Finding out the Tower of Babil was in this gave me a nostalgia high just like you, but what set me off ever harder was seeing WarMonger, the Hunt target that is a modern rendition of WarMech from FF1. That gave me a chill that ran all the way up my spine then back down to my toes.

This when the expansion takes off its gloves, from here on it’s brutal. I feel Quintus’ suicide was the turning point, it felt raw specially in a setting where we are used to seeing characters do spectacular almost superheroes feats, so for Quintus to die like he did shook me, I didnt expect the game to go there and it did. Also Soken remixed Home Beyond The Horizon a as radio song that evoke WWII imagery was an incredible touch that adds a lot to the scenes in this zone. The song permeates the entire zone and it’s used to amazing results. This and Elpis were my favorite arcs in the expansion.

I was sad tower of babil didn't have the tower of babil song from FF4, but it was still an excellent track. Garlemald was an incredible zone.

The funny thing about Sicard & Zenos is both characters are voiced by a single VA. Luke Allen-Gale is so talented that he can change his voice & accent from an edgy, sexy “villain” to a sky pirate.

Speaking of Zenos's voice actor, did you know he's also the pirate Sicard? What a range. Little Sun, you lost your dignity when Y'shtola roasted you in StB. Give it up. That sad song is actually a remix of the big bombastic Garlemald theme we've been hearing since 2.0. They've been indoctrinatred to believe all non-Garleans are just waiting for the opportunity to hurt them. That line about children freezing along in the snow came from Ysayle all the way back in Heavensward I think. I enjoyed the freakout all the soldiers had when thet realized who we were. Now we know why during the escort he refused to believe the tempered could be saved. Finding out he killed his family in self defense when a way to save them existed... Remember all the way back in Coils Alisaie admitted she was only fighting for Eorzea because that's what her grandfather Louisoix would've wanted? The conclusion of that character arc. Now we know what they used the ceruleum for instead of keeping their people from freezing. Now you know why that music track traumatizes us.

Those girls didn't commit suicide. They never would have left the house if that was their intent, they could have done it then and there. They were attempting to flee and were attacked by the wildlife, as Alisaie explicitly states in the dialogue. That's why there was a blood trail to follow. If they had say... slit their wrists, they would have just leaned against a tree or rock and let the end come, not continue to run leaving a trail.

I felt in my playthrough, I was frustrated with Quintes, when he took the easy way out. By no means am I making light of his act or the heavy weight in doing so, but rather how he did it in a way that left his own people high and dry. Especially since they're going to need assistance to adjust to a post-Garlean world and having some sense of trusted leadership would help ease them into that status quo. But no, It wasn't meant to be. He didn't do it for his country or his people, he honestly in my opinion just did it for himself. Regardless of my take on it, it definitely is a dark moment when you consider the subject matter, and even I had a hard time swallowing it.

Grim, dark, depressing, cold and unforgiving the feelings of this area. The people resilient and prideful to a fault. When you are taught all your life that you are superior, right and all else is misguided and barbaric, that everyone other than your own countrymen is out to get you it's hard to break those chains of thoughts.

_"In my misbegotten youth"_ ....Alphinaud, you're 16, lol. Real talk though, I had a lot of strong feelings about the conversation between the twins. There's a lot there that calls back to their comments to Emet about how we don't need to make villains in every case out of those who miss when the world was theirs, but in the end the world _has_ to be allowed to move forward and we need to listen to younger voices who grew up in the current world and not dismiss them just for lack of experience. I believe it in general, but also specifically I get that a lot at work from older coworkers who are sometimes too quick with the "that's just not how we do it" or "you just don't understand" lines. I care a lot about the twins as someone older than them, but I also find I often resonate with them a ton as a "young person" in many environments. Yeah....lots of strong feelings about their conversation. I love getting scenes where we see them trying to make sense out of very complicated the world.

This scene sucks for those of us whom play healers. I mean WRU resurrections abilities when you need them.

Lore wise, your raises are just bringing people back from the brink. Whenever you wipe in content, you just have a vision of a possible future through the Echo. Everybody who drops just faints and is on the brink of death, not actually dead. There is no true resurrection in FF14. At least not through any known healing magic. It's a bit like dropping to 0 HP in a game of D&D for example.

@@jamesderbutler Which leads into a more disturbing lore item of the game. Presumably it is the use of aether that you can heal, thus, as we've seen in the storyline, the use or projection of aether from individuals like in the fight against Emit Selch and such............and when one dies, you return to a larger stream or the planet which then can one day be reborn into a different individual....thus very heavily implying that we are all of the same aether, we are all a mix or each other's power of life. Disturbing I say because it emulates Reincarnatoin...but with a twist.
