No, Ovelia doesn't die from being stabbed in the guts. She survives and dies of other things later. Most likely complications as a result of being stabbed in the guts.

What was the point of the double stabing in the final scene if both of them survived??? And to say that she died long time after leaving Delita to rule?? So what, they just forgot about what happened and lived together after? Are you kidding me Ovelia cleary fainted/died after the stab, giving the player/viewer a clear message that she was killed in cold blood Honestly I would have preferred to believe that both of them died in that scene showing that Ovelia was just a victim for that false monarchy and "king" Delita died cuz of his greed to change the world without giving a shit about all those lost lives

The point of the scene is to show that Ovelia has been broken by the trauma, and can no longer trust those around her, and Delita's rule is going to be an extremely lonely one where nothing has changed for him. His life will continue to be one of treachery and retaliation. His end in all this is realizing that he has succeeded in his ambitions and desires, what follows will be the easy part and... this is his reward. Ever wary of unseen daggers from even those he might call family. He'll never be able to easily set aside his armor. He'll never have the loving family and brotherhood he once had. TL;DR: He won, and lost everything in the process.

@@sephirothangel563 Delita talks about building a new Kingdom not only for his ambition, but for Ovelia too, in the conversation with Olan no less, although more apparent in WotL. He also makes it very explicit he loves Ovelia in his conversation with Ramza at the church in Zeltennia, unless what you mean is that he never told HER that fact. He did still use her as means to an end, but Ovelia's perception of his plan and himselfe were still twisted from her previous experience and trauma, and she didnt see anywhere past the fact she was used by him.

@@Someone_Somewhere7 . Delita doesn't outright confirm to Ramza that he loved her, he was kind of ambiguous, tho, of course, in that ambiguity he implies he cares for her, but still, he was using Ramza too, so who knows if he only said that to have Ramza do what he wanted, do not forget he said that after Ramza asked Delita to come with him, but the truth is that he said that also as an excuse to turn down Ramza's offer. In any case that conversation happens even before Delita managed to succeed Golthana, while I actually think he cared for Ovelia (not sure if he loved her), by the time the scene of with Oran takes place (and the ending scene too) it seems Delita cares more about his own goal than Ovelia herself, he indeed mentions he wants to create a kingdom for Ovelia, but at the same time he also mentions how he wanted to use the story of the commoner saves the kingdom and becomes King to manipulate the people. In the end, Ovelia is truly nothing more than a tool for him to reach and end.

@@J7Jase Personally, I like to believe that an explanation for Ramza's continued life was purely the fact that Orann Durai tried to publish Ramza's events. The church at the time condemned him and labeled him a heratic, burning him alive. The church very well knew Ramza was alive, infact the account of the translation of the Durai Papers suggests Ramza was avidly helping Delita establish his Empire. If Ramza had died they would not have gone through so much trouble to cover up the actual story, that would merely have made a martyr of him regardless of the events that transpired. Orann had to have some amount of contact with Ramza after the battle with Ultima to have detailed information into the events of his life, even the events prior to Balbanes death. One could argue that information could have been public record and easy attainable but if the church is gonna cover it up, you bet they're gonna do the full deal. Just look at what they did to their own people. It's my firm belief the Durai papers prove Ramza survived the end of FFT.

I was one of those who believed all of them died in the end. But then again, I took everything at face value back then, and I even consoled myself by saying that Ramza and Alma in fact did survive and went into a secluded life, explained by Orran seeing them passing by in the ending, in defiance to what I had thought was the final ending of the story. So glad the writer explained the ending and the alternate ending, and he was right in saying that it did bring closure to me, who completed the game 15 years ago and learning to come to terms with the worst sort of ending

I’m gonna press X to doubt on Ovelia surviving that stab, Ramza and Alma on the other hand, I can agree with since we actually see them alive riding their Chocobo’s. I'm really puzzled at how the director could not have intended an ending as poetic as Delita and Ovelia dying. Delita dying alone in the snow at the hands of Ovelia, with "I got this" as his last words, was just way too profound. However if that's not how Matsuno saw it, I suppose I can go with that :). Perhaps it opens the door for some kind of redemptive arc and more of a story to be told. It's just all these years the emotional weight of that ending rested on both of them dying.

