Oh, that just reminds me of a recurring dream that I have had. Moving into a house or being in my own place and suddenly finding a room I never saw before and then another room within it. It is magical. You have the coolest house! The back staircase is what they called the servants stairs, and it led to servants quarters. It must have fallen into disuse when there were no longer servants in la casa. You really tidied up. I can't wait to see the next stage. Could you do some historical fact finding on the house? That would be exciting! Gracias for sharing this.

Keep it up! My mom was Spanish and my dad was American. She tried to speak Spanish and English to my brother when he was little, so that he would be bilingual, but she gave up when English speakers couldn't understand him when he used Spanish words, so now none of the 4 of us kids speak Spanish. (Other than what we learned in school). I really wish she had kept at it, so we could have all been bilingual!

@@mar1na1993 Haha that's really funny! I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and 2 years in college, but that was years ago. I've forgotten most of it. I do understand why my mom gave up. My dad didn't speak Spanish at all. He met my mom in Germany when he was in the army. Her family moved from Spain to Germany when she was a little girl. So she and my dad spoke German while they were dating and my mom learned English after they got married and moved to America. Her family still lives in Spain/Germany, so we hardly ever saw them. I think it would have been different if she had family here. There would have been more people around us speaking Spanish and it would have been easier and more natural for us to learn.

It'd be cool if you fixed the broken plate with a kintsugi kit. It's an old Japanese method of fixing broken ceramic with enamel and gold. Its really lovely that the item becomes more beautiful because it's been broken. It would also serve as a thoughtful metaphor for your home renovation process.

I grown in a mid 19th century farm house, with lots of relatives and friends in the same kind of houses. Although it's in Quebec and not Nova Scotia, that extension is called summer kitchen, the main floor is a second kitchen (to keep the main house cooler in summer) and the second floor is an storage attic, usually served by a second set of stairs (but sometimes it just a wooden ladder). It's usually placed at the Northeast of the house, to stay cooled in summer and cut the Northeast winds for the main house in winter. I'm not sure if it's relevant to your house though, but I'm sharing just in case...

**Tell yer mom thank you for sharing her wonderful, creative daughter!** She can certainly be proud! I'm living vicariously through you! Sold my house 3 1/2yrs ago and hit the road in an rv fulltime. I say I miss the projects... but just realized in the past month I ripped out the old ( rv is only 6 yrs old 😁) furniture in my rv, actually replaced it with patio furniture- sounds weird but looks great! And this week I took out my kitchen faucet and got a new high neck one. That's after I removed the convection/ microwave oven, and had a great little old man put in a retractable shelf for me. Guess the home reno bug doesn't go away when you have a home on wheels!

I'm British so I'm not sure about Canadian history or how popular it was to have servants back in the day. But in England "secret/separate" rooms and staircases are the servants quarters. The staircase was a way to move about the house without being seen.

I like that those stairs give you options too. If you ever needed to rent space out as additional income, those stairs give you a "separate access" option to make that a temporary studio apt too in the future. What a fun room, the possibilities are endless! Its going to be a fantastic primary bedroom.

this is currently like my favourite series of videos of youtube, i love seeing how the house is coming together and i'm obsessed with the aesthetic of it. just please maybe consider wearing a mask while working in very dusty environments like the attic. even if there are no toxic materials involved the dust can still settle in your lungs and cause health problems. and especially with such an old house you may not know what is floating in the air, maybe there's mold too. wish you all the best! :)

It’s amazing what taking that stuff out and cleaning up did for the space, I was thinking that space would be perfect for a masters honestly, do you plan on adding more windows? Maybe can find some salvaged ones that can fit in the space to bring more light in, or a sky light, and some vintage or antique lights I would also have someone come look at the roof and floor to make sure it’s sound and find out how you can properly support the roof and if any walls can be taken down to open it up and add more support elsewhere, also look at the fireplace and sealing the roof Also excited for all the book books, I feel a little spa area would be really nice up there. We had a knee break stairwell like that from the kitchen up to the largest room in the house, which was said to be the servants quarters? Your space reminds me very much of our 1869 home in Cape May, NJ USA. We enjoyed making the entire third floor into a master bedroom. The one thing it lacked was light...we sourced some salvaged stained glass vernacular windows and installed them in the gable ends and it was absolutely fabulous! I hope to see you do something extraordinary like that to get more light in.

Oh my god I cannot wait to see what’s next! It would be so cool if you found more newspapers or something in the walls too!

the one nice thing about it being unfinished means you get to easily insulate it since I imagine you'll be doing some sort of dry walling anyway!

I've been saving this video all week for a treat at just the right moment, but unlike mashed potatoes, it is still perfectly warm and buttery.

Everytime I see a new house video from you I click it right away and then have to look what I am watching and this video was no different. I am so excited to see how this room evolves over time and see what you do with it!

So excited to see the transformation, this is the room I've wanted to see since your first tour. Also, older farmhouse, chickens, a creek, your home is giving very Anne of Green Gables vibes.

The extra little room in the attic would make a cool walk-in closet if that's going to be the master bedroom.

it's got the vibes of being a spare apartment type place. Either for a close friend or a family member.

I just bought my first house 3 months ago eight unseen and boy oh boy do the surprises keep on coming! I think that cleaning things up lightens a space energetically and visually. You’re doing a great job and a huge inspiration to me. Hugs to you and you mom and everyone here💕✨

Oh my gosh my aunt had us do the same thing when she came to visit!!! My dads house had cement floors and gave up a nice fragrance when it was sprinkled with water. Thank you Aunt Amelia.

As a second-generation immigrant the way you talk with your mom makes me feel so seen! The constant switching from English to your native language, the asking your mom how to say [English word] in [Native language] - it's exactly the same way I talk with my mom. Can't wait to see this room all cleaned and renovated!
