i think that the best part of all these series is that I get to hear someone else try to pronounce all these areas and gear out loud. I didn't really have any friends that played FFXI so I've never really heard any of these names pronounced. I'm glad to hear other people struggle with some area names as well! haha

I remember the Sea Horror. Was brand new to the game getting my subjob item quest done and of course he appears. Luckily I was with my real life friend who got me into FFXI who was a 75 BLM and he saved me. I ran like hell while he called for help and the entire boats worth of people attacked it together lol. As for real life animals in FFXI there's a ton of birds flying through the air no one really notices unless you spend hours in a zone. FFXI was chock-full of hidden features like that. It's why I consider it a masterpiece.

Yeah the birds are nuts! I never even really thought about it, but like we fight birds all the time haha. That's an awesome story about the sea horror though, such a crazy NM. but yeah it's the little details that make it amazing for sure

4:22 You should check out Chochoroon's FFXI scenery videos. They have Japanese titles, but it's just full of tons of small details in the environment like those dolphins. Did you know there's an NPC in Selina that flips a sign depending on where the boat is headed to? You definitely need to watch those videos. New subscriber, love the high quality modern FFXI videos! I played a ton from around the NA release to WotG, and I've been getting back into it lately.

8:43 my new fav aggro noise. I actually wanted that Z.Ring! (I'll just use an acronym for it to make it sound cooler!) I wanted to be able to solo the Up In Arms BCNM and wanted as much MP+ gear I could find. Never did find Zoredonite though... I DID get his rare raft-ride counterpart, Stubborn Dredvodd, whom I equally camped for its MP Ring which I got! Guild was like "...So what?" when I told them I got that ring. :C

Couple things: Noble Mold (level 50) and Taisaijin (level 63) are super neat too. I felt that those 2 hats were like badges of honor that said, "Yes I will camp a stupidly rare and useless item just because its RARE!" Also, unsure how or if you could, but I recently got Dragon Quest 8 for my Nintendo DS and its super fun with NMs and such (just like it was on PS2...but it sadly came out during the height of my FFXI playing). That led to an idea>>> You should do a series: "Games you may have missed due to MMOs." I think you are super creative and your production has gotten better and better, btw grats on 3k Subs! My idea for "game you may have missed", maybe pick games that came out during the height of FFXI and FFXIV ARR? Maybe games that are on XBox Live or PSN or that have been re-released?

I've kinda looked at the dragon quest games from afar with curiosity, has it been fun? And that's an awesome video series idea! I remember fighting Zoredonite with my friend way way back when COP was new (around 2005 or 2006) when we were taking a trip to Purogogo for COP missions. The boat was pretty packed too. We did not wipe, but did not beat him before the boat trip ended. I also agree that mobs like the Sea Horror goes to the core of old FFXI, random, rare NMs in newbie areas and boat rides that become legendary because of the destruction they cause.

yeah he was tough to kill, even if you could "outlast" him, because of the short boat ride. and haha ya, I remember being legitimately afraid of the boat in ffxi

I remember seeing that uragnite NM 0 times and I used to farm the heck out of clot plasma on that island. I do remember the eft NM on the dock to there though. Killed him over 20 times probably but never got the good drop.

demonic tiphia does in fact drop after doing final sting. I've gotten the drop while eating that attack plenty of times.

2-part question. 1) What level did SCH obtain the Rainstorm spell back in the day? 2) Could Rainstorm (or other Storm spells) activate the aspects of weather gear like the Monsoon kyahan? I mean, I would still assume that's still kinda bad since you'd have to rely on a SCH for the special aspects of gear, or nowadays going /SCH just for that.. but still. I'm kinda curious

Dunno, if you'll still read this, but you uploaded so many vids and I had so few time that it is just now that I saw this video because I'm tryin to still watch them all and in order ^^'. Anyways, back when you did the lower level NMs, I didn't know you yet, so I don't know if my favorite NM so far has been listed, but I wanted to write a little about it anyways ^^. Cause my favourite NM is the Tumbling Truffle (probably also because I haven't fought that many of them yet). One day, I just decided to go and fight it. I killed so many Funguars until I got it and then fought my first NM. I got the Funguar Hat on first try as well ^^ Since then I love this piece of gear so much that I still wear it, now being a Lvl 50 xD.

Random "Real Life" Animals in FFXI? The eagles perched above your head in Bone Yard Gully comes to mind. There's like a half dozen all around the BCNM zone.

I was(am) an avid fisherman and basically lived on the ferry if I wasn't fishing in SSG back in the day. I'll never forget killing that damn Sea Horror as a 74 WHM/NIN the first time. Revenge was sooo sweet.

similar NM that you can only get if you fish on the Manaclipper; Harajnite. Drops the harajinite shell that you need to craft the Igqira Huaraches.

I was deeply familiar with both Sea Horror and Black beard on the boat from the days when I was fishing on the ferry daily. I would watch new players get massacred all the time but since I was always on whm when fishing there because of teleports I would give them a raise if they didn't homepoint to quickly.

at 75 i used to farm the Demonic Tiphia for the drop with my THF friend as a NIN/WHM and PLD/something i cannot recall its been so long but it took so long to kill it with its heal. I know after a while i had to help my roomate kill him, he wouldnt die but also couldn't kill him due to his heal, i may have actually had to come as 75DRK/WHM for heals and interupts on the heal move. Edit: i do remember us getting him to pop only to take over a half hour to kill it lol. fun times

yes and no :( playing here and there, but mostly for what you see in the videos. I haven't made any actual "progress" in months, been caught up with puppy stuff and FFXIV. I want to get back to it soon though, but with the FFXIV expansion comin in a couple months...might be tough. I'm still not done rhapsodies either though! I want to finish it up

I remember once i hit 61 I think on my RDM and finally got Phalanx I went back to kill the sea horror just because I hated him. I also liked messing with people on the boat, asking them if they had swimming leveled because the boat was going to crash and sink.

+Frank Rawr not sure! I'm on Odin unfortunately, but if it's active anywhere it's on Asura haha, sounds like the most popular server by far. Ballista was fun but I never got super into pvp in FFXI so Im probably not the best reference

I never got that pirate NM, but on my lil whm, I was fishing while on the boat, to pass the time. Just as the ship starts getting closer, guess what I pull up! :'D The Sea Horror!! It kills me, but luckily we also zoned, so no one else got munched on. And there was a fellow whm there who could raise me. Phew! (I think a similar version of this story happened to me on my way to Whitegate. o.o Moral of story is I should not go fishing on ferries.)

Taisaijin lvl 60-63 from Ranguemont pass. Back in the day everyone thought the Spelunker's hat must have a good hidden effect / stat because how could a one piece of gear be so bad and worthless.