Matsuno coulda fooled me with Delita knifing Ovelia at the end, I didn't think anything else besides Delita straight up killed her because he must've felt betrayed. Don't get me wrong, I like Delita, but he always made me think like ok, his character is some psycho/sociopath that really doesn't care about anyone else or their personal emotions because the loss of his sister "pushed him over to the dark side". The scene where he says "Is that so wrong" when Balmafula and Olan confront him about him becoming the King and using everyone also led me to believe that Delita lives in his own little delusional Delita bubble - his ambitions and goals come before all else. Even the whole love story of Delita and Ovelia, I thought that Ovelia believes in them together, but Delita was just using her and her status since day 1 when he saw his golden opportunity. So...even if Matsuno says "no Ovelia didn't die but she dies of other reasons later", to me personally that makes 0% sense, Delita doesn't seem like the kind of person that forgives betrayal (from his point of view), and he's killed others for much less.

Not gonna lie, I like the original PSX translation of what Delita says at the end. The vague "What did you get" as opposed to asking if Ramza go "your end in all of this", hits differently, as well as Delita's unfinished "I..." rather than "I got this.", which to me felt like Delita almost, too ashamed to say what he got even though Ramza wasn't there.

Might have to do with the quirks of the Japanese language and the first translation not fully making clear what was really meant by that line. I wish Vagrant Story Ending was explained though I have a theoretical way of explaining the ending of it for myself (after having played it a long time): Now here's the way to look at it (theoretically as I've mentioned above): It is said by John Hardin that he who bears the BloodSin can take the city (something like that, I can't recall the exact words for everyone, apologies for that) and a soul is needed to complete the ritual. Sydney says (when conversing with Rosencrantz), "I gave my limbs to the Gods, perhaps I'll add yours the offering," and he holds the key (The BloodSin on his back is the key and he has offered his own limbs as a sacrifice to complete the ritual/sacred rite or whatever it's called. Guildenstern rips Sydney's Bloodsin from his back and offers Samantha as the sacrifice. These to incidents are linked in the same way as how in the KEMCO RPG Band of Monsters is related. In Band of Monsters, Zara has to sacrifice something which is important to him to inherit strong power (his buddy Woff), who is with him for that last moment before he changes into the form of sound (though later on in the game he returns, this matters not as up to this much the story is similar to Vagrant Story). Zara (also a woman's name in many asian countries like Ashley from Vagrant Story has that feminine name). In the Band of Monsters, monsters are combined to make powerful monsters, instead of weapons like in Vagrant Story. Anyways going back to the sacrifice talk: Sydney's something which was precious to him was his limbs, so he sacrificed them (yet he did not take the city, as he was testing Ash to see if he'd be fit enough as the vessel for the dark as they call it) and to Guildenstern, was his Samantha (his girlfriend from the looks of it). Now for Ashley Riot, were his beloved family (Marco his son and Tia his wife). Whether they had been killed as a part of his mission (we all know Ashley changes during the first moment of the game as he's so motivated to find the truth that he descends alone into the dark city of Léa Monde, stating the he is the reinforcements). Despite this whether his family were dead or alive, it didn't change the fact that they were precious to him. So, just before a voice is heard saying that his mission is not yet over, he is first reunited with his family, before they happily serve as his sacrifice (this can be proven when his son, Marco states, "I'm not crying Papa, see I'm not crying" and when his wife adds, "You gave me a lifetime's worth of love"). Further more, Ashley Riot is seen in the cutscene with the Red BloodSin Tattoo on his way back as he's carrying the body of Sydney. And as mentioned by Guildenstern before the battle with Father Duane about the Incomplete death, the state of Incomplete Death is what Sydney is suffering though the game and finally his Father (Duke Bardorba), who states that he was not much of a Father to him, ends his suffering by sending him to death with that little dagger like sword, looking much like the Excalibur and the BloodSin or Rood Inverse tattoo. This way, Sydney can finally move on to the afterlife and not be kept from passing away like in Corpse Party where the victims of that nexus are kept in that image of a school (Heavenly Host Eementary) as darkening affected souls bound to the school for all eternity.

