Would have loved to be on this last flight. Thank-you for sharing. I was lucky enough to fly on an AA MD80 from DFW to YYC years ago in First Class. Loved it.

It was a bittersweet flight. I too wish everyone could’ve been on the flight, but sadly only 140 people got that privilege. At least people can go back and watch my video to experience the flight for themselves, and as long as KZbin is around it will be there for people to enjoy.

Skylite Productions The most emotional aircraft retirement for me will be when AA finally retires the 757! Gotta love the pencil jet! I really hope boeing will build a replacement for it.

@@cancelanime1507 Sadly the 757's retired early without much fanfare. At least some airlines in the US and Icelandair among others still use it! Looks like Boeing is considering a 757+ concept! I'd love to see it come back. Same with the 767, so many memories in that aircraft.

Hi Skylite, This video is one of of the best. To hear the pilots remarks his experience with the MD80, prying the yoke out of his hands. I felt the for the guy. I miss the old " mad dogs "like all good things must come to an end. Now it's sitting in the desert rotting away, what a shame. Thanks for sharing friend.

Yes, sadly, all good things come to an end. And the MD-80 was definitely a good thing. I loved flying on them, and there were people in tears by the time the captain’s comments were finished. Luckily though, I was on this flight, so as long as KZbin is around this flight will live on, and people can always come back and take a ride on them again.

What a cool speech! Kudos to the entire crew and you lucky passengers. I go back to the DC-9 of the mid 70’s and flew on an MD-80 more than any other type so far in my life. Out of MSP I am lucky to still be able to ride on Delta’s B717 which is a little rocket ship and of course the MD’s little brother. RIP and a job well done our loyal Mad Dog!

The most comfortable of all rides! Nothing like kicking back in the rear window seat with a cigarette and a whiskey. Wait.. Delta still fly a lot of MD88s and MD90s. Also the 717. They only recently retired the original DC-9.

@@sla31 Sheesh, many flights have been canceled around the world. I'm planning to fly to Baltimore in May because of some robotic conference, which does use the MD-90 from Atlanta, which is a connecting city if I use Delta. May still be some MD-90's.

* Disclaimer - It never hurts to dream big. With that said... * The market is great now for purchasing an MD-80 series model. Prices as low as $3 Million are available. However the initial cost is only a fractional part of the aircraft's overall expenses. Annually you'd probably have to spend 10% - 20% of the purchase price (very rough estimate) for maintenance and fuel. Obviously less if infrequently used. I'm definitely not an expert in aircraft economics. Other expenses such as insurance, storage, and crew for hire have to be factored in. If money were not an issue and you purchased a very old, used ,and large jet (such as a 35 year old MD-83) for $5 Million you'd want to have at least $10-$15 Million reserved just for that investment.

Well, American did announce the last few days of flights for the MD-80. However, there were several aviation enthusiast, including myself, who noticed the flight number change in American’s schedule several days before they actually announced it. When I saw a one off MD-80 flight from Dallas to Chicago and the flight number was AA80, which is usually a Dallas to London flight, I booked the flight on a hunch. It turned out the hunch was right, and the flight had actually sold out before American actually officially announced that it was the final flight. But, either way, American did release a press release announcing when the final flight was going to take place.

@@sla31 They have mountains of debt, over 20 billion dollars of it. The interest on these debts are over 7% somtimes 10%. They made 11.3b in gross profit and only netted a few hundred million. Their margins are razor thin (only .27% net margin), they're less than 50% solvent, some assets are secured by multiple debts, their stock has been slipping for months, it's a disaster over there. In fact they lost 33 million in q4 They wont fail, but they have to roll over hundred of millions of dollars of debt over the next 2 years and the bondholders aren't budging (so far)
