Love this car, anything a bit quirky and not run of the mill gets a big thumbs up in my book. Restoring rare cars is far more difficult as the panels aren't available. This is wonderful to watch, I can't wait to see it finished it's going to look fantastic.

Hello buddy, how you doing that rotisserie? Would it not be easier if you get some box section steel drill holes in it and use angle iron for the adjuster arms 🤔.

Has it influence on the worthy of the car when a restoration is made with self made parts instead of bought panels? I'm wondering

No reason not to be at least as strong as it was originally (which in a car of this antiquity & origin isn’t very much).

Wonderful repair there. The Cosmo is a favorite of all your projects, its because of its age and rarity in the classics world. Hope you give an update on its engine and drive train builds, that would be so,so interesting. Also the electrical work etc, etc. Cheers now!🐞

Why don't you ask Matt Armstrong? After all it is Matt Armstrong's. Matt Armstrong is the owner 😮If you do a search for Matt Armstrong's BMW you will find that the fabrication has been done over a year ago with powder coating done.

This thing is going to be a work of art when it’s finished! But please don’t paint it a boring colour like white, I know you probably will though..
@ToreDL8711 күн бұрын
Don't knock yourself down over that shrinkage, if your GF did that same panel without instruction, she'll make a darn fine panel and will likely still run into the same issue, it happens to all of us, it's called learning! Getting it spot on before welding is a key factor in minimizing shrinkage, I like trying to get it spot on even in areas nobody's ever gonna notice, it's good practice to doing it faster. If we all knew everything before we even started doing rust repair, you'd be out of a job.

I am not a Panelbeater so I don’t know the ins and outs of the work. I used to watch kindig motor shows and have watched a lot of car shows. It doesn’t seem like they do quality work. It’s just patching and patching. Is this structurally a good repair or are these videos more for entertainment and you would not repair cars like this if you were doing a top notch restoration? I still enjoy them and they are a good watch but I would not want my car repaired like this. Can some one with actual care to inform the uninformed ?
@GT380man10 күн бұрын
It’s understandable that people might think a car made extensively of welded steel panels isn’t as strong as originally. However, I don’t think that is true at all. Most of the external panels aren’t structurally very important. A rusty car is very much weaker. When I’ve seen repairs anywhere on a YCR car that are clearly a importance to structural strength or rigidity, their work is at least as strong as the original. Things like chassis rails, floor plans, inner wings, jacking points.
