+Pulsafrr I can't stop watching between 2:27-2:46, that 30 seconds or so. The cutting between the images Tifa, Barrett and Yuffie hitting their limit breaks between 2:16 and 2:46 along with that spiraling flute sound are also to die to for. Just use this in the remake Square, it perfectly encapuslates the vibe of the original but grander.

I think what blows the mind more than anything is just how good this sounds when Orchestrated like for like. Initially, It doesn't sound like they dropped a single element of the original and added nothing either. Must take a lot of skill to write great music with the old sound chips of the 80s and 90s :)

I actually like this one a lot. The thing is I tend to think of a lot of the older video game music as having something integral that's special about it due to the game "spriteness" about it. I don't know how to describe it...it's kind of like how Kermit the Frog would never work as a CGI character because he IS a puppet, even if it's cruder. Weird analogy, but anyway... I like how this one enhanced without sacrificing the nature of the original song. (That's the main reason I can't find a good version of "Those Who Fight Further"...all of them seem to want to replace something.)

I absolutely agree with you when you say modern OST's have traded catchy theme with boring background ambience, there is no characteristic melody to latch on to emotionally, like this song has for example. VH Costa Background ambience is a good thing. If it were just a great melody with no background ambience it would sound terrible. It is good to have a balance between a good melody and background ambience.(You probably already know this though) P.S. I know this is old

THIS IS AWESOME, though I do hope the flute solo at 1.08 can be louder. From the beginning of the song the bass and the strings have been building up sick energy, which makes me imagine a huge chaos approaching. This energy reaches its peak near 1.00, which is where the flute comes in strong, kinda like a girl standing amid the chaos strong and vigilant, and articulating more clearly than all that chaos combined. This was good until 1.08, where the flute kinda got relatively softer, almost like the girl is feeling intimidated by something :( I am aware that the flute is the hardest wind instrument to handle so I was thinking maybe digitally up the volume of the flute coz that solo at 1.08 is so important but it is being overridden by the support instruments :( Everything else is bloody fantastic though, keep up that energy level, I freaking love this piece

It amazes me that this is (I think) the only homemade redux of "Let the Battles Begin" that keeps the iron bell during the ascending scales. Such a necessary component to the track, with the industrial theme that permeates FF7. I'm not big on the flute bridge sections, but when the strings take over and the brass gets countermelody in that section shortly after, hell yes.
