Cloud talks to the Receptionist (0:51). 0:58 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Ifrit Blaze", a Silver Race (1:05). The Grade II races are named after summons. They are also longer than the Grade III races. "The Ifrit Blaze" introduces springboards that can carry racers over obstacles. You have to approach the springboard's button head-on to use the device. Cloud finishes in first place (6:29). For winning "The Ifrit Blaze", he earns an Ether and 210 Gold Saucer Points. For 3 first-time Silver Race wins, Cloud is promoted to the Gold jockey rank. He can now compete in the Gold Cup, though he will have to accept Billy's quest before he can register. The Gold Races in Grade II are unlocked. 6:47 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (7:01). 7:08 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Shiva Icefields", a Silver Race (7:14). Look out for the hazards and obstructions, including Bomb balloons and Cactuar Gates. Cloud finishes in first place (11:34). For winning "The Shiva Icefields", he earns a Hi-Ether and 225 Gold Saucer Points. 11:50 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (12:02). 12:11 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Leviathan Riptide", a Gold Race (12:16). From here on, it is helpful to memorize the locations and placements of the various hazards and obstacles. Cloud finishes in first place (17:13). Hazards abound on this track. After some flubs, Cloud retries and starts "The Ramuh Bolt" again (23:20). This time, Cloud finishes in first place (28:25). For winning "The Ramuh Bolt", he earns a Turbo Ether and 300 Gold Saucer Points. 28:40 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (28:54). 29:00 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Titan Slam", a Gold Race (29:05). This track has plenty of hazards to ensnare racers. However, there is also a shortcut, and there are a couple of springboards. Cloud finishes in first place (33:12). For winning "The Titan Slam", he earns a pair of Hermes Shoes and 315 Gold Saucer Points. The Hermes Shoes grant the wearer auto-Haste at the beginning of battle. For 3 first-time Gold Race wins, Cloud is promoted to the Legend jockey rank. The Legend Races in Grade II are unlocked. 33:33 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (34:08). 34:16 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Kujata Stampede", a Gold Race (34:20). More fun with obstacles awaits. Cloud finishes in first place (39:48). For winning "The Kujata Stampede", he earns 3 pieces of Dark Matter and 330 Gold Saucer Points. 40:08 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (40:22). 40:28 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Odin Straights", a Legend Race (40:33). The Legend Races are loaded with hazards, and the competition is stiff. Be careful of a few right-angle turns. Cloud finishes in first place (45:17). For winning "The Odin Straights", he earns the Hyperion's Helm and 390 Gold Saucer Points. The Hyperion's Helm is chocobo headgear. 45:33 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (45:47). 45:54 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Alexander Siege", a Legend Race (45:58). He gives Piko the Hyperion's Helm. Then, he starts "The Alexander Siege" (46:09). This is where things start to get ridiculous with the excessive number of hazards and obstacles. Cloud finishes in first place (51:26). For winning "The Alexander Siege", he earns the Hyperion's Armor and 405 Gold Saucer Points. The Hyperion's Armor is chocobo chest gear. 51:42 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (51:56). 52:03 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Phoenix Trial", a Legend Race (52:06). He gives Piko the Hyperion's Armor. Then, he starts "The Phoenix Trial" (52:12). This is another tough one with lots of obstructions. However, a couple of potential long jumps can be a boon to the player. Cloud finishes in first place (56:57). For winning "The Phoenix Trial", he earns the Hyperion's Shin Guards and 420 Gold Saucer Points. The Hyperion's Shin Guards are chocobo leg gear. 57:13 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square After saving, Cloud talks to the Receptionist again (57:27). 57:34 - Chocobo Race - Grade II Cloud enters "The Bahamut Skirmish", a Legend Race (57:37). Rather than Piko, he will ride Fango of Gongaga, who has the Chocojump ability. He equips Fango with the Hyperion's Helm, Hyperion's Armor, and Hyperion's Shin Guards. Then, he starts "The Bahamut Skirmish" (58:00). Whoever dreamed up this course was some kind of sadist. It is littered with all manner of obstructions. With Fango, though, the rider can use Chocojump (if charged) to jump over some obstructions, notably the tricky Cactuar Gates in the latter part of the course. I also found Fango a little faster than Piko. There are some helpful jumps in the course, if you take advantage of them. Cloud finishes in first place (1:04:10). For winning "The Bahamut Skirmish", he earns a pair of Time Materia Earrings and 450 Gold Saucer Points. The Time Materia Earrings give the wearer use of the spells Haste, Slow, and Stop. Cloud has won every Grade II chocobo race. Whew! 1:04:25 - Gold Saucer - Chocobo Square The party saves. Next time, the party will work on Billy's quest and race in the Gold Cup.
