14 bolt is superior to D70. A d70 is d80 outer with a d60 inner. Pinion bearing support on the Corp 14 is very strong d70s are known to have pinion failure. D80 is king, rated higher than the new AAM 14.

LT there is a guy on eBay that makes big red knobs that he 3D prints for the release on the harbor freight presses, you just got to know what type of “t” you have one has a roll pin amd the other is solid. They are cheap and mine has held up great.... it just saves the extra step of grabbing pliers to release the jack. Hope this helps

One of my favorite episodes. Everyone should know how to do brakes and rotors. Maybe not axel swaps but nice way to get to see all the parts and how they work together without looking in a small area etc. love it. Also I bought a T-shirt from the merch store and it is the softest. Nice work.

Welding the axle tubes to the center carrier is a great mod and a little known fact… the center carrier is cast ‘steel’ and therefore weld compatible.

My hearing is toast. I had a 410 shotgun go off in a car with the barrel next to my left ear when I was 18. I never wore any PPE when I was young. I worked with powdered asbestos until they discovered it's hazards. Hearing aids help my hearing and so far I've suffered no ill effects from the asbestos. I'm soon 71. Dr's tell me not to worry as anything would have shown up by now. I do wear hearing protection and eye protection now. Haven't been good about wearing a respirator.

You are doing good stuff, a nice balance of explanation and hands on demonstration. One request, can you title the videos to make it easier to follow builds. Like the title of this video - no way to tell it is part of the suburban build. But other videos are titled great like "Jeep XJ LS Engine Swap Pt.5." Just asking you to make it easier to follow an individual build.
@LawrenceTolman
@LawrenceTolman 3 жыл бұрын
I use playlists to try and keep builds the organized in sequence, but the reason I don't use Part 3 and so forth on the video title is so they are more searchable by individual topic, which can help new viewers find the channel

LT, I'm wondering if you could of used a Dana 70 out of a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500? The only reason I'm saying is I have that truck. It has 4.10's and limited slip, and disc brakes already. The shocks are staggered like GM. The spring pads might be different, but maybe you should look for one in the south. Hardly any rust.😎

Is there any risk of warping the axle tubes while welding to the housing?
@astrosafarimike
@astrosafarimike 3 жыл бұрын
Can you explain the process of mig welding the tubes to the diff housing? Did you pre and post heat? I’m getting ready to do this on an 8.8.
@geoffmooregm
@geoffmooregm 3 жыл бұрын
It won't hurt. If you don't have one, get a Tiger Torch (Sometimes called a weed burner) for preheat. It will cast a large hot spot and preheat that housing in no time. 250°F will be plenty. If you don't have any means of measuring the temperature just drip some water (droplets) on it. When it boils your over 212°F. Its wise to check 3" each side of the weld centerline. That axle tube is a little on the thin side. If you can stand it up vertical and weld 1/4 of the distance around the tube, stop, then quickly weld 1/4 of the tube directly across from the first spot. Check your preheat again and finish the weld.
