The best U-17 men's team ever by a country mile. Health, life and situations permitting, these 12 players all seem destined for the NBA, and multiple should be All-Stars and probably Hall of Famers. I have never seen a youth team with this much bursting potential, even during the golden generation of 2002-2007.

I like what I saw from these kids. Made it an emphasis to get to the basket and not rely on jumpers. Effort to to play defense as well from them shooting mid ranges. Good to see the fundamentals being taught again in the youth ranks.
@faceurhell6 ай бұрын
I think most important throughout this tournament is they did not rely on their diverse offensive skills, but also their communication, teamwork, focus on rebounding, defensive effort, and pushing the pace to get easy basketballs. They leveraged superior mentality, speed, and swift decision-making to get major advantages that no other team could run with. When you have that edge before you throw in superior offensive talents and athletic abilities... winning goes from a goal to an expectation.
@StylistecS6 ай бұрын

This is what USA Basketball needs to do. Start working on Olympics 8-12 years from now by starting them out at 17 and just keep moving them along. Some of them won't make it to the NBA, but enough of them will to keep feeding fresh players into the upcoming Olympic teams.

This is what the USA has been doing for the past 30 years... You forget USA has not lost the Olympics since 04.
@collectivecore82686 ай бұрын
It’s not like we haven’t been doing that. You do realize that the US has dominated these competitions, 51-0 in U17 because we have a deep and talented player base. Once the competition gets to the world or Olympic level other countries have a lot more players to chose from… so you could have a starting 5 of ages 20-38. All they need is 5 really good pro players and the world evens out the competition. Also by that time, our best players have been developing their games to adapt to NBA rules and the world players have been playing Fiba/Euro style basketball for years.

Last year in u19 the usa got blown out by turkey for the 3rd place game and hasn't won a medal in the last 2 world cups. It's not hard to understand, the usa just can't keep winning with their second string talent, they need their best if they want to stay dominant, no one is trying to argue that the world is as good as the best players in the usa

Got some talent on that Italy team for sure. Italy basketball fans should be proud of these young men, they showed a lot of gut and talents. Sadly, they ran into the most talented U-17 team America has ever assembled, by a very very wide margin. Against any other past USA team this would have been much closer. Hopefully this motivates these Italian young men to push themselves up to higher and higher levels, so we can see some of them compete in senior national play and the NBA as well.
