can you make a video about light cycles for cactus? like do you create seasons and cycles like outdoor grows? if you grow indoors do you need to make them dormant or give them long hours of light every day of the year? and how many hours of light in what season when recreating indoors?

I've loved all of your seedling series, it makes the prospect of starting cacti from seeds much more approachable. I'd love to see an update on how all those monstrose seedlings are doing now. Hopefully they've retained their unusual rib formation as they've matured.

Superb walk-through & great results. I currently use LUMii EnviroGro T5 Fixture with T5 Ho Tube Fluorescent Grow Light which can be costly. Just curious as to whether or not your energy consumption i.e. electricity was significantly reduced having moving from using T5 & using LED. Thank you always .🙏

hi jerry :) you know, i subcribed your channel since about a year now. i began with growing cacti last year and found you and you helped me with a lot tipps! i already could survive some of mine also and so i started a new batch a month ago :) i already have trichocereus peruvianus, trichocereus pachanoi, lophophora williamsii, some lithops, aloe and other mixed cacti... i also bought a big williamsii, i guess about 8 years, but because i dont have a cool place to get them into winter mood, i tried to get them all survive under a led light like you too! mine is much smaller, its about 50w... so now my williamsii looks a little yellowish for me (i just realized it, when i took it under the sun last weekend). i guess i under nutritioned it a bit :/ what would you suggest me to do before i get it dead :(

I'm glad my tips were useful! The change of color is probably not linked to a lack of nutriments, more likely due to the grow light. If it's a cheap lamp, maybe it's not a full spectrum and the light has not been ideal?... Probably under sunlight it will recover a more normal color.
@kaneco.2218

@@sanpedromastery6262 its not a cheap one, its full spectrum growlight, if you want to check it out yourself its the sanlight q1w :) i am about to buy a second one to have about 100w so the babies can grow better :) you know, i guess i am very convinced it has to do something with nutrition :/ i will try to cure it with horsetsil extract. and in a few weeks i will begin with usual bio fertilizer again. and yes, your tips are absolutely great! i am little jealous because of your great lighting, sunny balkony and great collection of beautiful cacti :P

I've had a 4 month old seedling under a 200w CFL and it hasn't grown at all in 2 months. Is it too much light? I had it about 12in above the seedling, but moved it to 18in away to see if it helps. It's been healthy green but just hasn't grown AT ALL.

At what speed should we expect growth? How much per month or per year for example?
@sanpedromastery6262
@sanpedromastery6262 3 жыл бұрын
About 1" tall after 6 months, 2" or 3" after 12 months. Then afterwards, double or triple every year until adult. Adult can grow 12" a year. These figures can vary a lot depending on the species, watering, light, feeding, etc.
@DGRIFF

@sanpedromastery6262 this makes sense. I was given a seedling that was about 4-6 months old and just under 2 inches. It hasn't grown at all in the last 2 months since I repotted and put under a 200w CFL light. I'm guessing it's focused on rooting the first year before it starts pushing nutrients into growth.

@@shaynlariviere5687 you get more light from a LED watt for watt which means they can cover a bigger area. More and more commercial grows are going LED. I used a 600w HPS for 14 years and now use a eight COB for the same area. Another benefit is there is no heat. The problem is finding the right LED and the right environment for growing under LED.

I started a mix of your seeds under a 4 tube T5 and most turned pink. I had to move to low power “clone” led lights and after several months they recovered: first the pachanoi, then the bridge, then the Lophs. I noticed something major: how much light they can take depends on the fertility of the soil. Without at least some fertilizer, the growth is stunted and they cannot take the light. With light fertilizer they green up and expand much easier, and take more light. For now on I’ll always start with light fertilizer.

Hi Jerry. Good to have you back. I also struggled with green moss and I think its because I also use rainwater. When it hits the roof and flows down it is already contaminated. It helped a lot to just spread a thin layer of sand on top of the surface of my seedling trays.
