Yeah okay mate 😂. The actual game is like 20 hours and it's been artificially padded out to include 14 hours worth of linear corridor fighting akin to FFXIII and fetch quests akin to FFXV (both were slated because of these reasons). Square may not have rushed this game, but they definitely haven't done the best job they could have with this at all, a game that should have been an easy 9/10 is a meager 7/10 with players. The reviewer has missed a ton of negatives in the review leading me to question whether he even played it or not.

@@ilovelctr i'm half way through the game, and so far i'd say this is the biggest load of bullshit i've read from multiple reviewers. the side quests are such a small part of the game and they fit well with the pacing of the game. After you've done some crazy shit, it's nice to cool down with some simple side missions, and it doesn't feel like padding at all. everyone who has said that is overblowing it. this game has been a total page turner for the first 20 hours

@Matthew M That was my thought at first. But I gave it a shot. It is 100% worth every penny. It's not just a tutorial section, which you would know if you'd actually watched the review. It brings the world to life. It's a full-fledged game inspired by the old tutorial section of the original. And a good 40+ hours for an RPG is pretty damned solid. Actually learning about the characters you're allied with - especially side characters like Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie- adds so much to the FFVII universe. Getting an apartment and staying in Section 7 down the road from Seventh Heaven, meeting the people in Midgar, helping them, and actually seeing the consequences- good or bad- of your actions is something none of us could have imagined until now. Borrow it from a friend, get it on PlayStation Now if it's there, or buy it, but do give it a playthrough. It's not just a tutorial. Seriously, you have no idea what is in store for you. I already can't wait for the next release.

I played the OG version of the game, but I haven't played the remake. After watching the 10/10 review I have to play it. It warms my heart good to see a review that's well though out and well put together. It makes the anticipation of playing the game that much more exciting to look forward too. VERY WELL DONE!!!

You got to be kidding me. FF7R it's by no means a masterpiece. It's a visually appealing game, yes. It has some strong emotional moments, driven mostly by the exploiting of nostalgia, anticipation and the thirst of extended lore hardcore fans have, but overall by adding all sorts of padding to artificially bloat the runtime, they ended up killing the pace and momentum the game builds. Furthermore by overusing key plotlines they lessened all the impact those reveals would had at their proper time That even if this was a remake and not what it is... A retelling of FF7. The best fan fiction of an era, an impressive feat of technical effects with an underwhelming conclusion and several frustrating moments where the game tries to give you the illusion of freedom just to put a crate on a ladder and shove you right along the linear path again (But this time you have to take the long way around, with a bunch of side quest material shoved into the main scenario) 7.5/10 and I'm being quite generous. Don't even get me started with how they assassinated Cloud's Character with the dance scene... FF7 if made by tumblr...

I really liked this review. I’ve noticed many FF7R reviews emphasizing the games weaknesses. And it does have them. But I find it odd. What the game does well, it does incredibly well. So much that emphasizing the games flaws as if they are some how comparable to it’s strengths is silly to me. I’ve seen reviews say “a great but flawed game” which makes me think ok, this is a game with strengths and weaknesses that balance. But this is a game with some minor Lows and some major highs. Possibly the greatest soundtrack ever made in a video game. One of the best stories ever told from a JRPG. Amazing graphics and voice acting and story telling. A perfect combat and progression system. The game is an achievement and I hope square does listen to the negative feedback to improve the game for part 2, but I hope everyone who contributed to this games development takes a moment to understand what they have created here. They did the impossible. Remake a classic without utterly enraging it’s cult fan base :), while also making it accessible to newer players and expanding and changing the source.

Just finished the game today. I agree with everything you mentioned in the review, but you forgot to mention that they start to butcher the story during the raid at Shinra HQ. The ending left me so disappointed .... They just had to stick to the story for f*** sake .

Such lies this game is terrible. It isn’t any better than any other game. And they messed up the atmosphere of Midgard. It’s filled with filler and the story was ruined. The RPG mechanicsare for casuals. And it’s only 25 hours long. Ff7 for the ps1 kills this game. Have fun waiting two years for part two.

@@mrcrazy7865 the story is the same, but fleshed out, for the most part. Brand new elements are added early in the form of whispers. The reveal of what these things are is where the story takes a completely different turn. It's hard to see how the rest of the story can align with the original after this. And given Nomura's record, he doesn't know either.

I’m a mega fan. Just finished the game. I agree mostly with this review BUT there are story-fillers that are extreamly bad. They should have skipped certain parts that feels meh. There is a lot of magic in this game and many moments to aww over - those were worth the long wait.

There’s a reason why FFVII has remained the most popular of the Final Fantasy series. While other entires may have had better gameplay mechanics and arguably better stories, I think FFVII simply has the best cast of characters. Cloud alone is a damn near perfect coming-of-age character. The designs are extremely iconic and haven’t been succeeded since, and the soundtrack is simply masterful.

Seeing zack and the final fight with sephiroth was awesome .. yes it wasn't in the original but the original really didn't expand on midgar and that's what they did here ... also smart for SE to do what they did at the end because it leaves the game on a cliff hanger and makes anyone who loved the original want to continue playing it when the next parts come .. its all a foreshadowing. The original didn't have the scope they showed here simply because midgar was just an introduction .
