Bought the wife a 2019 Armada and it tows very well and stable, never needed a wdh , auto air ride levels it out. We pull a 7,500 lb. Forest River never had an issue.

Any single axle trailer will sway more than a double axle trailer. However, Airstreams are one of the best towing trailers bar none. It really sounds like Toyota needs to get busy tweaking that rear suspension to eliminate the sway. I see a recall coming on this.

My guess is ths WDH is setup wrong and its causing you to not habe enough tongue weight, which causes sway.

My guess is the sway is a combination of the short wheelbase and the chain-style weight distribution hitch. A trunnion bar-style WDH with friction pads would give more sway control. With that said, we tow a similar single axle 4,000 lbs. camper with a '21 Silverado and we don't use a WDH, just a height adjustable ball mount, and have no sway issues, but it has a much longer wheelbase and more front weight bias because it's a truck.

Yeah the sway issue is most likely due to a combination of things - IE what Tim was saying re the wheelbase of the Sequoia being quite a bit shorter than the Tundra, but I think the biggest difference will be the fact that the trailer being towed only had 1 axle (which appears to have a lot of overhang due to the location of the axle) - which makes a huge difference when towing. I have a strong feeling the results would have been better if the same trailer (with 2 axles located further back) would have been used...

Sway looks like a setup issue. Pause the video at 9:45, the trailer doesn't look leveled. Dropping the hitch height should help.

Judging from the video the hitch set up looks to be too high for the trailer, if they had dropped the tongue some the sway should be dampened. You want it to be level to some what negative for a comfortable towing experience.

Good honest review Tim and Jill. Did the Sequoia you towed with have LT or P metric tires? With that short of a wheel base LT tires should be a requirement if your going to tow alot. P metric will give you a softer ride but stability when towing will be compromised.

I don’t know the answer that, but I would guess no since these weren’t specifically set up to just tow. Also, one of the specialists on hand mentioned to me afterwards that the way the vehicle was hooked up could also have been the problem.

Good video, but you have to state the WD hitch brand and provide more specs for the viewers. The WDH you used, looks like Blue OX Sway Pro, is actually a very bad hitch for sway elimination. I use to use on my F150 and it was not effective in eliminating any sway. Equalizer, Curt, Husky, will do a far superior job! You are also towing a single axel trailer which is also sway happy. I wouldn't use chain WDH on a single axel trailer.

How does the elec. part of the power train work? How long does the electric last? Going up a long grade is there a power loss as the battery fades? Is the swaying worse with a heavier trailer? Do I go to TFL for that info?? You comments have made it real hard to buy the Sequoia. Sway with that lite of a trailer spells big trouble with a trailer closer to 8650#. It also needs a larger gas tank!😊

It is a mild hybrid which means there is no electric only mode. It works with the engine to produce more power. Swaying is more a by-product of wind and hitch setup. I don't think this hitch was setup as well as it could be.

Ive owned 5 Toyotas and for someone with my body stature it was always hard to get comfy. To reach the steering wheel comfortably my legs were cramed under the dash or to try to get my legs comfy i found myself reaching to much for the steering wheel

Look, obviously I am not the one behind the wheel... But I tow my 3500 # travel trailer with my Chevy Colorado, rated for 7,000#s, with that same weight distribution/sway control hitch, I have had basically ZERO sway issues. The Sequoia is rated for 9,000. Maybe my situation is different because my camper is lighter, but I am having a hard time seeing how this could be an issue. It's sitting on the same frame as the Tundra

@ 5:10 RE Qi charging, in my 2022 Tundra 1794, I have found that it’s reliability is very phone model and phone case dependent. My iPhone 13 pro max with a minimal Otterbox case drops the charge after a few seconds. Without a case, no issues, and it stays put. My older Samsung Note 10+ with similar case has no issues at all. My wife’s Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with bulky Otterbox case has no issues.

On the console cover. I have a 2022 limited too, the front slider is super useful. But the thing creaks every time I put my elbow on. The passenger side does not do it. Looking at it there is a rubber nub on a plastic thing that bends within another plastic thing. Seems odd. Tim I think you said yours makes noise in another video

I plan on installing Firestone airbags in the sequoia. I have them in my 4runner and they make a huge difference towing 4K pounds.

@@chrisd5383 I also have Firestone air on my E45O Powerstroke RV Chassis and getting a set for our 2021 4Runner 4x4 plus a aux transmission cooler. The 5sp works way to hard in our high altitude Colorado Rocky Mountains, 5sp not enough gear ratios and ones available are too tall, huge complaints here in Colorado. Toyota claims they are fixing this problem in the 2024 next generation 4Runner. If not we’re selling our 4Runner and getting GMC 3.0l diesel, 4x4 Yukon with factory rear air suspension, that also comes with 10sp transmission. A friend has one and towing his 4800 lbs boat he gets 19-25mpg with plenty of power & torque to spare. The Sequoia can’t match that. When Toyota was re-designing the Sequoia gasoline under TRUMP was $2.19 gal for 87 octane. In many places 87 octane is now over $8 gal. Yes Biden did that. Just saying!

