I actually beat Ozma on my first try but it was PURE luck. After fighting it for several minutes, Ozma inflicted that one attack that gives everyone random status ailments and everyone else was dead except for Zidane but he was afflicted with confuse. Emerald Weapon in FF7, what a fight back then. I was at a friends house and we hatched plan after plan on how to defeat this thing within the time limit. One time, after many tries, we landed the final blow 5 seconds before the end. We yelled and cheered...until we realized the death animation was so long that we still drowned. We were so damn pissed. Many tries and different tactics later we finally did it and beat him within the time limit. What a great feeling! Sure, but almost everything in a videogame is hard if you are unprepared. Even normal bosses can beat you if you are underleveled/equipped/etc and not exploiting some broken mechanic. And while its true that back in the day when the internet was still a wee lad, and not owned by everyone, being prepared for such superbosses were virtually impossible without putting out money for a strategy guide. But nowadays only people who just don't WANT to be prepared are unprepared for superbosses. There's just no reason not to be, except as mentioned, people who are actively against it. And if being prepared makes them go from "Super boss" to "Super chore" then they really aren't THAT hard. Unless they have RNG involved, and if a game needs to rely on RNG to be challenging, then its a poorly designed fight that isn't there to make you feel rewarded, but frustrated.

However, the idea of the Weapon moniker wasn't technically introduced until FFVII, with the Ultima Weapon of FFVI being tied more to the fact it is the brother of the Ultima Weapon sword found in the game that was created during the War of the Magi.
@dragames6 жыл бұрын
You're both wrong. the weapon's introduction was actually FF5. It wasn't called by 'omega weapon' but its theme is always there. The bosses names are versions of 'the first// the last" and that's not changed other than adding the word weapon after it. Also, FF5 started the trend for it's story. Omega is so powerful a weapon (literally said in the game) that it had to be sealed in the rift. FF6 it was a weapon made in the war of the magi that it had to be sealed between the gate of the espers and humans. FF7 it had to be sealed to defend the planet in times of crisis. (okay, so not because it was so powerful). ff8 despite everything the scientists did to powerful creatures like Bahamut, it was Ultima Weapon that made them all flea and force them to lock the building down to prevent its escape. Ff9 didn't have it... ff10 finally deviated by just having it somehow being formed in the place that would essentially have kept it sealed and had no external influence.

Dark Valeflor, purely because of how much of a surprise it was. I had already played ffx but not the international version, on my second playthrough I was. I know it's not the hardest one, and honestly anything can be beaten with yojimbo in ffx, but imagine someone just going back on the first temple to get the bonus item on there, and then BOOM 99999 damage. I didn't even know it was possible before to have this number appear.

I found Omega Mk XII far harder than Yiazmat. Yiazmat takes a while (took me around 6 hours) but has no real nasty surprises you haven't seen before apart from if it manages to get restore off. Omega Mk XII has much less health but hits *very* hard. It can easily wipe you before you even get into melee range due to the sheer damage and range of it's attacks. Not to mention if you wipe to it you have to traverse a fairly annoying maze every time to get back to the fight. A few notes on Absolute Virtue. One thing which made the fight so awful was it's combining of 2 hour abilities. Notably Chainspell (remove cast time and recast time for your spells) + Manafont (All spell costs reduced to 0) which would then be followed up by rapid fire Meteor. AV was also reportedly designed to be unbeatable. Some devs have said since it was supposed to be symbolic "bad luck" for players (It used to only have a low chance of spawning when you killed the Jailer of Love) because you were slaying virtues to obtain sins. I find it kind of funny that when AV was taken down using an exploit the devs called foul but when Pandemonium Warden was first taken down using an exploit the devs allowed it and celebrated it's first defeat.
@Swordkiller556236 жыл бұрын
that just sounds like bad game design, a boss is meant to beatable like that, the fact that people using exploits were punished on such a broken boss fight is just wrong.

