It's looking good Andy👍, I'm not sure if you know, the price of electricity in the UK has just jumped up because a price cap has been removed, the price has gone up from around £0.20p per KW to £0.30p+ with a further increase later in the year we also pay a daily standing charge for the meter of about £0.30p. I've been totally off grid for nearly 3 years and now starting to plan a new house build, with the cost to connect to the gridd, the cost per kw and standing charges, combined with our 3 years experience so far, I'm seriously tempted to add some extra batteries and panels and carry on without the gridd power, I've got just under 4kw of panels and a 15kwh battery, even with the modest UK Sun we are full well before lunch time and the system is just on float all afternoon.
@brendancronin71862 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Similar electricity price jumps in Ireland. Just finished a 5kw Growatt installation, 8 x 450W pv panels and 5kva LFP battery. Reduced daytime grid electricity consumption by 70-80%. Dumping excess pv energy into an EV. Need to increase battery storage capacity. Keep up the good work reducing/eliminating use of fossil fuels. Regards Brendan

Awesome!! Boy does the battery 2.0 look so good! The blue of the LFP cells matches the Victron equipment. Good choice! I think to charge it you just have to be conservative with how much power you use, it will charge eventually as long as your load doesnt excede the solar input.

Thank you. It took me 6 days to fully charge and top balance it now. Lots to observe and learn from that. Videos are coming soon.

@@OffGridGarageAustralia sweet! I wonder if the slightly different chemistries peak differently 300 vs 280 long life. Sooo next step is for more solar and charge controllers??

Very good! That's exactly what I want to hear and read! Inspiring people is the main goal here.

I definitely enjoy your meticulous approach to design and build. If I were doing this I'd add some portable folding pv's to get to 100% SOC. And only use the extras when needed on occasion. Shouldn't be too often considering your usage.

Great build Andy, you have given me so many ideas. I wont be "BENDED" i'll bent the bus-bars. Hahahahaha. Now you need to run an underground cable to the house and run your fridge freezer and lights off your system unofficially of cause.

Thanks, Peter. That's exactly the purpose of this channel. Inspire others and put ideas in peoples heads. It's another 6 years until I can connect the house. Plenty of time to keep going, learn and build more...

Moin, thanks for the laughs and fears. Hooking up my system in 2 weeks. 16kwh EvE's batt. Vic mp2 5000. And a ac thor for hot water. The misses made a data sheet and we aim for 9 month's self sufficiency in our north German climate. Now a good woodgas generator would be a goal. But that's a whole story on it's own. Thanks again for showing me all your hard work and mistakes for free. You gave me trust to go do it myself. Like your open attitude and grin, happly watching your facial expressions. Your funny to me. Greets, Liebe Grüße,

The system is well designed and done by you Andy with the thankful help of us You Tubers . It seems to be running 🏃♀️ well and with a few tweaks , it’ll be about 100 % in operation . All you need is to maybe change the smaller capatible inverter for the exact same bigger inverter on the left and it will be at or over 100% operation. May the solar be with you .

Hi my friend from "the off grid garage" since you use the Victron inverter I am hoping you would review the "Seplos" bms line I would love to see you use that product. Thank you ,carry on.
@OffGridGarageAustralia2 жыл бұрын
Hi James. Thanks for your comment. Why would you want to connect the BMS to the inverter? The Victron inverters (like most others) have their own setting you can utilise for that and it will shutdown your load before the battery gets critical low if this is what you want to achieve.

I wanna do a backup like that, that will run my internet and my sim rig so I don’t have to worry about power outages

You can go a lot smaller like this then, depending on your load.

That is a great build. That is a lot of power 44kw. You can donate to me your old battery in the bin, it would come in very handy with the current power cuts in South Africa 🇿🇦, we go for 6hrs without power every day. If I had that battery, I would be off grid.

Hi Andrew. I still need the 'old' battery. We will soon repair it and bring it back to life.

Very nice! 4kwh solar is TONNES! what is daily use? I average 800kwh a month. or about 27kwh a Day. about 500watt 24/7 with servers/computers.
@OffGridGarageAustralia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mitch. I'm using between 5-30kWh a day depending if I can charge the vehicle from the battery as well. We're almost in Winter down here and the production has shrunk from 20kWh/day in summer to 5-6kWh/day now. 800kWh is a lot you're producing. How large is your solar array?
