Man i remember having this game I tried to play it with a friend when we were like 12, english wasn't our native language, so it took us ages to figure stuff out and we were so happy when it finally said insert Disc 2, we never got further or we gave up i dont remember xD What i do remember is that terrifying robot spider chase hahah, also the summoning was amazing for that time such a good game!

Thanks J Sunn! I'm glad it appears so effortless ;) We mostly rely on junctioning powerful magic, such as Triple, to STR and then abuse Limits repeatedly by staying in low HP. Furthermore, we stay low level to fight lower level versions of all the enemies (as enemy level scales in FF8).

@@Cordellium Thank you very much for the explaination! It seems effortless, but I very well know it isn't. I played this game a lot, this is my fav FF, but never even noticed the enemy strenght scales up with leveling up, or how to use limit breaks because I was healing all the time with a lot of potions on me all the time, plus Cure/Curaga/Curaja. Good times!

can't believe it's been almost a year since this came out. I think for first time players this version isn't so bad because they probably won't notice all the problems with this ver, but I was overall super disappointed with this port. It was fun on ps4 for the trophies but the mods for the vanilla 2013 steam version look better and have a lot more love and put into them imo, and is less expensive overall. I just think ff8 deserved better. Landing crits in this game with Squall on this version is also cancer.

Preaching to the choir on this one. They had a real opportunity to do more than a quick cash grab. It's better than the Steam version in some nominal respects, e.g. in game music sounds like original without modding, and it is available and modern platforms etc. But the seeming lackadaisical effort shines through as soon as you get past the opening FMV and see the glaring shortcomings. Bad resolution pre-rendered backgrounds that make the rather nice character models (at least for those that aren't just plastered in as part of backgrounds themselves) look as though they are part of a different game. Same low FPS as Steam version. No analog control support. And much more. Two nights ago, I briefly dreamed of a FF8 remake proper. Let's hope such a thing is sparked into reality :) Cheers Amuro!

Great game! Btw just curious how can you remember all the story line where to go, as you play in japanese language. Including all items equipment n spells like cure curaga etc... 😂

Great game indeed! And as far as language goes, thankfully playing FFVIII in Japanese is relatively forgiving in that the majority of stuff remains in the same spot. So having the muscle memory in English goes a long ways towards being able to play it in Japanese.

Because the dubbed version is always worse. Serious answer is that it's just a faster language overall than English or any of the others for that matter for the Remastered version, and unlike say the original PlayStation version where different languages are region locked (e.g. you can only play a Japanese version of the game on a Japanese PlayStation), any language that it has been translated into is available to choose. On the original Steam version, French is the language of choice due to it being the fastest of the options available and it being nigh impossible to play the Japanese version unless you are a local resident.

99% muscle memory. Luckily, if you know one version/language of FF8, you practically know all others as positions of commands, items, menus etc. remain the same. The only difference is how some menus are done as there is no junction switch command in Japanese.

I loved this game so damn much. Easily the best Final Fantasy. Don't say 14 or 7. 14 needed updates for years, and 7 is overrated af. Edit: I take that back. Tactics is the best FF game.

Hello, this may seem a pretty much newb question but... How can you skip all those annoying tutorials quistis tells you at the beggining like at 9.47? There a brief tutorial about GF should happen. Im way experienced on ff8 and i dont think i need them anymore :P Playing on ps4 btw And congrats for the run, it was awesome!!

I agree with the spirit of your sentiment for viewer-experience. However, for this category, it's just convention to use Japanese as it's fastest. Other versions have languages split for categories such as the original (and imo far superior) PSX version.

That answer is hilarious x) i recently played alot ff games and my first time playing ff8 felt pretty bad. I junctioned all the time and never played with the cards xD. But i love the cutszenes and the rinoa is ultimecia theory ALOT. Sadly still cant figure out how to actually play xD