May not have known this, but there was more depth to the Absolute Virtue than mentioned here.He would do party limit bursts in a certain rotation. EG: Dragon 2hr summon pet (In this case like a dozen) Then Summoner 2hr (All pets limit burst) Then Ninja 2hr Mijin Gakura (All pets self destruct). While the abilities were 2 hr for a player, He would activate one part of a cycle every 30 seconds. And he was very capable of revisiting cycles. If he was seen using a 2hr a class with the same 2hr could quickly activate their own, and this would cause AVs 2hr to become locked for the rest of the fight. So a White Mage could prevent him from fully recovering HP after his first use if he or she activated his or hers in succession. Also fun trivia, when summoner got Alexander as an optional summon AV became much much easier. Giving you're party a minute long 90% damage reduction with ailment immunity is godsend. Your party has 0 concerns and you can just zerg the boss down.
@bobsmith-ov3kn6 жыл бұрын
Absolute Virtue was and always will be the hardest boss, during the time it was actually released. It was quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to beat. The FIRST and ONLY way it was ever defeated were by people who both GLITCHED IT and then brought it halfway across the zone and EXPLOITED A WALL. Also, the supposed tutorial video SE released was an absolute joke. Besides it being completely useless, it almost seemed like a giant troll, with the gear people were visibly wearing being typical noob fodder garbage nobody who actually plays the game would ever be wearing at that level, let alone the hardest fight in the game
@titotheninja6 жыл бұрын
IIRC they were all wearing the lvl 50-60 AF armor in the video. i think the trick to AV was to use the same 2hr move that it did? i really cant remember, its been years since i played in vanadiel
@Zikk0_o6 жыл бұрын
@@titotheninja Well it really didn't help due to the fact that they always showed videos of AF armored characters that were obviously super buffed. Much like the rest of the game, the developers artificially inflated the difficulty of activities in order to prolong the life of the game. I truly believe that they never really intended to have the players able to defeat AV when it was discovered. There are fond memories of FFXI, but there was a good deal of bs behind the scenes that rarely gets addressed.

Ozma is my favorite, he was very challeging without doing any of the sidequest or reading a guide. It tooke me about 100 tries when I was child and a very lucky run, but it was satisfying nonertheless. And yes the most difficul is Penance all the way, true. The difficulty is not only the fight itself but also because you need to grind a lot and complete all the sphere grid for every character and customize their weapons/armor which takes a LOT of prep time

Loved this video. I don't think I fought any of these bosses except Penance. I had to beat it for the trophy. There is a super boss in FF13 named Vercingetorix which does require a very specific strategy to beat and has 15,840,000 HP. One wrong move and it's game over and you have to restart. There is also some tough bosses in FF13 Lightning Returns. One in particular, Aeronite, if fought under certain conditions, it can reach 57,750,000 HP, which is the highest potential HP of any FF boss. Tho even if you don't have the conditions that makes him his strongest, he's still tough even on normal mode with 11,000,000 HP and hard mode with 38,500,000 HP. I don't even wanna talk about the final boss of the game if you play on NG+. He has multiple different stages with different HP bars on normal and hard. On hard mode, his HP triples and his attack changes and actually becomes more aggressive, using more powerful spells and takes a more specific strategy to take down then before. There was a few in FFX-2.. Trema and Angra Mainyu. Also some tough ones in FF15. Too many to name. Haha. Just a few to mention from my play experience. Great video. I was surprised you didn't mention FF7, but I suppose you mentioned those bosses before already. Haha.

Absolute Virtue and Pandmonium Warden from XI are unarguably the hardest bosses from any FF. Not only were they hard but it took an insane amount of time and effort to get all the items to make them spawn. It's my absolute favorite game of all time but, wow, that game was easily the most difficult game I've ever played. It took forever to level up and if you died you lost exp and you could actually level down, the best weapons (called relic, mythic, and empyrean weapons) took people YEARS to farm enough materials to make, and you just couldn't do much of anything without a group of people. I guess it's difficulty is what made it so fun though

Omega is super slow compared to your party so having a party consisting of characters who's limits can break the damage limit makes the fight honestly pretty easy as you doing around 100k damage a round and your atb fills up in less than a second with a high speed stat and he gets a turn for every 3 of yours. Emerald can be a bitch to deal with if you over load on materia and and his airetam cannon goes off, but you only need like 5 materia to beat him. Ruby might be the easiest super boss in the series as W summon hades + KotR will inflict paralysis and Hp absorbs basically assures youll stay at full health the entire fight