I had always figured that Ramza and company didn't die by the fact they were seen by Olan and apparently that Bulfama also survived her attack from Delita. I did, however, think that Ovelia die from being stabbed by Delita, but this clears that up. I do wish however, that they would have maybe had her limping away injured. From the game's ending perspective it does appear that she died and until now thats all we had to go on.

for me Delita is still a big A**hole who pretty much did nothing but screw things for us at the end and took all the credit for himself, first he suddenly betrayed us, started kidnapping, murdering, and manipulating all sides, and did not even join us in the final battle while basically doing nothing and becomes king while us did the job for him without getting his hands dirty. if Yasumi Matsuno tweeted this then they should remake Final Fantasy Tactics yet again with bonus scenes described from his tweet since his tweet is irrelevant for now on what is shown at the ending of the game and War of the Lions. Delita's proof of a redemption arc won't do for a mere tweet on X (formerly Twitter) since his tweet ain't part of officially released material such as Games, Novels, Manuals, comics/manga, etc. despite being the writer or director. it's still not considered canon since his tweet might get deleted one day, making this information irrelevant until they plan to put this on an official game. so yes his reasoning is proven Non-Canon, what-if scenario or cut content for now even though he is the one who wrote this as long the things he describes are still not written or shown in official material that connects to the game itself. Delita is still a huge jerk through out the entire game.

Hey thanks so much for your comment! Really awesome out of the box thinking. For me I think they can only learn Ultima because of gameplay purposes to make them unique. But you might be onto something there. When you defeat Ultima at the end of the game, Ultima does mention being defeated by a relative of Ramza's in the past. Ramza also has the Zodiac Stones too, so maybe they are also giving him good power? Sorry but I don't buy it. It is very clear that the OG ending was meant to be ambiguous and open ended. There would be no point in including the stab scene if the real intention was for both characters to survive. What I believe happened is that Matsuno retconned the open ended nature of the OG ending because he was hired by Square to write for FF14 and thus the OG ending would be too dark to market for the general audience. TL,DR: Matsuno lied after the fact for marketing reasons.

Huh. the only thing it really cleared up definitely for me at least, was that Ovelia survived Delita's countersabbing. Personally, I still have mixed feelings about Ovelia stabbing Ovelia at all, but that just goes to show how complex the whole situation really was in Ivalice at the time and how badly Delita sucks at building trust with folks.... Still, did he 'deserve' to get stabbed? That's debatable. Still, FFT is one of my favorite games storywise for just how brilliantly crafted and complex its narrative and worldbuilding was. Well, that and it did really felt accurate to its real world 12th century medieval Europe influences, right down to the speech too. Well, tbf, they prolly would've used 'Middle English' over the early modern to Elizabethan style used, but meh. Point is that I still liked it.

That means So Much to the overall story of Delita; it solidifies how Twisted Delita has become. Also that stab moment would never have happened if the party had survived bcuz Agrias would have returned to Ophelias side. They can explain Ramza and Alba living the rest of their life in secrecy BUT what about everyone else in the party... Everyone lived out the rest of their life in hiding?... thats just ridiculous. But there really wasn't a continuation of the game though. Unless you argue the FFT characters cameo appearances in other things. Ramza and Alma were seen at the cemetery though so that is a confirmation they are alive. Even the writer said so himself. (I mean your points are valid but Matsuno went out on Twitter and said something else.) I respect your comment but I have all my proof in the screenshots of what he wrote.

The Absolute Evil are the group of people are the ones summoning those demons from those Stones. As for Ramza is the true hero , who saved the world without any conditions selflessly, even though he is the illegitimate child of his noble family bloodline , Only he inherited the noble characteristics of his father , whereas his stepbrothers (legitimate children of the noble family) never did inherited the nobleness of his father and were scumbags.

@@ricflair4052 You are totally right. I hate the way he treats Ramza after. Ramza literally abandons his position and even fights his own Knights all because of Delita. I honestly don't blame him but Delita didn't appreciate any of that. Not to mention he was ready to have Orlandeau killed and even Orran imprisoned since they were obstacles to the throne for him. When they literally had and did nothing against him. He also used Ramza to get rid of the Lucavi too. Because Delita knows he can't beat them. I'm glad you think Ramza is the true hero as do I! Some people honestly think its Delita, I do not agree with that. I like to think that Zalbag was actually a good person but very naive and blind and followed Dycedrag a bit too much. But he deserved to die with the way he had Delita's sister killed and even for doubting his own brother Ramza. He was decalred the Savior of Ivalice and people loved him. He could have stopped the war if he listened to Ramza early on. But Karma caught up to him.

