You are a true Canadian! I have notice crusing canals in Canada that fenders are left out all the time. The crew on my Michigan boat had to have all fenders stored as we cleared the lock gates and back down only as we entered the next lock or approached a dock. I have noticed several differences between Canadian and American boating practices over the years.

It is a good job you didn't take the Doubs at Verdun Sur La Doubs. It is navigable for only a few kilometres. About 3km from that junction there is a mill which I think is now closed, but when the Peniches went up there to load, they had to reverse from that junction as there is nowhere to turn. There is a nice little marina about halfway with an active Capitanerie. just a bit further up there is a road bridge which during WWII was the border between Occupied France and Vichi France. People who lived in the little commune of Les Bordes who worked in Verdun had to cross the border every day. Opposite the Capitanerie there is an island which is only accessible by a pedestrian bridge. Apparently in the 1970's the Manor house there was the scene of some really good (wild) parties. Enjoy your travels as we who are now housebound enjoy your videos.

Your channel is by far the most ROMANTIC sailing channel I have ever watched. I have watched for over a year and its just so amazing how you choose your words, your music, your settings and locations. I so look forward to your weekly productions becuase I know it will touch my Soul in a way that I relate to deeply. I long for the sea and foreign ports of call. Sailing should be romantic, not only the journey iteself, but the sea, the weather, the storms, wind, calm, the sunsets and sunrises but also the ports visited. I can't thank you all enough for sharing your amazing creativity, knowledge and love for Sailing and adventureing. If KZbin gave out awards you all would make a clean sweep. God Bless You Both and look forward to seeing out there one day.

Great acoustic music! It's always great to be transported across the world to see what is up with fellow sailors. We've been watching for awhile, and I noticed that Aladino left a message (on our channel) in Italian (?) but I didn't get a chance to show it to Robi, and then it disappeared! What's up? Those fish are wells catfish, their called som in some parts of Europe. They can grow to enormous sizes of over 500 pounds and have a bad reputation for aggression. They're hugely popular with game fishing and are more aggressive as the water warms. Thankfully you're finally free.

Are t sailboats wonderful? You can across the oceans and then motor up rivers, canals and narrow channels. If I were to design a boat from scratch most of the design would concentrate on a silent or silent like motor and a mast that can easily be stowed when not wanted. Also a very shallow draft and flat bottom would additional features would make doing what you are doing that much easier. It appears there is so much to explore, as you say, one could stay years not weeks seeking the soul of each lovely town along the waterways. I hope sonnet or later Aladino will give us a lesson how to connect with the lock master. My French is good enough to say we are a small sailboat 1 km to your East. But there may be a more formal way. Keep enjoying, stay safe and happy.

In Rhine, you could have up to 12 knots current to get you north, so good decision. As you went Saone against the heavy current. Anyway, I was considering to get my small boat from Sweden to Southern France this Spring which didn’t happened because getting stuck in lockdown and Denmark borders is still closed. But getting a 23 foot boat against Rhine with 4hp motor... could be possible but no-one recommended this. Anyway, happy that you are moving and hopefully get to North. Nederland is open and when you get over the Nord-Ost canal to Baltic sea...
