Electric cars work best if you can charge at home. Like if you have a house and a garage, then you are good to go. Charging at home is alot cheaper although it will increase your electric bill but you will save on petrol costs. i do about 30kms a day round trip to work so this would potentially last me two weeks on a charge if i include weekend driving as well since electric cars are more economical around city driving. Even at an average of R3-4 per kilowatt hour charging at home and to charge the battery full from empty will be around R240-R330 assuming i will go roughly 500km on a charge. Thats a huge saving compared to my current car which i pay easily over R1000 per tank to get the same distance. Thats a no brainer to me. The cost of purchase would be high but if you could be looking at buying a brand new c-class/3 -series at R1mil you can definitely afford this. Its only long distance where you will be severely limited. But there is the BYD dolphin for a city run about and you can get a second car for family or longer distance at around R500k second hand or brand new if you look at the chinese. For people staying in a flat, it wouldnt make sense as you would be limited to public chargers and the network is steadily growing but thats limited to shopping malls and select dealerships. If fuel stations also started to install chargers as they do in other countries, that will definitely increase accessibility and make it viable, but i definitely dont need a electric charger attendant to insert a car charger for me.

Sorry but for its weight, and I have a Seal Performance with the 390kw dual motor, it hits 100kmh in 3.7-3.9 secs in decent conditions. 290kw wont reach that speed at over 2 tonnes. So not sure if you arent getting the full 390kw in SA or what. But it def has the 390kw 100%.

They're not quiet, SA's EV market is just slow. BYD is outselling Tesla globally, and if SA creates EV charging infrastructure BYD will 100% outsell Tesla in SA.

This is a really nice car for a decent amount with decent specs. Trouble is BYD has done an atrocious job of launching their brand here. Who kicks anything off in Durban?? And charging might be a problem, but if you can afford 20k a month on this thing you can afford a wallbox at home. I'd absolutely love the RWD model.

You only build a plant if you are selling a lot of cars.. Chinese cars are good for competition otherwise VW would be asking us to pay double their current price… the Vivo and Tiguan have been fairly priced because of cheaper Chinese alternatives. Chery is planning on building a plant in RSA because of sales

I mean even Golf R would be a great option at this price point. And I here you about the very limited charging infrastructure. But at this price, it beings the Germans into play and that is a simple decision for me in the end.