Eh, I think the first death we need here is “Death of the Author”. Ovelia is clearly dead. Delita I'll give you because he could feasibly survive. The heroes have to pretend to be dead because the church sees them all as heretic criminals.

I hate the idea that Ovelia survives. Just a lack of critical thinking. How are Delita and Ovelia supposed to come back from that, even within the context of a loveless political marriage? They both tried to kill each other. Not to mention Ovelia knows who Delita really is, she knows where all the actual and proverbial bodies are buried. An adversarial Ovelia is the only threat left to Delita's entire reason for existence after Tietra's death (and we know that Delita has a long and peaceful rule, so a civil war with Ovelia didn't happen). If Ovelia didn't die in this scene then Delita would have no choice but to kill her after she attacked him, less he lose everything.

Hello. I love this game a lot, it is one of my favorite final fantasy games, however what u say doesn't convince me. The ending is very bad, I don't know what they were thinking, the plot is good up to some point but the ending sucks. If there was not this scene with delita and ovelia, I would give a 10/10 to the storyline, but only because of that scene I give a 2/10. I still give 10/10 to the music and 10/10 to the gameplay and I like playing this game again and again, but i don't like the way it finished. About Ramza and Alma I believe they are alive because you can see them riding their chocobos but I am not 100% sure about that either. As for Ovelia she dies obviously, Delita survives because he is a king later on and he rules the kingdom. If they were both alive and ruled, It would be a perfect happy ending, but affortunately they decided to make a very bad ending and Ovelia is dead.

@@J7Jase thanks for answering. Yes I see what Yasumi Matsuno says, but it doesn't make sense to me, because in the cutscene Ovelia is clearly dead. I believe he regreted the ending....sth like that. I would like to ask sth else I didn't understand to the plot. Tietra was killed by Argath in chapter 1, and all of them hate Argath but the order was given by Ramza's brother Zalbaag. If I were Delita I would hate Zalbaag more than Argath. Is this a bad spot to the storyline or did i miss sth there?

@@yannisv.4914 That is the word from Matsuno but I think he had to rush the game because a lot of content was also cut from the final version of the game too. For Chapter 1 that part of the story at times does not make sense. Like Argath being givne a command of Knights so some things are unclear.

"That's not what I meant to show with that scene." Except, that's literally what you DID show. Delita stabbing Ovelia and leaving her there bleeding and dying. Lmfao. This kind of stuff can be chalked up to the goofy writing culture in Japan. Like how every manga or anime has >60% filler by law (lmao, joke) and how back and forth and corkscrewy their plots and lore are for almost every medium. The only time it seems to be pulled together in a coherent knot, instead of left as loose threads that seem to go no where and have no logical connection to the next part of the story (except that the writer says it does), is when they are guided or edited by someone from the west, usually an english speaker. Some of it can be attributed to translations (all your base are belong to us) or a difference in culture, but read a book that's been translated more directly (google) and edited vs by an english speaker vs by a Japanese speaker who learned english writing and speech. Tell me which one seems illogical and which one at least tries to make sense.

As a kid, I remember telling an older friend "I want to see ALL the dragon ball z episodes!" She told me I didn't and proved it by showing me that there was something like 200 episodes between the saiyan saga and the freiza saga. Not 200 episodes between the saiyan fight and the freiza fight, 200 episodes between the END of the Saiyan saga and the BEGINNING of the Freiza saga!!!!! I'm exagerating of course...... But not even that much. Seriously. Outside of Goku and Piccolo learning to drive a car, which was hilarious, 90% of the episodes outside of the fighting could be completely cut and you really wouldn't miss anything important.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Comparing FFT to TO LUCT, there were a lot of dialogue and character interaction missing. I also think he wanted to expand on Delita more but that was ultimately cut out due to time.