Before youtube and online strategies, Ruby WEAPON was a nightmare! I remember it being strictly a one on one fight because he whirlsanded two other party members and thank Aerith that the ones he exiled weren't the ones I had planned on using anyway. This creature was/is HARD. My strategy was the Ribbon accessory, a ton of x-potions, Turbo Ethers and Elixers. I slowed down his charge time with Time Materia and although I was tempted to do so, I didn't cast haste on Cloud because it would make the Wall disappear that much faster. I used a Mastered Summoned Materia (1 of 3 that you receive in exchange for the Earth Harp after defeating you know who) and W-Summon in order to take out the status inflicting tentacles and then just solely concentrated on Ruby. After that, I cast Knights of the Bound which was awesome because since it was part of the Master set, it didn't have a limit on how many times you could use it. As long as you had enough mp (500 total if you're doing the W-Summon thing) you were fine. With that in mind, I healed and restored lost mp when I had the chance and made damn sure that Wall was engaged and eventually, I beat him. I kept the Desert Rose as a souvenir in order to remind me that I had bested an optional foe that to this day, I still have a TON of respect for :)

Detail to point out: due to the presence of Cheer, Focus, Protect, etc, in FFX, the dark aeons, internally, are not limited by the damage cap. All I remember about Ozma was killing it very quickly and thinking "That's it?!" As with any RPG, I had grinded the hell out of everyone early in the game. Specifically at that one plateau with the difficult enemies, reachable from an alternate exit of a cave. Dragons and bird things which google says were "Grand Dragon" and "Garuda". While grinding I also made sure everyone learned every skill from every piece of equipment I found or bought, and kept that process going through the whole game. Killing all those dragons also maxed out one of Freya's abilities so it pretty much always did 9999 to everything. Quina's abilities were also very useful. I defeated Ozma in just a few turns with what seemed like no resistance. Some people like to struggle through RPGs at a normal or quick pace, always just a bit under-powered and under-equipped, using all that buff/debuff/status crap to beat harder enemies strategically. Too easily bored to put in the time, or to make things feel more "plausible" I guess? To hell with that, I like to invest some time early on so I can plow through enemies and focus on exploration and story without being interrupted too much by random encounters. Ozma was weird in that sense because usually even a maxed out party can't just stomp a super boss that easily. As a result, I would have swapped Emerald Weapon for Ozma in this list. Can't comment on the ones in FF10 and FF12 as I only played each for a very short time, or the ones in the online games as I'm not interested in playing those at all.

FF9's difficulty hinges on 2 things. The first is Status Effects, which can be negated with Abilities...but you have to know what you need to block. The second is instant death, since there is no way to negate that true death outside of RNG. God forbid you fight an enemy with Death lvl 5 and all ur characters just happen to be a level that ends in 5 or 0. Besides that the game is incredibly easy, especially with Auto-Regen + Concentrate Summons. Oh you knocked all my guys to 1 health? Well let me summon Ark while Auto-Regen heals us back up to full.

There is also Warmech in the Tower of Air in the first FF. Completely random you'll come across it and then only on the top floor just before the boss, Tiamat. It could use the ability Nuke/Nuclear, which can wipe the entire party in one shot.

In final fantasy 7 i just used HP>MP and full revive linked with final attack. You gotta kill my whole party 99 times cuz I have 9999 MP and my attacks still do 9999 damage.

Final Fantasy X: Dark Shiva. Who else went back to Macalania Temple after Mika dies and got kicked three times in the face with 99999 damage by Dark Shiva with the game over screen and your face in absolute wtf mode?
@DreadKyller5 жыл бұрын
Considering you need to beat Dark Shiva to even access Penance, plus the 1 boss per game in the franchise. Also most of the dark aeons are like that, and some of them even start the turn off with their overdrives dealing 9999 to the entire party before you get a turn. Dark shiva is hard but I wouldn't put it at the top of FFX.
@tommynguyen84565 жыл бұрын
@@DreadKyller you do realise that i'm referring to bosses that you DIDN'T DEFEAT THE FIRST TIME. Did you even read the video title? It said bosses you definitely didn't beat first time. Not the hardest boss in the game. Also i didn't lose against Penance because by then i had the common sense to max out my stats and collect the best items. Dark Shiva was totally unexpected so i'm not wrong, you just need to learn how to read between the lines

One of the best things about one of AV's exploits was that it was explicitly endorsed by the official strategy guide; it recommended getting enemies stuck in terrain for ranged jobs like BLM (black mage) and RNG (ranger). Doing this with AV would cause it to not use Benediction.

