Finally Fished the VARIVAS ES2 Esterline

Just spooled my reel with varivas lemoni 0.4 love it. Sometimes after cast some line comes out from the spool. Ill wait a week

This is my favorite line for bluegill. Prefer the Lemoni color for line watching, but that's often out of stock. Incredibly sensitive. My biggest issue with the ES2 is hooking into fish larger than bluegill, which I seem to do fairly often on Old Hickory Lake. This is extremely fragile line, and I have to keep my drag so loose, it's near impossible to pull up a 4-5lb freshwater drum.

Youve talked about the Varivas line flying off the spool and birds-nesting. You ever try using line conditioners? Would that even help with settling fresh line?

i dont recommend conditioners. I have tried them. In the first 5 mins they feel good because they wet the line, but when they dry the line becomes worse. Also when u wet the line it becomes a magnet for dust. And that is the good conditioners. Some of them are just sh1t. You can buy silicone cleaner and spray on the line, it does the same thing. I have a feeling inside it is actually the same thing. I put it on my garage door belt, and makes it quieter and u thing its good. But before i put it my garage door belt was clean, maybe just some dust but clean. Once u spray it, it becomes sticky and collects dust like crazy and becomes black and nasty.

I did. They appear to be heavier and came out on the market long time ago so I am sure the blank will not be as sensitive as the new ones. There is zero point of buying them today. Maybe 5 years ago they were amazing piece of tackle, but not today

You need 8 lb. Maybe 7.5lb. even 10lb. And let them run. I catch them every year and used to be Mr 2lb. test but use 8 lb. Fluorocarbon mostly for tippet/leader. The last big one a 8lb. Rainbow I caught was on 10lb. Trilene big game that I caught on the bottom and saved. I was out of all tippet and was pleasantly surprised. Anyways I get them in the net.

Well not around any kind of brush or cover. But in big open water where u have time to play it , i think i can land it. Assuming i have a good leader that doesnt break from the fight. It is , of course, better suited for the small stocked trout.

@@ifishcatfish Thanks for the info, I Like catching big Rainbows on light gear. Mainly use 1/64 or 1/32 jig heads. I think I will order me this line and give it a try.

No...I have fished this line a long time. I have landed some 3 pound trout with it but I do not recommend it in a river or stream. Now that I am out in Arkansas fishing the Little Red River, the Ester line....which I love..is really no use to me in the river.

i RECOMMEND using leader with this line. But I rarely do : ). Too lazy : ) But its good to use like a 2 foot leader. Very short.

@@ifishcatfish so I went out to fish and it turned out to be the most windy day! I broke off and then the wind blew a bunch of that line of my reel, luckily I walked with an extra rod. It would be impossible to clean up that mess with all the wind blowing and the line being that thin.
