Your excitement about the fence legit closing in 7 acres comes through the screen, I am so happy for your success! You have done so much in the short time you have been there, I love that your are vlogging and sharing because it provides me with good, wholesome entertainment and inspiration. I came back to Guatemala after 3-1/2 yrs last Aug. I have a small grassed garden and a triangle dirt plot which is now fulling planted with some purchased and donated plants and flowers. There was also a potted palm tree which desperately needed planted in the ground. I swear it was watching Jason and Ben digging holes which inspired me to try to dig a 3ft deep hole. I borrowed a shovel and went to work. There is a very happy palm tree in the ground now. I should add that I am disabled with a spinal cord injury. I can still walk using 2 canes. That's why I am so excited about the tree in the ground. I went beyond my comfort zone. It took me 2 days to dig that hole, Getting the tree out of the planter was another challenge that I overcame. I don't know that I would have been this ambitious had I not been watching SowtheLand and other great homesteading channels for the past 6ish yrs

Need a rubber sleeve around all those chains on the fence line and/or a plastic rest guard that they lay upon to keep them off the wire. Looks great. Good job family.

Just one suggestion. Either cut the top of your wood posts at an angle, paint them, or put a protective cover on them. It will increase the life span of them if rain cant soak in

Either a cattle guard grate or a wide cement speed bump so dogs cannot dig and access.

I agree with the cement speed bump idea as well. But maybe a big puddle of water would form when the overground water flows that way. Not sure!?

Or, to promote youth entrepreneurship, maybe you could find a teenager who would love to run the string trimmer along the fence line every few weeks. That'd be like "double dipping" on your available time. S/He trims while you're doing something else.

For more years than I can remember Saturday morning was fence day. The joy of getting a side by side made that job easier than it ever was. I would take my 5 gallon bucket with all my fence tools and chain saw, put it in the side by side and drive the entire fenceline. Also any morning after a storm was fence check day.

Jason, minimize the washout with some sort of natural speed bumps that could be angled and divert the water towards the woods. Then you could put rocks under the gate without fear of it eventually washing away.

The easiest means of maintaining the fence line is to use old tire treads. Find old tires. Cut away the side walls. Cut across the tread. Lay the tread out flat, centered lengthwise under the fence wire. Fasten down with something like tent stakes. Done. Now, bird poop will never hit the ground. It will fall on the tire tread and bake in the sun rather than sprout the seeds that are always in bird poop. Also, if rain washes the seeds to the side of the tread, there is a little bit of space for the edge of a lawn mower blade or weed eater string. You will not have to get right up against the fence or under it, in order to maintain a neat, well manicured fence line.
