That's a really nice piece of land. We have three small farms in SEMO consisting of row crop, forestry and wildlife. We used an M8540HDC with a Woods DS1260 10' and GL5740HSTC with a LP2672 to clear the brush. My brother built limb risers and cab protectors. We did have to rent a tracked skid steer and excavator for some dirt work and paid to have a 5 and 8 acre pond built. You will never run out of things to do on your property and that's a good thing. My productive years are at an end, but it's great to see our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoy the land.

I purchased a "Brush Tiger" that mounts on the front lift. It's a 3 ft brush cutter and I love it for around my pond, ditches and clearing near an old fence.

Suggestion... Tire Ject is a great product for tractor tires getting punctured as it seals itself up..... It has a 4.8 rating for atv tires

That pond would also come in handy in case of brush fire on property .This way the fire department has a place to draft waté from instead of bringing in tanker trucks .Or even latér on with your own sprayer connected to tractor until fire department arrives depending on how far away they are .

log it. Deer leases. Wildlife cost share programs. Wildlife gov't habitat programs. And now you can sell carbon credits for annual payments as well. We just applied for that and got an offer. Not sure if we are going to do it yet or not.

Just asking to learn: Why did you choose to cut in reverse?

Two reasons; One is that there are stobs/trees so instead of running them over going forward and risking tearing something off the underside of your tractor, when you go in reverse you eliminate that threat. 2 is that when you are mowing blind, you can creep in reverse and as you cut you can see where the ground is so you know your tires are on good ground and not about to go over a cliff, or in this case into the pond! There is no way I would take out all that mid Story brush in that field,. That’s a lot of cover and you mostly have Closed canopy woods.

Well if you don't keep them fields you will lose them. I will be making strategic clear cuts throughout and many new micro plots/fields and they will all come with new field edge. Also I will probably create new field barriers to separate the field areas which will create miles of new cover patches as well. So I do take it all into consideration. Thank you

Either when it is very gnarly with big stobs, or next to the pond shore. Those are the times I mow in reverse. If you go forward over that thick stuff you can easily yank a fuel line or hydraulic line or get sticks jammed in your underside that can cause other damage.

I know your mowing was a necessary evil, but personally, I do NOT brush hog my property until late July as I don't want to run over any fawns, turkey poults, or quail chicks. But this is a decision that I make for my farm. Everyone has their own priorities.

I usually do the exact same thing every year. Usually sets me back but I feel better about it. This mowing was only a few spots to prepare for new food plots, which will ultimately help all the wildlife. Thanks
