That is serious progress, can't wait to hear it running again ready for more adventures. Don't forget to angle the pump for the diesel heater to avoid trapped air. It's also worth using/making a rubber mount to reduce noise from the pump. I used a couple off rubber exhaust mounts and it has made a Big difference.

Great progress guys, I was wondering how you were getting on with the install. Love the garage banter with your friends too, they're really funny!! You can get an exhaust muffler (silencer) for the heater that will make it quieter and also I'm not sure if you have one or not but where the fuel pump for the heater is fitted it should have a rubber damper to absorb shock and it'll also be quieter when you're trying to sleep. When it's running you get a steady tick, tick, tick from the pump and if it's not rubber mounted it sounds really loud. Can't wait to see it all up and running you've both done a great job
@SimonBraeck
@SimonBraeck 3 жыл бұрын
Pretty stoked about the effort put in last weekend, lots of things went down and we learned new stuff each day. Thank you for the tips regarding the heater, it didn't come with a muffler even though I have seen they are common for others. Will have a look into your suggestions, thanks!

Very inspiring! Brings back memories from the days I had a similar VW. Now a different one but a diesel heater setup like yours. That is why I suggest two mods. 1) the exhaust pipe should be bent downwards and it cannot have a horizontal part in the middle. Otherwise you end up in trouble with a frozen pipe. The heter will not start or it will stop working when you least expect it. Also a silencer in the exshaust pipe is something you will want to install after having used it once. 2) take the fresh air to the heater from outside the car. That will keep the car interior dry and helps in getting fresh air in. I have experienced a frozen exhaust pipe when it was -25C outside. It does not make one laugh.

He had plans to travel the U.S. and may now have to sell the Van because he really cannot afford the repair bills. The heater might even be too warm at times, they are really efficient and warms up the space really fast. I really wanna try out the new setup on a snowy, winter day, but I’m a bit worried about our bad tires and the salt on the roads. Not sure if it’s worth rust on the van. Hi there :) Sure, here is a link: amzn.to/2MrSKz6 The chinese ones are cheap and proven to be reliable as well, so we went for one of those ourselves. Thanks!

Nice to have you both back again - and obviously healthy. Did you mention the type of the new engine? Its a turbo diesel, right ? But how much power will it deliver? We're thinking about to change the engine in our 1984 VW T3 Joker from a 1,6 JX TD into a 1,9 TD, just to have a bit more punch in starting...
@SimonBraeck
@SimonBraeck 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks😊 It’s a 1.9 TDK (AAZ) engine. It’s rated at 75hp from factory, but we’re able to extract round about100hp from it with the changes we made. I’ll get back once I know what it’s like to drive, as we also had a JX engine before

The main difference between the 1.6 JX and the 1.9 AAZ, not to mention the 1.9 TDI is RELIABILTY. No more masses of cracked cylinder heads, plus the benefit of more torque.

Werkzeuge statt.

So jealous. I blew my westy's motor 6 months ago. Paid a mechanic everything I had for a new motor. He took over 5 months to get the van back to me and left the old blown motor in minus a few parts and a missing exhaust system. Took my money and ran. 🥺

It‘s for me hard to belive, that someone throws so much money to a T3. Just because it is a Cult or what is the reason? Can anyone tell me?? For that money you could buy a nice Toyota, prove me wrong. O.K. You got me I am not a Fan of VW, had too much trouble with them. Sorry But for an fire up, I am always ready 😉

No other van has such a character like the rear engined VW's. Knowing the competition quite well, they me be a bit more reliable during the first 5 years, but then this only advantage is lost.
