or someone else has insights from your more in depth experiences about using Resolve on the iPad that I"m missing. I've watched numerous videos here on KZbin and they all basically say the same thing, yet my experience doesn't fully bear them out 🤷‍♂

Can't agree more. I started with Premiere and developed my career with FCPX. But FCPX is getting more and more like a rough-cut stage tool for me these days. The lack of convenient file exchange between different 'hats' is wasting so much time. And DR is the champion in that. That being said, I still love Finalcut so much when i just start the post production, coz everything is so smooth in final cut, your brain doesn't have to wait for the hands, it's like an extension of my body.

With enough time I promise there is the ability to have resolve feel “mostly” that was as well. My guess is the more time the more I’ll even get there. That being said I agree. The fundamental UI design and magnetic aspect makes me think it will struggle to get to 100%. I want to keep pushing though. Resolve is just TOO GOOD at so much right now

@@jakefelzien you know how final cut always creates rendered files? Will be great to compare how much does resolve. Also, I've seen that Resolve has many playback options, while FCPX only proxy/optimized and original. Would be interesting to see the difference and how much improvement in performance can have reolve(or FCPX) over it. Is just something that's been recently tempting me to make a switch from FCPX as I've been really getting out of data with 4k footage for proxy workflow. P.S. Sorry for long message, hopefully it makes sense =)

@@notsocasualYT In general I have found rendered content in Resolve to be MASSIVELY SMALLER if you set it up right. Also hate to say it... but in general playback has been snappier on Resolve for me for a while.... it is really nice. Again. If you are happy with FCP, don't switch. but if you are having friction points Resolve is almost better in just about every way and is worth learning and looking into. I would buy the studio version if you can afford it to make sure to get the highest performance as well.

haha what is the "powerful" part? i forget lol. yeah. i think at this point if you are a final cut pro editor, I just recommend to everyone to at least learn DaVinci. I know it is so hard to carve out time to learn a new software, but I really do think that it is one of those "worth it" type things. Even if you end up not liking it or using it that much, it is still good to learn and see how other things are working and kinda makes you think about things differently. I am at the point now where I just use whichever tool is the right one for the job. not always clear cut, but i find more an dmore that it is easier to make it that way the more i learn both.

Thinking about finally learning DVR and using both like you do. For the obvious reasons you just pointed out :) What about doing the raw edit in FCP which is good for multicams, overall magnetic timeline stuff etc... and then open it up in DVR via XML? Do multicam clips (done in FCP) open without issues in DCR when done via XML? Or does one need to export it (as ProRes) and open it (as a solid video) in DVR? Just thinking about the pariased stabilazion of DVR. If one has to export the FCP edit (and not use clips via XML) then one will lose quite a bit of headroom for the stabilazion, as the original clips wont be available...
@jakefelzien
@jakefelzien 9 ай бұрын
I would definitely jump into it. It is hard to give exact recommendations as each one has pieces that im sure you would like differently than me. You may even find that you just want to use Resolve and stay there the whole time. In general right now, Final Cut is my place for the "final cut". The story is made there. And then resolve acts as my "after effects" (if i can't make a graphic or something of that nature in final cut; magic mask is a great example) And then resolve also acts as my finisher: export the edit. export the audio roles. do a final audio mix in resolve and a color grade in resolve. This changes. And not every project gets this treatment, but this is a big part of how i do things right now.

Do you find it more complicated using the nodes in DaVinci compared to Final Cut's simpler color grading? I have been a Final Cut Pro user for many years and am on the fence about moving to Resolve because of the learning curve associated with mastering the nodes. Do you have any advice or maybe stick with FCP?
@jakefelzien
@jakefelzien 7 ай бұрын
Depends on your goals. If you want really good grades, Resolve is the best tool. No question. But if you are happy with your grades, why change? And you have lots of other things to learn. In general I only tell people to switch if it makes sense or they are needing something FCP can’t give them

I have REALLY enjoyed CapCut, but with rumors that the U.S. is going to ban TikTok, and therefore possibly other products of the mother company (incl.
