Thomas Hudson Hi my friend good morning it’s okay along you have a very good drainage soil because when rain your desert rose needs to drainage very fast otherwise will root rot if you just planted please don’t disturb the plants wait until next spring 2020 to repotted also don’t forget about recovery after repotting you desert rose 6 to 7 weeks not direct sun not rain place you plant under roof and don’t water for the first week after that you need to keep the top of the soil moist about one inch of the top only every time dry about every five to six days after that you can place you desert rose out for for five to six hours of full sun and for the first time you need to water a until the water comes out of the bottom of the pot after that you need to water only when totally dry thank you Maria’s garden

wow thanks for sharing, i can't believe that Lowes cactus and palm soil was so thick and dark. I was going to buy that, but now so glad I didn't. I've never seen cactus and palm grow in such yuk. Your mix looked good, but i sometimes like to also add some finely crushed rock or sand depending on the type of plant. But just think about it, have you ever saw a palm tree or cactus growing in that wet sticky stuff? No they grow in sandy rocky dry soil found at the beach or in the desert! Lowes should be ashamed for selling that crap... well wonder you couldn't see thru the bag... they didn't want to let you know what you were buying. they probably figured if you took it home you would be to lazy to bring back to the store and just use it, then if your plant dies of root rot, you will just have to come back and buy a new plant... so its a win win for them. Thanks again for the great info. Your plants look great!

Hi Maria, I’ve been using miracle grow for years mixed with heavy amounts of perlite just so it would drain out after watering. Thanks for this video! I have a question.. for anybody that can answer it. I live in Southern California where it doesn’t rain much of the year.. The winter months when it rains my plants are inside. Would this mix that you’re showing us still be OK here in my climate? I water almost every other day in the summer months.. In the winter I water about once a month if that. Please let me know what you think.. thanks 🙏🏽

Hern LoC Hi my the formula the I recommend is 70% timberland pine bark mini nugget and 30 % of lightweight potting soil but Ike I said in my videos if you are in a state it’s very hot and humidity you need to increase the 30% soil for the mix to hold more water for example Arizona it’s very hot and dry in this case when mixed soil you need to increase more potting soil and less bark or perlite thank you Maria’s garden

@MariasgardenGarden5 жыл бұрын
Cindy CJ Hi my friend Cindy thank you you for the amazing question ok yes you can used 100% coco coir or coco chips anytime to do with coconut this product that’s amazing results the only reason I don’t recommend is because it’s a little pricey.i tester for about 9 months you don’t have idea the results , also you can used 50% and 25 % perlite 25% peat most the main thing when you mixed you soil for desert roses it’s very good drainage and using good quality mixture that has multiple nutrients for you plants thank you Maria’s garden

Maria we have to meet . I live in Englewood unfortunately I lost a lot of my babies to Ian . I have a lot that will flood from time to time.mostly due to a neighbor filling in my low area while I was in the hospital. I lost a lot plants that summer and I had to go and change the mix for all my pots. I dumped everything out and rinsed my pots. I had to use bleach on some. Now in my pots I put broken clay pots smashed in small pieces close the holes and add in river pebbles. I make sure I have at least an inch . My for all my pots has coco coir , cow manure and the same osmocote you use. I also add a good potting mixture with bark, sand and a little more rock right into the soil. You be thinking I am crazy or a bodybuilder to lift pots with stones and terra cotta broken up. So yo soy loco para me plantas. Anyway by mix all that I have a pot that drains like crazy and won’t wick up standing water for short periods . Thanks for thinking out side the box . We all need to sometimes add different items for fast drainage. Be it sand , pebbles broken terracotta ( have fun with your hammer) stick to your guns with the new mix I would only add manure and sand

lauri dempsey Hi my friend for the ants you can apply cinnamon in top of the soil or mix some Epsom salt unscented 3 tablespoons to a gallon of water and water you plants and they will go away thank you Marias Garden

I have been watching many, many of your videos. I know have three different recipes for soil for the desert rose. I think it would be helpful if you put a date on the videos so we know what videos are older, and what video is most current. I learn so much from you Maria, thank you.🤗

Hi Maria, First let me say thank you for your search for the perfect adenium soil. I was at my local Lowe's yesterday and looked for the Mini Pine Nuggets. They had some Timberline products, pine bark course and finer mulch as well as hardwood mulch which was also about the size of what we see in your video. I was unsure of which would be best so I came home and did a little research. Pine bark tends to acidify the soil while hardwood appears to be neutral (depending on its make up). It also seems to be advisable not to incorporate these products into the soil, especially the finer versions, because they rob nitrogen from the soil as they decompose. So two questions: Do adeniums prefer acidic, neutral or alkaline soils? Should we be concerned, given the small amount of soil in the mixture, that the conditioner is stealing nitrogen from the plants? To compensate for that, perhaps we should use an Osmocot formula a bit higher in nitrogen. My adeniums are in for the winter (NJ) and I will start to repot them in a month or two even though they were last repotted in March (I used the old formula involving cactus soil and it is hard!)

i dont think that a small amount or soil as we are using will be of any concern and i use a little surfer to troubled plants to help them get going which is a form of acid the soil from lowes is not only soil it also has peat moss and perlite and some type of mulch which is of light weight. the peat moss and perlite alone will get hard as a rock. good luck and keep in touch i will be into my replys soon i am having some computer problems and hope to have it fixed soon. thank you for your input marias garden