What vehicle would you recommend for an airstream flying cloud 25 dry hitch weight 850 lbs, GVWR 7300 lbs. My first choice is 2023 sequoia, 2nd 2022 tundra and 3rd 3/4 diesel truck. It is only me and my wife plus a dog and we travel all over the US.

@ 8:03 RE console slide cover. Yes, it feels a bit cheap. I placed a cut to fit grippy shelf mat in there and the small cover behind it. This keeps stuff from slipping and sliding around especially on unpaved roads. As for the overall console cover, it creeks a bit. Put some short high density foam strips along the lid aligned with the edges of the console opening and problem solved. Shouldn’t have to do that on a 60k truck, but at least it was a simple fix.

Something about the towing makes me think it was setup incorrectly. With a single axle trailer improperly loaded, any vehicle is going to be unstable. Why Toyota would bungle that in a press event, I have no idea.

The Sequoia is much shorter then the Tundra, at 208" long v.s 233" Long on the Tundra. Not much longer then a big car so it is a lot more garagable but the flip side is the shorter wheelbase doesn't make for as much stability when towing.

Can a WDH make a single axle perform worse? I think I saw TFL’s test with the same airstream and theirs didn’t have a WDH setup. Doesn’t a WDH move the effective point at where the weight is felt by either truck or trailer frame? On a double axle trailer that makes sense to effectively remove weight from the inner axles and try to transfer that to the outer ones, but on a single axle can that take weight away from the trailer axle to the point it becomes a bit light feeling?

@@Pickuptrucktalk yeah my first inclination is to say no too, but if the distance from the trailer axle to the point (or points with the WDH) on the trailer weight is being transferred to the tow vehicle has been shortened, I’d think that could upset the balance of the trailer as it rides on the single pivot point (aka axle). I think that’s why WDH setups are rated for weight ranges as it’s possible to over tension a system of the trailer doesn’t have enough weight/length to counter it. I’m sure I’m wrong here as this would otherwise be common knowledge or something but just find it interesting you guys had the experience you did while others on the same trip only had good things to say.

@@Pickuptrucktalk if the WDH isnt setup right it can take too much weight off of the tongue amd cause alot of sway. Its the same effect as towing a car on a trailer havinf it too far back. I have experienced this personally amd it caused lots of sway. Stopped and moved the vehicle more forward and it went from scary sway to rock solid.

@@jenniferteal8565 if payload is your primary concern, then the least equipped Tundra or Sequoia. Looking at the SR5 trim. The more fancy you get, the less payload. This isn't just a Toyota thing though. All makes do the same thing. Once you load up any truck, the payload drops. For example, I owned a 21 F-150 PowerBoost XLT last year with like 1,400 lbs of payload. This was due to the hybrid battery system, power on board and pano sunroof eating up payload.

2 things. Wheelbase and that trailer with a single axle and high center of gravity has to be the easiest thing to have sway on you. Don’t believe me, let half the air out of the trailer tires and try again! 😂

Slight Correction: *Apple* wireless charging sucks. I use wireless charging exclusively on my Z Fold while running wireless Android Auto for hours at a time and I pull it off at 100% charge.

Wireless charging needs to disappear until some engineer makes a design that works. It sucks in my Tacoma. That weight distribution hitch doesn’t have sway control. That particular trailer has a 5000# GVWR which is right at the limit where most vehicles require weight distribution. A combo weight distribution sway control system may be better for towing that trailer. The other contributing factor is that is single axle trailer which typically isn’t as stable. GM reliability sucks. Toyota typically doesn’t suck.

Why do you drive with your knees all the way to the dashboard? Do you wanna split your knees open, even during minor head on collision? You are missing the point of driving safe car, by making it extremely unsafe. Phone charger is fine, your case makes it slippery. The only problem with Sequoia phone charger, they should double up on it, make one extra for passenger. It would cost next to nothing... Complaining of slippery phone charger reminds me of people missing on great houses because one of the rooms is painted wrong color 😂 2023 Sequoia is very stable while towing, you messed it up with computer settings. That ride was build around towing capacity. The only downside of this ride was never touched by you. It is battery under third row which takes soooooo much space. But guess what, that trunk still swallows massive amount of cargo. And mpg is amazing for 6200lbs. “There is no compromise, only trade in” Electric motor is build between combustion and transmission, great for towing.

The winner here is the review. The Yukon 3.0l diesel with rear independent air suspension is a much better setup for towing and overall better refinement. In time, Toyota will refine the suspension, interior quality and options along with a more powerful solid state hybrid battery and motor to increase MPG to a combined 28 mpg. Then Toyota they will have a winner with the Sequoia.

I appreciate the criticisms, but have you considered finding another co-host? Can't help but think that there might be another woman that doesn't have such a shrill, annoying, horrible, whiney voice and isn't so insecure?
