Procol's finest - I threw this video together for some good, deep contemplative value. WARNING: It starts out beautiful, then gets freaky weird.. surreal, as it approaches the frailty and odyssey that human experience sometimes is. Then it gets beautiful again!
This is clearly Rock's most glorious song, where Rock meets Sacred in the crowning piece that capped Shine On Brightly album - Procol Harum's flagship work in the late 60s. As I understand it, the song was based on a Bach piece. I do believe that's a PIC of the legendary Robin Trower on guitar during the interlude; although in this much later, live recording, that may have been Mick Grabham (?), (Procol's later guitarist) holding forth on the solo.
Lots of beautiful furniture was thrown in for the old Procol effect. Please don't be put off by the "Churchianity" or religious element, as that was certainly part of it all at the time... so very beautiful, enthralling to so many. As such, get what good out of it that you can. Hope it inspires. Hope you enjoy!

I heard this in early 68 on liberty while in the Navy. Bought it as soon as I saw it and listen to this atleast every other week. Turned 75 and it’s still a masterpiece to me. Saw PH in 72 and Booker in 2014. He still sounded great.

The " church element" makes it great. At conception God sets you on this world. At your death you may pass through the church to eternity. You better meet God halfway to be reconciled for your sins. The story behind the song is also about repentance from sin. The loud ending just celebrating deliverance from sin. Actually a very Christian song....

This is indeed the finale of the classic, magnificent piece called "In Held 'Twas In I," -- where the title sounds strange but is actually the first word of each lyric in the five parts of the suite. Matthew Fisher's contribution to this is obvious. While this live version is absolutely marvelous -- the original with Robin Trower is chillingly magnificent. Hearing this Finale after listening to the entire suite is a trip. The addition of a wonderous chorale of female voices on the "Shine On Brightly," album version could move someone to tears. Amazing that Procol Harum, like the Rolling Stones, Status Quo and in some respects The Who and The Kinks -- are still performing and recording today excellently. That's close to 50 years if not 50. I admire these guys so much.

Me too, Lennart - only I was 17. The first time I heard Grand Finale, it was aired on Jackson, MS' WZZQ-FM (now defunct), one of the first album oriented rock stations in the US. At the time, I was just becoming aware of Procol Harum and other groups that were incorporating classical music into rock. I thought I would explode - or melt - or in some other way transmutate. The word "ecstasy" doesn't touch happened to me - the sounds were almost too sublime to handle. I still cry when I hear it played.

Unless I am very much mistaken, that is the excellent Geoff Whitehorn on guitar; it certainly sounds like him. Furthermore, it sounds like Matthew Fisher on Hammond and, to the best of my knowledge, he never played with Mick, who usually played with Chris Copping on organ.

@@jduff59 absolutely spot on: I’ve seen Geoff with PH about 15 times: Robbie Trower three times and Mick Grabham four/five times. They were all stunning, but Mick is so underrated: his playing on Grande Hotel and Exotic Birds is excellent, especially “The Idol.” But Geoff is in a class of his own - great great player. I spent a lovely day with him at his home recently and bought a beautiful guitar. He’s such a laugh and there is nothing he cannot play! Best wishes Tom T

@@aliasreco Shalom to you too! I also play the organ in my church - or I did before the virus took over. :-( If we had a Hammond, I would deffo try for Matthew's sound! However, Jack's question was aimed at the original poster, Todd Fishkind, not me. I do have an in-full version but not this particular one. Sorry. Quite often, Procol performed the Finale as an encore, so it is possible that a fuller version of this one does not exist.

@@QHarefield Thanks! Keep going gor a Hammond. I left one behind in Marseille France, but it did not have an external Leslie. The one I have now is from a pentecostal church in Rotterdam who thought it could not be repaired. But with some soldering I got the pedal working again. Yes, the public is applauding, so the finale was an extra and not the total of In Held. I played once Fellow travellers in church. The text exists in the French hymn book. The people sang (they had to adapt to 4/4 instead of 3/4. My son showed my o was playing Procol. The rest of the church did not know. But more Procol sinds can be sang in church. Rewrite the text and its great. Shalom.
