I’m playing my first Final Fantasy game ever with the original FF7 at the moment so I can play Remake intergade and Crisis Core just because Rebirth looks so good to me. So I haven't played Ever Crisis but did watch a compilation of the cutscenes from the mobile game. I knew before even FINISHING Remake that you needed more than just knowledge of OG FF VII and the Remake trilogy. Lesley and others were additions from the two books released set in the FF VII universe "The Kid's Aren't Alright" and "Tale Of Two Pasts". It has been clear since around half way through Remake that the goal of the Remake trilogy is to try and as neatly as possible tie together ALL the media of FF VII together from the OG game all the way through Ever Crisis and newer media from the same universe.

I am picking this one up for the first in years. I remember Final Fantasy 7 and thinking it was a great game of its time which got my interest in the franchise again. I am really trying to expand my turn based combat in the future. Currently, off Matty’s advice. I am playing Grand Blue Fantasy with my son and the first two chapters are promising. A big thank you to Matty who for years has worn me down to giving JRPG’s a chance.

But after I played the original then played Remake I heard where the game ended and I thought "oh this is going to be really short or really padded out" , but then was surprised by its length and how well paced it was for me. They added new main quest stuff which I was satisfied with. And maybe the reason I didn't have an issue with pacing was because I did every single side quest, so I wasn't as worried about pacing. And chances are with Rebirth I will approach it the same way. As Im replaying Remake now again Im doing every side quest once again and the game has been flying by for me. My first 10 hours have only felt like 2 hours and I just can't get enough and can't wait for Rebirth!

The midgard part in og ff7 was not 2-3 hours short that’s ridiculous , maybe on playthrough 3 or 4 when you skip all the dialogue and know how to do all puzzles and bosses or use the speed up modifier in the remaster I‘ve spent 2 hours in the Shinra building alone the first time

As someone who played the og FF7 after remake, I feel like people forget just how rough the pacing of the original is as well. Several times during my playthrough, I'd feel like it was building up to some big story moment, only to get sidetracked by some random quest. Not to mention the grinding through random encounters or the tedium of trying to backtrack through the map to find some key person or item you missed. Remake definitely had pacing issues as well, but at least the gameplay kept it engaging throughout, and the added length gave key story moments more room to breathe (I was surprised how little of an impact the sector 5 slums had in the original). Anyway, so if the gameplay is good, the pacing issues don't really bother me all the much. It's just par for the course with the series.

Triple Triad.....that is the reason for me giving Queen's Blood a try. I have a hell of a time popping in Final Fantasy VIII, and NOT getting sucked into countless hours of Triple Triad. Queens Blood is now a close second as a favorite card game. I think I am only missing the Gilgamesh and Ultimate Party Animal cards. But those are for my second go through. I like Rebirth, except for the fact that there are too many riddles, mandatory mini-games, and party locks that prevent you from using Cloud. Additionally, the chapters of Cosmo Canyon and the Temple of the Ancients are too long, and the final battles are too long without a break for a save point.

I was optimistic, but got a bit nervous after seeing reviewers praising this game since it reminded me of ff16. I absolutely felt like my time was wasted in 16, but then I remember that you felt the same and your review is spot on on how I feel about the game. What are some aspects of 16 that you didn’t like? I’m asking this question so that we can see if you will like rebirth or not. Rebirth has pacing issues like 16, but hopefully it won’t be as bad as that for example. If it’s combat, they are both vastly different as rebirth is way more strategic and it includes a lot more rpg elements than 16.

I honestly think I'm too old for these games anymore. I loved the original FF7. It was my intro into RPGs. It was the first game I can remember clocking in over 100 hours on. It was the first game I bought and played when I bought a Playstation and that Playstation was the first console I bought with my own money. I played the the first game in the remake trilogy and honestly felt completely indifferent to it. I hated the combat. Hated the liberties they took with the story. If you are a long time fane of FF7, what do you think of the remake? If you like it, what about it do you like?

Og fan here. I loved it. I like them trying something new or expanded with the story. It almost feels like meta writting and that the fans dont want changes and that is what the ghost things represent. Is not wanting things to change and the story is softly pushing against that narrative of what we expect and leaves us hard core fans with something new to discover rather than just playing the exact same thing again.

I liked FFVII, but never finished it (but I know the story) and I preferred VI and IX, and played several others. I love Remake. I have questions and concerns about it throughout, which I could detail if I felt like it, but I generally loved it. It did feel like the prologue, and not just in plot, but most to all of its systems, but I was interested in what the scope of a trilogy would lead to, instead of feeling betrayed, raging, etc. The combat is one of my favorite, but with rough edges. I like pure remakes too. I don't mind the occasional twist and WTFery, depending on what it is, and this one jived more for me then others may have. I want to see Rebirth circle things back around to the Planet and concern for humanity existing with it though, and if big D Destiny is a whole layer of narrative now, I want it more organically woven in, but I'm not against as haters call it 'time jannies' in itself. Final Fantasy started with time loops and weirdness, I really don't care, I just want to feel better about it for FFVII which had almost none of its narrative connected to that subject. I'm reaching middle age, I feel mortality already and have all sorts of bigger and more impactful concerns about myself and the world than online feuding about a video game. Instead of just wanting the most ideal slop put in front of me, I say challenge me, show me interesting and new things, twist up the old sometimes. I'll critique but otherwise calm down and check things out. FFVII Remake trilogy is perfect about that. Its committing to its gimmick and I'll just laugh about it and see. I love the EN voice acting besides Zack. I love the warmth put into the best part of Remake, I don't think its purely about the money, just it certainly was the kickstart, but it definitely has a lot of care and senior reflection on the 1997 project. That's cool to me. When I want to run faster outside, I put on Remake's mix of the bike chase. Works wonders :).

Don’t like the changes their making to the original FF7 - overcomplicating the story to make more money on sequel games by introducing multiple timelines is a typical example of the way the gaming industry’s greed has overshadowed good storytelling. The overall theme of the story behind the original FF7 is going to be delivered in a messier manner, which I really dislike. It dilutes the actual message behind the original story.

I hope its like FFXIII where once you get to archelyte steppe you really start to lose yourself in the music, the moment and you never let it go.
