As I posted above, I'd watched the 82 Indy 500 the day it happened, and the 92 Indy 500 live. Like you, I had been an F1 fan for decades, getting up super early to watch live on the west coast for years and years. Well, that stopped a while ago with all the manufactured entertainment, mandated bore spacing on engine blocks, mandated everything, and all the pro-cheating driver and team FIA "rules". Yesterday's Indy 500 was definitely one of the great events I've watched, 82, 92 Indy 500 included, 1990 Mexican GP, and so many others included. GREAT stuff!

As a race as a whole which had ups and downs from start to finish, Canadian GP 2011 gets my vote. And i might be bias been a Button fan. Ive been watching indy since when mansell went there in, was it 92 or 93? and won the championship as a rookie, there are a few races that are stuck into my mind, but nothing that sticks right out. (Apart from Dan Wheldons death in 2011 for all the wrong reasons) Hit me hard and i didnt watch indycar for a few years after that. On two wheels, freakily enough, which was also 2011, BSB, Tommy hill V John hopkins, that last lap is absolute insane. Check it out on youtube if you've not.

If you have never been to the speedway and the 500, television just cannot capture the speed and enormity of the race. Indy has to be experienced in person, there is nothing like it. Recommend coming so you can take in Carb Day (the day before the race), Saturday before the race (legends day... the drivers meeting is public, and the garages are open... no pass required and have to go in the museum). Then the climax and finale is race day.

Newgarden must have channeled Rick Mears on that pass. Reminds me of how Michael Andretti passed Rick for the lead with 15 laps to go in 1991 on the outside in the short chute. One of the TOUGHEST and most DANGEROUS passes to make. Just one lap later, Rick said, "Nah, bruh. I'm gettin' number 4 today," and passed Michael on the outside going into the short chute. IndyCar is not quite at the level it was in the glory days of CART, but it's getting real, REAL close.

That’s way too long in traffic!! Fortunately we have learned a few “shortcuts” that for now still work. Our time driving and in traffic time was barely over an hour. . T1 T2 seats. Parked in Dotlitch parking. $80 per vehicle Sometimes you unfortunately get on a road that leads to IMS where an accident “fender bender”happenes up ahead and that will bring traffic to a stop. Some suggestions. 1 Don’t use directions from the google maps or Waze. They will have directions showing green or “ low traffic volume” corridor leading to IMS. They are likely showing streets that are closed to non credential vehicles. (Busses escorts only) 2 obviously leaving early is always best choice. Spend the extra time tailgating and meeting other fans. Best choice! 2 Search IMS or local private companies that offfer on site parking for race that is near your seats. The passes usually come with directions to parking. and “special” access for streetsas you near track. . . 3 there are pick-up locations for Shuttle services that have designated routes to get you there more quickly and easily. But you won’t be tailgating. But regardless leave early whether you have park pass or using neighborhood parking. Btw Parking passes sell out quickly. IMS and Indy try to improve traffic and parking each year . If you get the IMS post race questionnaire email be sure to include your experience/ complaint. I hate to see anyone miss any part of the pre race and or race. Fortunately it was delayed. from rain..otherwise you would been cutting way too close. Better travels next year! 🏁

Well, my favorite overtake of all time was the 1983 Indy 500 when Tom Sneva overtook both Little Al and Big Al. Big Al was in the lead, followed by Little Al who was fives lap down, then Sneva who was in second. For any laps, Little Al had been intentionally blocking Sneva fron overtaking his dad. Then with like 12 or so laps to go, Sneva overtook them both on the same lap (as well as overtaking slower traffic), and went on to win gowing away.

I don’t know how you could ask for more! Absolutely legendary pass down the backstretch by Newgarden, but gutted for Pato he’s been so close!

I'm a die-hard Pato fan, and I am gutted, but Josef made an insane move, hats off to him.

The pass at the white flag, then O'Ward's desperate attempt at shaking off Newgarden, then the pass on the outside going into the turn! Amazing!!!

Roger Penske will go down as one of the greatest racing figures ever. Period. I’m new to Indy racing, but as a die hard part of the Porsche family, Penske is a true icon, the second the Indy 500 ended. He was on the phone making calls to prep for Le Mans, I promise you. This guys every breath is spent on racing.

Larson the fastest man on pit road 😎

lol, but I thought Larson did pretty well though, besides that pit road error.

next year race should bring in great ratings...people seeing if there will be a 'Triple Crown'..
@blakecharles45017 ай бұрын
The triple crown in racing is actually a different thing. Indy 500 win, Monaco gp win, 24 hours of Le Mans win

Thank Josef Newgarden for the best Indy500 I’ve ever witnessed! You are truly a CHAMPION! This was worth the wait! INDYCAR + Chevy + Newgarden = WINNER

FANTASTIC RACE 🏁. I love Indy Car Racing 😁

Wish PATO waited a tadddd bit longer to make a pass but josef absolutely stuck that outside line perfect. Blocking would’ve probably caused a massive wreck. Gutted

IndyCar needs more high speed ovals.

They could do with one, maybe two more (this assuming Texas is back on the schedule next year... it was a victim of the Olympics this year). But, man, these tracks are high risk so I wouldn't want too many on the schedule. Losing Michigan many years back sucked. One of the best races I attended was there, when Michael Andretti and Montoya were wheel to wheel in the last few closing laps.
