I thought we already had an FF7 remake, in how many games are they splitting the plotline?

It's going to be three games apparently. They wanted to split the storyline into a trilogy. I think because of how long the storyline is supposed to be so they didn't want to rush it? Or it is because Square Enix wants to make more money off of FF7 Remake's success.
