For the last 2 weeks, I been meticulously putting together a Wild Wily body, painting every nook and cranny, adding LED light buckets, 3d printing a filler for the Jerry can. And then the end of your video struck me, I'll _never drive it_ with all these mods! Enter the pre-painted body from Tamiya, which arrived before I finished the one I'm building. Now I'm staring at my finished chassis, ready-set body, and the pile of original body parts and direly wanting to maiden it... must... hold... off... lol

Really enjoyed learning about this one! Didn't realise Wild Willy 2 was so involving. It's a perfect RC for anyone into serious scale modeling. Dunno if I could try it though - I love painting hard bodied grasshoppers but this is a different kettle of rc fish altogether. Great that Charlie got a Cameo line.

Being a static model builder originally, I REALLY enjoyed building the body, detailing and weathering it. I chose to do an Australian ADF Camo scheme on Willy's overalls. DO makenthe effort on the roll bars. Oaint the in between parts the same as the body colour, and you can leave the foam black. And I do drive mine!

Looks great Gav.. story about a willys jeep. My brothers buddy had one with 48” tires on it and he did mud truck shows with it. He drove it across one of our local rivers and the game warden busted him not for crossing tge river with it but for not having a boat registration on it 😂.. that truck was in several magazines in the 80’s and he always said Tamiya copied his truck to make the wild Willy, but the Willy came out a few years before that truck was ever built lol

Amazing work Gavin. I enjoyed every second of the series. As a long time scale modeller, I am amazed to see your journey along the modelling path. You are getting very good! When I built my willy (desert colored with desert camo driver) I used brush on all those parts, so I can avoid masking as much as I can after the initial basecoat. The flat coat afterwards hides all the brush strokes. For the drivers face, explore the Contrast paint from Citadel from Wargammer 40k, (guilimann flesh), the flesh comes to life after that product. It shades the flesh naturally, creating shadows and highlights. Also I used black Tamiya panel liner for putting shadowy wash around those small details and in the recesses, these makes them pop. Panel liner flows very well around the details, and you use whitespirit for cleanup if needed. I see you allready found the technique of drybrushing. Simply great work, Gav!

The hardest part is driving it after you put all that time and effort into painting it up really nice! The body is a challenge but it is a fun one to paint up. I almost painted the NOS bottle red too thinking it was a fire extinguisher but it stands out more in the recommended blue as a nitrous bottle. Great work and it looks great!

NIce work. I have an OG Wild Willy and I even managed to get it relatively cheap. I took it for that 'one gentle run' and er....rolled it. So it now has a scuff on the rollbar. I cheated in the end and bought a EXB body to use if I want to run it again. Good vid as always.

Great video, thanks! 👉👌 For even fancier detailing I would highly recommend purchasing couple of Liquid Chrome paint pens by Molotow. They give rrrreally awesome chrome looks for scale model items, like bolts, knobs, rivets etc. I just painted a set of 1/10 wheel rims and even they look like "factory" chromed. Painted surfaces can take some reasonable mechanical wear and touching without getting dull. The Molotow's Chrome Spray (rattle can) is bit on the rubbish side thou... -Rami

As someone who also paints miniatures as well as RC stuff I am impressed by your over-the-top completely unnecessary masking technique to paint something that could more easily be painted with a brush.... A tip for getting rid of mould lines is to use the back of a hobby knife to scrape them off and then smooth it out with a file.

I had the original nearly 40 yrs ago! Gotta say, the WW2 motor placement is just NOT a good look. The original was a better location. The gigantic wheels and tires are also a miss in my opinion. I like the smaller tire/wheel combo with smaller sand rib treads. But, all-in-all, it's really cool that something like this is still around after a HALF CENTURY! Amazing!
