In all honesty, I love this guy. He reminds me of one of those stereotypical race car villains from the 90s. I feel like he'll be a reoccurring character just based on his dialogue. "There are higher heights to which you and I can still soar...." I hope we see more of him in part 2. Also, I wonder if Cloud's encounter with Roche gave him the skills shown later on with the Hardy Daytona.

I heard some rumors claim that Roche is going to be used as a way to showcase how bad SOLDIER degradation gets, by the time the remakes are over Roche would be a shell of his former self not really knowing who he is, but still seeks out cloud to challenge him, not even knowing why he is doing it. Every encounter the degradation gets a little worse until it gets to a point fighting cloud and riding his motorcycle is the only time he really feels anything

It's not easy to be a new character to appear in a remake and have their presence feel natural. Roche though feels like he belongs. The only downside is that he wasn't the boss for the highway scene, that would've been perfect and a great way to legitimize chapter 4 for the larger story.

@Insight Hazard I don't hate him, I absolutely adore his character. I never hate characters without a good reason (IE a complete scumbag..like Don Corneo). And those are like super rare. For me most characters fall into "I like them" or "I love to hate them". And by love to hate, I mean villains and such that are just awesome as characters (IE Handsome Jack)

Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I really hope we can somehow save Roche (and Broden too if we ever see him again) in part 3, though I'm afraid we're probably gonna have to mercy kill him since Hojo has him at the end of Rebirth (I have a feeling Roche will be used for part 3's Jenova fight)

Roche is far too corny of a character. He adds nothing to the plot, his phrases are over the top and cringy like some dated "suave cool badass" type and his bike stunts gave me major Advent Children vibes lol (y'all remember that fight scene with cloud in the expressway tunnel on motorbikes? Yeah that one). For me he is just an absolute dork who thinks he is cool. And again... He was pointless. Edit: but battling him is a lot of fun, just wish he didn't babble through each big move.

Jonny Maldonado I disagree. For new players not familiar with Crisis Core, they don’t really know what the big deal with SOLIDER is besides the hype that Cloud “was” one. Original game only had random mooks you fought and forgot about. Adding a new character still in service with SOLDIER can portray them as a tiered special operations unit that’s a cut above conventional Shinra infantry and their over-reliance on drone platforms. It shows when the patrol bikes pull back in fear when they hear Roche is on the road, and Clouds frustration that a SOLDIER is pursuing them. Making him a complete nut adds to the callback where the Turks thinks everyone in SOLDIER are weird. As in real life, most special operations guys I’ve worked with when I was active duty were real oddballs, but 100% skilled professionals on the battlefield.
