I have the same meter and you need to zero it out before measuring every wire, its not like the AC mode when you can just move it around and clamp onto a wire. In DC mode, even a small movement will affect the reading.

@@bikeradam "direct replacement" oh HELL no. A. Lithium will be DESTROYED if you charge it when at or below 0 degrees C. B. Lithium OUTPERFORMS SLA at high temperatures such that at 55 C it will have TWICE the cycle life of a SLA battery even just at ROOM TEMP. C. SLA should always be STORED at full charge. Lifepo4 should be stored at 40% charge. AND FINALLY: "Can I charge my lithium battery with a lead acid charger? This is a question we get asked every day by the general public. Lithium batteries are not like lead acid and not all battery chargers are the same. A 12v lithium LiFePO4 battery fully charged to 100% will hold voltage around 13.3-13.4v. Its lead acid cousin will be approx 12.6-12.7v. A lithium battery at 20% capacity will hold voltage around 13V, its lead acid cousin will be approx 11.8v at the same capacity. As you can see, we are playing with a very narrow window of voltage with lithium, less than 0.5V over 80% capacity. A Lithium LiFePO4 charger is a voltage-limiting device that has similarities to the lead acid system. The differences with Li-ion lie in a higher voltage per cell, tighter voltage tolerances and the absence of trickle or float charge at full charge. While lead acid offers some flexibility in terms of voltage cut off, manufacturers of LiFePO4 cells are very strict on the correct setting because Li-ion cannot accept overcharge. The so-called miracle charger that promises to prolong battery life and gain extra capacity with pulses and other gimmicks does not exist. LiFePO4 is a “clean” system and only takes what it can absorb. Lithium chargers are based on a CV/CC (constant voltage/constant current) charge algorithm. The charger limits the amount of current to a pre-set level until the battery reaches a pre-set voltage level. The current then reduces as the battery becomes fully charged. This system allows fast charging without the risk of over-charging and is suitable for Li-ion and other battery types." enerdrive.com.au/2017/11/29/can-i-charge-my-lithium-battery-with-a-lead-acid-charger/

I understand there would be nothing to balance the 12v batteries to each other with out adding an additional 48v BMS. I can see where a weaker pack would likely always be getting higher charge/discharge than the other 3. But the complete circuit should be safe to use since if the weak one drops first it will cut the whole pack off. I'm not really looking to do a lot of charging and discharging anyhow. So I think I could just keep an eye on the individual packs. So these might be a good choice for me as I wouldn't need to add cost and labor of additional BMS.

You would need 20 of these. 4 in series gives you the 48v. Then 5 sets of 4 in parallel will give 5.4kwh (48v * 22.5ah * 5 = 5400 wh)

Bought a bunch of these and about a 1/4 had the bms dead/tripped. Hopefully will recover them once I get my adjustable DC powersupply. Also really looking forward to getting a capacity test done to see how much life is left from them... I'm hoping ~90%+ but we will see. Will try to post updates.

All of the batteries were revived once a charging voltage was present. That is 12 of 12 bms's (though I assumed 60/60 since each pack has 5 independent bms's) on the batteries being revived after getting my hands on a charger. Still need to get a capacity test done, but not sure if I will get that info at any point since I don't have a good way of testing it on hand.

weird youtube couldnt find my comment to reply but i said something like 4a per module seemed low oh, it looked like there was 4s3p with 5 modules in parrallel... i miscounted, but yeah still 4a per module seems low, id recommend testing each module by itself with differant wires or just reading how much the modules are rated for and if each 1 of the 5 modules are 4s3pthat means each is 6a, so even more a 12v 6a battery does seem pretty good, even if it can only do 50w
@jehugarcia3 жыл бұрын
There are 15bms boards in the pack, 20A/15= 1.3A continuous. That’s what these do under test. You can increase the wiring but that won’t change the output of the bms
@any1alive3 жыл бұрын
i think you are miscalculating a bit. at 12:00 the pack is outputting 20a(21a) and there is 5 modules in that pack, meaning each 12v module is outputting 4a continuous. that is how i got that 50w(48w)continuous output, by doing the 12v x 4amps. but i would love to see inside one of the modules if there is actually 3bms boards in it, as i would guess 1 4s 4amp bms would be cheaper than 3 3s 1amp bms that makes me even question why the battery's are so low at like less than 1.5ah per 18650

What cells? I have 30 amp 18650s and I have like 2 amp 18650s. I just built a 4s15p bank with a 40 amp bms. It has a solar charger connected to it. Its only job is to power led lights in my shed. I have a 3s10p bank I built and it's strapped to my Traxxas Rustler VXL. You can do about anything you set your mind to. Just make sure your use case doesn't exceed the amperage ratings and you don't undercut your capacity. Make sure you test each cell at the bare minimum for voltage, capacity and IR and make sure you match them up. Also make sure you have a way to balance the pack

I get what you are saying about reinventing the wheel when it comes to taking apart a battery pack and building your own ....... BUT so often commercial battery packs are made at a cost for specifically one item and if your use case is too far from the original devices specs it is going to crap the bed one day and we all know that it is going to be a the least opportune time AND when you are trying to eek a little more out of it because things have already started going wrong. If you are diy-ing a system just pull it apart into the base components and build it right for your use case.