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy 12 TZA again (this is only my second playthrough since it got released, which sucks because my favorite Final Fantasy game, but my sister took her copy with her when she moved, and I just hadn't gotten around to picking it up again since then) and am planning on doing all the extra shit, including Yiazmat, which I knew was notoriously hard, butlistening to him describe the Yiazmat fight was like multiple consecutive punches to the gut, and when I heard him say "In The Zodiac Age, Yiazmat is much easier to defeat" I was so damn relieved.

The main is cast refect on Yiazmat then he heals your party then himself.

Being the FF8 nerd that I am I've spent several hours by just playing triple triad and getting cactorius below lvl 15 to get max stats + final weapons with Squall, Rinoa and Xell. Have at least Squall and Xell low HP and just special attack the shit out of everyone and enjoy your free wins. FFX was kinda the same tbh, just have the board modified and get max stats, Ultima Weapons and perfect shields, standard team is Tidus, Yuna and Auron and for Penance you should have Tidus, Rikku and Wakka. EDIT: Also also, you could also get Yuna to 255 luck and pay 1 gil for free wins (wich also depends a little bit on the answer you gave Yojimbo where your chance to get a zanmatou could either be near 100% or garbage).

Actually there a strategy with 2 meteor caster 1 healer and a fucking 2 shielded berserker. That the easier way to defeat it.
@vibes58053 жыл бұрын
Penance is definitely the hardest in ffx, but something is to be said for Dark Yojimbo - it comes in 5 battles, where if you try to leave or do anything like that then the sequence restarts. You also can't access a save point, if I remember right (correct me if I'm wrong). You have to be very prepared before you even get in there. Its Zanmato also does max damage to the whole party, and removes Auto-Life. The fight in general is just very, very difficult lol
@Loctorak Жыл бұрын
You are, indeed, incorrect about the save spheres during that sequence. Im playing through the remaster again and up to that bit now - you trigger two fights and then you come across a save sphere hanging out in the tunnels of the cave. You can freely save here, but I don't actually know if doing so resets the encounter triggers because I'm using the fights to farm dark matters 😅

I remember doing Yiazmat fight. 8 hours sitting there and when he got to so much health you needed to keep syphon as an active spell so he couldn't heal himself or he'd bring his health back to full. Imagine playing another 8 hours if you didn't get the syphon off and he healed himself up. I didn't play FF11 but I assume they didn't expect people to sit at their computer focused on the enemy that long. They probably considered it'd be an enemy people would micro manage with various groups taking fighting and disbanding while other people fought it ongoing and to gather everyone at the end to finish it off when it was close to dead. It doesn't seem like an enemy they meant for people to sit their for 24 hours to fight

I Think that Ruby weapon should have a place on this list :) The fact that he sucks away one of your characters permanently at the start of the fight if you don't have two of them dead going in to the fight is kind of a big problem :)

Absolute Virue wins by a lot because it would take at least 18 but more realisticly 36 people to focus super hard for a full day and to retry the fight it takes a week or so of effort by 18 people to pop it again and get another try. Simply being the tank or healer for stuff like is nasty enough but if its something that takes 3 tanks to coordinate and groups of people to stun moves and another group to heal and regain mp its on another level then again the fight was never possible without glitching your tank into a wall and bugging out the boss AI... maybe the original Pandemoium warden would apply it was doable but that was the actual fight that clocked at 18H and started the little outcry about FFXI. It would be cool if the devs would come out and give insight to Absoblute Virtue since no one actually knows what the mechanic was and now you can just faceroll it so no one really cares what the mechanics where. Maybe its all figured out by now tho didnt play ffxi for years now...Chances are AV was just a troll boss since it actually had no drop table until it was killed a few times and they patched it in.
@lightningshy52874 жыл бұрын
Yiazmat It’s actually made super easy if you begin the fight by using Wither until his rake damage becomes practically nothing. That combined with Expose Will make the fight a breeze aside from the death hit, so the only thing you’ll have to worry about then is how many phoenix downs you go through (which is guaranteed to be a lot.)
