It's funny, I remember Jessie having a thing for Cloud in the original game, but we never get to spend enough time with her to get to know her in any detail. In fact, I'd never even really pondered what she'd look like before. But in this game, she easily gives Tifa and Aerith a run for their money... if I were in Cloud's absurdly enviable position, Jessie would be some serious competition for those two... I mean, she's fucking badass and I really like her sense of humor.

I feel like Aerith balances Cloud’s personality very well since she’s more flirty and extroverted. I won’t be surprised if he had a crush on her. And I say crush because they only spent like, 2 days together Their relationship is like, a dreamy, cute, delightful, almost perfect, illusion but ephemeral. Reminds me of animes. Whereas Tifa and Cloud’s relationship, is more realistic, tends to focus on the real world and its events, not always happy, it has ups and downs, joy and tears just like any couple in real life. At the end, it’s up to the player to choose how to interpret these relationships. For me, I’d go with Cloud and Tifa. Not only because realism works well with me, but also because their relationship was build up from the start with so many events, and yet they’re still here, standing strong and caring for each other. They are both similar which might be boring in a relationship, but that’s what appeals to me. And their back story has so much impact, it makes their relationship endearing.

Cloud has "known" Tifa since childhood. Cloud has known Aerith for one day, and she is already really important to him. The biggest reason is, that Aerith is kind, gentle, patient, understanding and caring with Cloud. Aerith can break his ice and open the lock in his heart. It broke my heart when Cloud was being ignored by everyone at the 7th Heaven after his mission was over. Tifa could've asked him to join them, but no. It didn't even seem like they were talking about work related stuff... so Cloud could've joined them. Also Cloud was being and outcast in the OG game's childhood. Cloud is used to be alone and outcasted by other. But Aerith doesn't ignore him and even insist to be with him. Tifa can be also pretty jealous. Like Cloud goes to her after she has dropped, and she immediatly starts to ask if Aerith and Cloud have something going on. Also the resolution scene:Tifa is disappointed after learning where the flower came from and judges Cloud by it. Like where is the simple "thank you"? Even Tifa is dismissive of him at times (I am STILL angry about her in that restaurant scene, where she says, "don't be angry, but I have to spend time with others, too". Like....Huh??? REALLY, Tifa?? You can't make time for Cloud? You can't invite him to sit down and join you and Barrett? Seriously??), yet she then has the ACTUAL NERVE to get jealous when another girl shows her appreciation of Cloud. This version of Tifa makes me question if she truly loves him, or if she just has a convenience crush on him. In AC Aerith was a big help with Cloud's guilt and sorrow. Tifa just kept saying "move on" and even told him that his problems aren't even that bad? Honestly they seemed a couple, who are in the verge of breaking up. Cloud and Tifa are missing chemistry. I think Barret and Tifa have much better chemistry together. Cloud and Aerith belong together! "At first when I met Cloud, I believed he was similar to Zack. Little actions, the way he spoke... his kindness. But Cloud is Cloud. I, now undoubtedly, love Cloud much more than Zack." --Aerith's monologue in Gongaga; FFVII Dismantled "When her thoughts turned to Cloud, Aerith hurt deeply. She had been carrying love for him. @@reb9995 I think many players can agree with my sentiment of never having interpreted Tifa as being dismissive or mean-spirited. She is just a bit more guarded in comparison to Aerith who is an open book, due to the trauma she and Cloud experienced back in Nibelheim. That's also part of the reason why it took so long for them to communicate their feelings because it meant having to face and come to terms with that trauma. Also, I think we can agree to disagree on who suits Cloud best, but unfortunately, we will never know the full extent of Cloud's feelings for Aerith because of what happens to her. Though I don't deny that Aerith was special to Cloud or that Aerith loved him. And even though I am a bigger supporter of the Cloud X Tifa myself, please don't mistake this as an attack on Clerith. Too many times have I seen people argue over Cloti vs Clerith, at the end of the day many things in the game are left up to interpretation and we can all have our opinions. I'll finish with my own evidence supporting Cloti: “Before leaving the village, he boldly called to Tifa, a girl he liked romantically, and declared he would become a SOLDIER.” - 10th Anniversary Ultimania, pg 12. “Even though Cloud was holding feelings for Tifa from some time ago, Tifa’s interest in Cloud did not start until the time when the promised was exchanged. It might have been her loneliness due to her surrounding friends leaving one after another, but more than that, it seems largely in part to him making the promise to become her hero. By the way, Tifa did not realize that Cloud was holding feelings for her until he informed her in the Lifestream. Even though she was called and it was just the two of them, she can be quite clueless.” -Ultimania Omega pg 25. “She ventured into Lifestream together with Cloud. It's not the true Cloud that Tifa remembers. It wouldn't be heartfelt until he finally remembered everything about what happened in Nibelheim and recovers his true memories. Don't want to spoil anything but the remake hints at the fact that Cloud isn't all there when it comes to his childhood memories.

But in return, we have lots of moments of them (Cloud-Tifa) saving each other, or Cloud being overprotective, worrying about Tifa and comforting her. Cloud's a hard-boiled guy, but ended up showing a delightful smile to Tifa. My god! I think SE has put hundreds of subtle affectionate hints in all their gestures, tones of voice and eye contact! Every second of them counts :))

Awww best girl for me was always Jessie was heart-breaking her scene. That is why what happens with Aerith later I was already thinking dang, Square is NOT pulling any punches. Also why in FF8 in space I was thinking it was gonna happen again with Rinoa. Glad they really fleshed her out though, also with Biggs and Wedge. Man Disc 1 is like a game onto itself with the game play and emotions. This remake feels like it fills in everything I was putting in with head cannon when it comes to the avalanche crew. I may be getting the new PS console just solely for this game! Still..... Jessie forever!

I’ve never been invested in a video game relationship as much as in this game. Aerith and Jessie are great, but I’m Team Tifa all day. Omg, if Marlene isn't just the cutest little thing EVER... the only thing cuter is her dynamic with Barrett! In the original game, Barrett having a little girl named Marlene was just a plot point and a reason for him to get hysterical. 'Cuz drama. But in this version their father-daughter dynamic is the sweetest thing ever. The first time we see Barrett drop the gruff machismo facade and actually smile and become relaxed and happy is when we first see him with Marlene (and when he first takes off his sunglasses on the train and we can see his eyes, the first thought that comes to my mind when I see them is the word "Sadness" - they gave him very sad-looking eyes, which only makes sense, given all the tragic loss and heartbreak he's suffered... so for him, his ability to even BE happy manifests entirely in Marlene. She's his EVERYTHING. So now I actually CARE if Barrett panics 'cuz he thinks he's lost Marlene, instead of rolling my eyes and mentally telling Barrett to shut up and get on with it :P

FF7 - the only Final Fantasy game that made me worried on identifying who the female lead is. I love Tifa for Cloud since 1997 and probably till the rest of my life. But Square Enix has its own way to play with my heart in the person of Aerith. I don't like how she tries to get herself involved in everything. She is so persistent, it's kinda annoying. I'm just so glad that Cloud and Tifa have their relationship established since childhood. They are each other's family and no one can take that away. Tifa is beautiful inside and out.
